Morning light slipped into the cave the way a secret slips through a closed door — quiet, patient, impossible to keep out forever.
Kael opened his eyes slowly.
For one brief, merciful second, he forgot everything.
Then the smell of wet earth returned. The forest returned. The weight of everything that had happened returned with it, settling back onto his shoulders like a coat he hadn't asked to wear.
The primitive world. The system. The boy named Aristo whose skin he now lived inside.
A faint blue panel flickered into being above him, patient and glowing in the dim cave light.
[ Beginner Package Unlocked ]
Open?
Yes — No
He didn't hesitate.
"Yes."
The interface shimmered, folding and reshaping itself into new text.
[ Reward Acquired: Insider Ability ]
His brow furrowed. "Explain."
[ Insider Ability: Allows Host to view the talents and growth potential of any individual within visual range. ]
Kael's heartbeat quickened.
Talent detection. In a world like this — a world of tribes and territory and men who ruled by strength alone — that wasn't just a survival tool.
That was a weapon built for someone who intended to rule.
Before the thought could fully settle, something tore through the stillness of the forest outside.
A scream. High-pitched. Panicked. Female.
Kael was already moving.
The Rescue
Not far from the cave, a young tribal girl stumbled through the undergrowth, branches whipping at her arms, terror written across every line of her body.
Behind her, the trees exploded outward as something massive burst through them.
A wild boar. Thick hide, scarred and mud-caked. Tusks curved like drawn blades. Its weight shook the ground with every stride, closing the distance between itself and the girl with terrifying speed.
A notification flared across Kael's vision.
[ Emergency Quest Triggered ]
Save the target.
Reward: +10 Development Points
He snatched a fallen branch off the ground without breaking stride. He didn't run straight at the boar — that would get him killed. Instead he cut in at an angle, timing his approach against the beast's momentum.
At the last possible second, he threw himself into the girl and rolled them both sideways.
The boar thundered past, missing them by inches, close enough that Kael felt the heat of its breath. It skidded to a halt, snorting violently, and spun to face them again.
Kael pushed the girl behind him. "Stay down."
The boar charged a second time.
He didn't panic. He watched it come, counting the strides, waiting.
Three steps away, he shifted left and swung the branch into its eye with everything he had.
The beast shrieked, staggering. He struck again. And again — never wasting a blow, aiming only for the places where pain would actually matter. After several precise hits, the boar's legs buckled beneath it, and it collapsed into the dirt, unmoving.
Silence rushed back in to fill the space the violence had left behind.

Kael exhaled slowly, lowering the branch.
The girl stared up at him, wide-eyed, chest still heaving. "Th— thank you…"
She looked about seventeen — strong posture, sharp reflexes, the kind of stillness that came from a life spent alert to danger.
"My name is Angelika."
The moment she said it, Kael's vision flickered.
[ Scanning Target… ]
Name: Angelika
Talent: Leadership (Rare)
Growth Potential: High
Trait: Natural Authority
Description: Individuals under her command show increased morale and obedience.
Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.
Rare. On his very first day in this world.
The system pulsed once, as if agreeing with his thoughts.
[ Recommendation: Recruit as Core Member. ]
Interesting, he thought. Very interesting.
The Spirit Wolf Tribe
Angelika led him through the trees, glancing back at him every few steps like she still couldn't quite believe he was real.
"Our village is called the Spirit Wolf Tribe," she said.
Kael listened without interrupting.
"Spirit Wolf?" he asked eventually.
She nodded. "Ten years ago, a mysterious master brought wolf warriors here. Our chief allowed them to settle among us. Since then… we coexist."
Coexist.
The word sat wrong in Kael's mind the moment he heard it — too soft, too hopeful for whatever it was actually describing.
When they reached the settlement, he understood exactly why.
These weren't ordinary wolves. They stood upright on massive humanoid frames, wolf-headed and broad-shouldered, their clawed hands clearly built for tearing through more than just meat.
This wasn't coexistence. This was two very different kinds of predator sharing the same fire out of necessity, not trust.
A tall man approached them, his expression easing slightly at the sight of his daughter alive and walking.
"Father," Angelika said, bowing her head.
"I am Chief Gor," the man said, turning to Kael with a measured nod. "You saved my daughter. You are welcome here."
Kael studied the village carefully as they walked deeper in — human villagers on one side, Spirit Wolves on the other. Separate fires. Separate conversations. Glances that never quite lingered long enough to be called trust.
This alliance, he understood, was not built to last.
The Feast
That night, the tribe celebrated Angelika's survival. Meat roasted over open flame, drums beat out a steady rhythm, laughter rose into the dark.
Kael did not relax.
He watched the wolves instead of the fire.
They weren't celebrating. They were measuring — counting numbers, calculating distances, watching the humans the way hunters watch a herd they haven't decided to attack yet.
One wolf stood taller than the rest, his shoulders broader, his eyes colder than anything else in the firelight. When Kael quietly activated Insider Ability and turned it toward him, the system panel flickered violently before settling.
Name: Mogra
Title: Spirit Wolf Overlord
Threat Level: Extremely High
Recommendation: Avoid Direct Conflict
So that's the alpha, Kael thought.
Their eyes met across the fire. Mogra didn't smile. He simply watched — the same way he watched everything else that might one day belong to him.
Betrayal
Later, once the fires had burned low, Kael and Angelika walked toward the river at the edge of the village. The water ran clear and fast — valuable, strategic, the kind of resource a settlement could be built around.
Then the night split open.
BOOM.
Flames erupted behind them, lighting the treeline orange.
Angelika froze mid-step. "Fire?!"
They ran back together, and the closer they got, the worse it became. Screams tore through the smoke. The Spirit Wolves were no longer hiding their fangs — huts burned, villagers fell, and the alliance that had held for ten years came apart in a matter of minutes.
Chief Gor lay in the dirt near the center of the chaos, his abdomen torn open, blood soaking into the earth beneath him.
Angelika dropped to her knees beside him. "F-Father—"
Her whole body shook.
Kael's jaw tightened, but he wasn't shocked. Not really. Where there was an imbalance of strength, betrayal was never a matter of if. Only when.
Mogra stepped out of the smoke, unhurried, his cold eyes finding Angelika immediately.
"Capture the girl."
Of course. The leadership talent. He wanted her too.
Kael grabbed Angelika's wrist before she could process the order. "Run."
The Fall
They sprinted through the burning village and into the treeline beyond it, branches tearing at their skin, howls rising behind them like a tide they couldn't outrun.
The forest gave way to a cliff edge before either of them saw it coming.
There was no time to stop.
The ground crumbled beneath their feet, and then there was nothing beneath them at all — just air, and far below, a river churning white in the moonlight.
They fell together.
SPLASH.
Cold water swallowed them whole, and the current dragged them down into the dark before either of them could scream.
On the cliff above, Mogra came to a stop at the edge and looked down at the water for a long moment.
Then he turned and walked away.
As far as he was concerned, they were already dead.
Survival
Kael woke on a riverbank, coughing water out of lungs that felt scraped raw. Angelika lay sprawled across him, unconscious, her skin pale in the early light.
A panel flickered into view.
[ Angelika Condition: Critical ]
He forced himself upright, scanning the bank until he spotted a plant glowing faintly at the water's edge.
[ Medicinal Herb Detected ]
He crushed it between his palms without a second thought, pressed the paste against the worst of her wounds, and held pressure until the bleeding slowed. Ten minutes stretched into what felt like an hour before her breathing finally steadied.
Kael sat back, hunger gnawing at him, exhaustion pulling at every muscle.
But alive. They were both, somehow, still alive.
Upgrade
Current Points: 20
He opened the ability panel, studying the options laid out before him.
Crafting — Agility — Growth — Endurance
Each: 2 points
He didn't rush the decision. Survival came first. Everything else — ambition, revenge, a village built from nothing — could wait until he was still breathing long enough to pursue it.
He invested:
+4 Crafting
+3 Endurance
+3 Growth
Warmth spread through him as the points settled in — his mind sharper, his body steadier, like something in him had finally been tightened into place.
The First True Hunt
This time, when hunger drove him back into the forest, he didn't charge blindly.
He crafted a stone-tipped spear. Dug a shallow pit trap and disguised it with brush. Checked the wind before he moved. When the boar came, he provoked it deliberately, drawing it toward the trap instead of simply running from it, and stepped aside at exactly the right moment to let gravity do what strength alone couldn't.
The beast fell. He finished it cleanly, without wasted movement.
Fire sparked. Meat roasted over it, filling the air with a smell that finally felt like progress instead of survival.
Points climbed steadily upward.
This wasn't luck anymore. This was efficiency.
A New Beginning
Angelika woke slowly, her eyes hollow at first — the particular emptiness of someone whose mind hadn't caught up to what her body already knew. Then the grief arrived all at once, and she curled inward under the weight of it.
Kael steadied her with a hand on her shoulder.
"Your tribe is gone," he said quietly. No point softening it. "But you're not."
She looked up at him, broken open in a way that made her seem younger than seventeen. "But what do we do now?"
Kael turned toward the plains stretching out beyond the treeline — mountains in the distance, a river cutting through open land, space enough to build something that had never existed before.
The system stirred.
[ Location Suitable for Settlement. ]
A faint smile touched his lips. "Then we build."
He stepped forward into the grass. "From today, this place will be the foundation of a new tribe."
He turned back to her. "You still have your leadership talent."
Her eyes widened. "How do you—"
"Trust me." He extended his hand toward her. "We won't just survive."
"We'll rise."
Wind swept across the open plains, carrying the smell of grass and distant water. Far off, massive Titan Cows grazed in slow, peaceful herds — resources, agriculture, the beginnings of something that could actually last.
The system pulsed, bright and certain.

Kael stared out at the empty land stretching in every direction, and let out a slow breath.
"In this wilderness…" He narrowed his eyes at the horizon. "…where exactly am I supposed to find ten people?"
The plains gave no answer.
But somewhere out there, unseen and unhurried, the future was already moving toward him.
