Chapter 30 - Dante and Wednesday

"I don't think we're finding Tyler or the killer here." Wednesday said as she took a seat, Dante sat next to her holding a box of popcorn and a soda.

"You know Wednesday, I already knew you knew a lot of things, but I see you traded all that knowledge to have almost zero when it comes to popular things." Dante said taking a seat.

"When you said you didn't know what Harry Potter was, I knew you had to see them, and lucky for you they're putting on the big screen the first one." Dante said as he watched the ads running, the place was empty, not like an empty of just 10 people or less, empty as only him and Wednesday.

Wednesday turned to see him and grabbed some popcorn, and before putting them in her mouth she corrected "Unlucky."

"Come on! You seem like you'd genuinely enjoy the movie, even when the movie jumps some facts of the books, you can later read them if you like it!" Dante said with a smile, because if Wednesday enjoyed casting spells like crazy, she may like HP.

After 2 hours 32 minutes

"I'd be a slytherin." Wednesday said as she watched the credits roll, this was one of the few times Dante saw her so focused, she even asked him questions mid-movie, questions that he answered, most were small things, for example she asked if Voldemort was a slytherin, even commented how spells were similar to the ones in real life.

"Well Wednesday, seems like you did like it." Dante said with a warm smile, one that made Wednesday look away.

"It was a good distraction." Wednesday said reluctantly, she couldn't bring herself to admit she liked something so childish.

"It only gets better, my favorite is the goblet of fire, but I still haven't reached that far in the books, I've only saw the movie." Dante said as his face showed a bit of the embarrassment he had about it, it was maybe one of the things he liked more about the world, entertainment.

"Why you stopped?" Wednesday asked.

"Because... uh..." Dante was going to answer right away, but then he looked down at Wednesday face, he stopped reading all night once he started hanging out more with the girl in front of him, he actually spent his nights sleeping, because after being with her, it was one of the few times he felt his brain actually could use some rest, rest that wasn't needed at all.

"The whole hyde thingy..." Dante answered, and for his confusion, Wednesday looked away with the hint of a smirk.

"Let's keep going." Wednesday said standing up, already walking towards the stairs.

She was grabbed by the wrist, Dante's hand holding her in place, making her look back to him.

"I want to go to the zoo." Dante said like a child holding their mother, his seriousness not matching at all with his request.

"The zoo?" Wednesday asked.

"Yes."

"It's stupid, there's nothing of interest in a pl-"

"I want to free them." Dante said, cutting Wednesday words.

That made the girl look at Dante's eyes, she realized something.

"You want me to go with you so I can enjoy the mayhem that would follow?" She said, it was more of a conformation than a question.

"It aligns, but I originally don't like the idea of keeping alive things captive, I've seen the animals in the zoo there is, they're wild, not domesticated." Dante said, in all fairness, he wouldn't kill anyone with a pet, afterall, they wouldn't survive outside, but even before, he has freed all the animals Robert had in his farm.

Surely most died, but the ones that didn't were outside, eating whatever they were able to find and adapting again to the world, at least that's what he expects.

"Like?" Wednesday asked, she didn't even know this small town had a zoo, and now she started to think hoe much Nevermore supports financially Jericho.

"Some reptiles, deer and even bears." Dante said, there were other animals there, but those were truly domesticated, adjusted to living in there, buy that wasn't a justification, he wouldn't let 10 people suffer if other 10 were fine in there.

Wednesday followed Dante, as soon as they hit an empty alley, he pulled from his backpack some coats.

"You have something to cover your face?" He asked while he only pulled a mask from his bag, but Wednesday wouldn't be Wednesday if she didn't have a way to cover her identity.

She took off her tuxedo and put it inside Dante's backpack, which was significantly bigger than hers, then she put on the big black coat that coveted her up, and finally she covered her face with a Mexican themed bandana.

Dante looked at her, a little laugh that he quickly tried to shut using his mouth, then he put on his mask.

"Seriously, what's that?" Wednesday said, and now she didn't know if she should feel more offended, a black mask with a web pattern, it didn't look bad at all, even the white eyes made them perfect aesthetically speaking, but that didn't mean she shouldn't feel annoyed by his laugh.

"You don't know Spider-man?" Dante yelled, this time the levels of ignorance Wednesday showcased surpassed everything he has ever seen.

"I don't, and it's a ridiculous name." Wednesday said.

"Oh yeah sure..., Viper de la muerte?" Dante said the name she used for her self-insert novel, and that immediately made Wednesday eyes go wide.

"How do you..." She said, a useless knife already touching Dante's throat.

"Let's say Pugsley is really good to conceal information against torture, but he's really bad against a good ice cream..." Dante said with a smile under his mask, watching Wednesday rile up so easily by his teasing.

"What did he say?" Wednesday asked, the last time she showed Pugsley something about her story she was 12.

"Only something like a half forgotten sinopsis... but it was enough to make me realize how similar she's to you..." Dante said, his smile didn't falter, but his voice did while the knife was somehow perfectly aligned to cut his circulation but not straight up cut.

Wednesday pulled aside looking down, her mind wondering about her book, she couldn't let him read about it and the character named Damian, one that was clever and smart, with a potential as a detective, and affinity with Viper, like Watson for Sherlock Holmes.

"Sadly you stopped showing him after that..."

"Hey I'm trying to save you!" Dante yelled while the bear bit him on the back, and with it's whole body trying to push him down.

"I told you, you disturbed him." Wednesday said as her hand swiftly lockpicked the simple lock they had, the metal rods sliding with a horrid sound, a reflection of the lack of care the zoo had for the animals.

She jumped over to the roof of the cage from outside, and Dante swiftly pushed the bear out with his strength.

The bear looked at him confused, it didn't even know what to do against a creature that didn't even flinch against it's jaw or paws.

Dante only pointed at the broken wall of the resort, the view afar from it being the forest which was literally next to the zoo.

"Well those are all..." Dante said watching the bear rush towards freedom, surely it was just a primal instinct and not one that saw the line between locked and free, but the fact that it still instantly seeked the trees protection was enough.

"How long until the guards wake up?" Dante asked, raising his head towards Wednesday who was still sitting on the cage.

"Approximately 1 hour, or dead if you injected more than I told you." Wednesday said coldly.

"Wait I don't want to kill them!" Dante said, already rushing towards where they left most of the workers, they entered when the zoo was closed, so it was mostly guards and some other people cleaning around the areas where the people come.

Wednesday saw Dante dissappear in the distance, just to come back 1 minute later with annoyance written on his face.

"They're all fine!" He said, pointing an accusing finger to Wednesday.

"I said if you didn't inject more, but I gave you enough to knock them out in general, without needing to weight and meassure them to get an ideal quantity." Wednesday said, and even for her normally dry cynic humor, she liked seeing Dante almost rip the mask off his face from annoyance.

Dante calmed down and only nodded a few times, now he only felt relieve, because he never actually wanted to hurt people, even when they worked here, surely a guard didn't have anything to do with the locking up of the animals, it actually has to do with the people allowing that.

"Let's grab a bite..." Dante said as he started walking away, Wednesday dropped down and walked until she was to his side, never liking being behind people.

"There's a fancy restaurant nearby, they had this really good roadkill..." Dante said with a joking tone, thinking about the earlier fighting club he showed Pugsley, it also had some some of bar with food included.

"They do?" Wednesday asked, her interest rising without any masking as roadkill was actually one of her favorites dishes.

"Huh?" Dante looked at her, stunned for a moment.

"Yeah... regular Wednesday..." He signed to himself, how did he end up captivated by her was still a mistery even to him, except for Enid of course.
