Chapter 253
Demon Army
"Alright… let's do it."
Arthur moved calmly through the gate, his feet stepping onto ground covered in thick ice. The air around him was bitterly cold, cold enough that his breath turned into white vapor, while snowflakes fell with unnatural density, as if the entire place existed within an eternal winter.
A vast forest stretched out before him. Its trees were strange in shape, bearing fruits he had never seen before. Among the frozen trunks, he noticed unfamiliar animals, creatures that belonged to no ecosystem he knew.
"How can something like this exist?"
Arthur muttered as he looked around with faint interest, before his expression suddenly changed.
A killing intent surged toward him with tremendous force.
It was neither a terrifying aura capable of crushing the soul nor a weak one that could simply be ignored… it was familiar. An aura Arthur had known for a very long time.
The aura of an enemy who knew killing well.
"Hmm…"
His eyes narrowed.
"A red gate, that's certain… but why do I feel like I've entered the lair of demons?"
He had barely finished speaking when a flaming spear shot out from within the ice, tearing through the air with a piercing sound as it headed straight for his head.
"Fast… but—"
Arthur smiled calmly and easily dodged the spear, as though he had moved on the instinct of someone who had done so countless times before.
But in the next moment, as the spear passed by his body, its head suddenly twisted as if it were a living creature, then shot toward him once again.
Between shock and the unexpected, there was one second.
And in a devastating battle, that single second was enough to bring about the death of one side.
Before Arthur could regain his position, the spear pierced through his shoulder with tremendous force, passing from front to back and leaving a hole the size of a fist.
"Damn my arrogance…"
Arthur suppressed his pain and quickly raised his hand, pressing down on the points around the wound where the blood was flowing, immediately stopping the bleeding.
Meanwhile, the spear turned again in the air and charged toward his head once more.
"That won't happen again."
Arthur leaped powerfully toward the spear, and a beautiful sword appeared in his hands.
It was a sword he had purchased after Cain's update was complete.
Its blade was dark red, while its elegant black hilt was wrapped with a dark cloth thread.
Its name… Soul Slayer.
"High Heaven Severance!"
Arthur shouted and swung his sword with absolute might.
But before the blade could collide with the spear, the latter suddenly stopped in midair, then… exploded.
It had not been a single spear.
There were six.
The spear split into six independent spears, all of them charging toward Arthur's head and body at the same time.
"No… you're not doing that."
Arthur smiled calmly. At that moment, the magical energy began to recede, gradually fading until the sword returned to its normal state.
Arthur had stopped his sword strike altogether.
The six spears charged forward with tremendous force, while Arthur planted his feet firmly into the ground and lowered his body, completely anchoring himself in place.
The spears followed him as though they could sense his very presence.
Arthur stood firmly, holding Soul Slayer.
"Alright."
He calmly raised his sword in front of his face, then closed his eyes without the slightest trace of tension.
One of the spears approached his foot, and it was only three inches away from piercing it…
At the critical moment, Soul Slayer rose on its own and split the spear in two.
'I have a feeling that whoever is using this attack is trying to delay me… but why?'
Arthur severed the third spear without opening his eyes.
'Are they preparing for a direct attack?'
The fourth spear split apart.
'Or are they trying to buy time to escape?'
The fifth spear was cleaved apart.
'Or are they…'
The final spear shattered.
At the same instant, Arthur slammed his feet into the ground and shot forward.
There…
He could feel something emerging.
Something dangerous.
Something very dangerous.
Something he did not want to confront.
It was not because he feared its strength…
But because, for the first time in his life, Arthur felt disgust seeping into his soul and very being from an enemy that had not yet appeared.
"Damn…"
Arthur suddenly stopped.
Before his eyes was an egg.
A beautiful white egg covered with black and red lines, no smaller than a fully grown lion.
It was placed atop a massive rock in the middle of an abandoned village.
Around it… were monsters.
There were no fewer than six hundred, perhaps even more.
Some of them were moving toward the egg, lifting it and placing it inside a gigantic cauldron nearly two hundred meters in size.
While the others stood… between Arthur and that egg.
"Demons…"
That was the only description Arthur found suitable for them.
Human-like bodies covered in blood-red skin.
Dark, silky hair and sharp, furious blue eyes.
Long fangs and muscular bodies proportioned with terrifying perfection.
Sharp horns atop their heads, and dark wings behind their backs.
{Aaah… kill… the enemy!}
One of them shouted while carrying a flaming spear, then charged toward Arthur with tremendous force.
"Damn…"
Arthur narrowed his eyes.
"Come out… and annihilate every last one of them!"
At his command, his army of spiders and ants flooded the area, charging forward with tremendous force.
But…
Only a few seconds later, Arthur realized the grave mistake he had made.
A fatal mistake in every sense of the word.
Because of the threat, the disgust, and the surprise, he had failed to measure the strength of his enemies.
He had ordered his soldiers to attack immediately.
His concern over the first group of demons that had taken the egg had also completely blinded him.
And the result?
Complete annihilation.
His army fell one after another, meeting a shameful end at the hands of the demons.
"Damn… I'm such an idiot."
Arthur sighed calmly as he looked at his soldiers, who had returned to their eternal sleep… this time, with no return.
"It seems I have no choice."
Arthur raised Soul Slayer in one hand, while a beautiful red dagger appeared in the other.
"For the sake of my bastard soldiers… I'll kill every last one of you."
Arthur shot forward like an arrow.
In a fraction of a second, he appeared behind the demon who had shouted earlier and smoothly severed its head with terrifying ease.
He moved toward the next.
Sword… then dagger.
A strike… then a flash.
The scene was beyond belief.
Arthur's strength had completely surpassed the logic of hunters.
A total destruction of every rule.
In only fifteen minutes…
He had killed ninety demons.
And as time passed, it became easier.
It turned out that the strange spear that had wounded him earlier was not an easy ability to use;
the demons needed nearly ten seconds of concentration to launch it.
And Arthur…
did not give them even a moment to catch their breath.
He charged forward without stopping,
eliminating everyone who stood in his way.
