The knife grazed his waist.
It wasn't the worst pain Lucian had ever felt, but the burning sensation was enough to keep his senses on edge, blood trickling in a persistent line beneath his shirt. He pressed his free hand against the wound, gritting his teeth as he sped through the city, the tires biting into the asphalt.
He had to lose the tail, he'd already spent the whole day with that black car lurking just at the edge of his rearview mirror. Now, with adrenaline pounding through his veins, he pushed his car harder weaving through traffic and side streets until, finally, the headlights behind him vanished.
Relief came when he rolled past the security gates of his mansion. He parked in his usual spot, shut off the engine, and sat for a moment, hand still pressed to his side. Blood was seeping through his fingers but the wound wasn't deep. It was just a warning.
