Ayaan had come home to spend his summer vacation with only one goal in mind — to live peacefully, quietly, and without any disturbance. For him, holidays meant comfort, familiar walls, and restful days.
But Mahira and Jihan had very different plans. Being older and fond of traveling, they decided that this vacation deserved adventure. They planned a seven-day trip to a hill station and insisted that their younger siblings, Ayaan and Aarshi, join them.
Aarshi and Ayaan clearly refused at first. They both loved the idea of spending their holidays at home, wrapped in calmness rather than suitcases and schedules. However, after much persuasion and emotional convincing, they finally agreed to go along.
The Airport & The Flight
All four of them met directly at the airport when it was time to board their flight. Even at that moment, their contrasting personalities were visible.
Jihan and Mahira were excited, energetic, and eager for the journey.
Aarshi and Ayaan, on the other hand, were composed and slightly reluctant, as though they had been dragged away from their comfort zone.
Their seats were arranged in pairs:
Mahira was seated with Ayaan.
Jihan was seated with Aarshi.
Soon after settling in, Aarshi turned to her brother Jihan and said softly,
"Bhai, you should go sit near your friend."
Jihan looked at her curiously. "Why do you think that? Will you be comfortable here?"
Aarshi replied confidently, "It won't make any difference to me whether you're here or not."
Jihan laughed. "I'm not changing my seat."
The flight soon took off. After some time, Ayaan walked toward Jihan and said innocently,
"Momo is calling you to sit beside her."
Jihan was surprised. "Really? Are you sure you're not lying?"
"Why would I lie?" Ayaan replied with a straight face.
Then he added, "If you don't believe me, send Aarshi to ask her."
Aarshi immediately stood up. "Fine, Bhai, I'll go and check."
But before she could move further, Jihan said, "No, it's okay. I'll go myself."
The moment Jihan left, Ayaan quietly slipped into his seat.
When Jihan reached Mahira's seat, he realized the truth — Ayaan had lied, and Aarshi was clearly involved. Instead of reacting angrily, he smiled wisely and chose to sit beside Mahira anyway.
Back in their row, Aarshi looked at Ayaan and whispered, "Finally, Bhai left."
Ayaan grinned. "So you wanted that too?"
She nodded playfully. "They would make a good couple."
Ayaan chuckled and said, "Intelligent people don't have a love life."
Aarshi burst into laughter at his remark.
Ayaan then offered her a chocolate. She accepted it with a small smile. The rest of the flight passed quietly. Both of them fell asleep and remained asleep until the plane touched the ground.
When they finally opened their eyes, rubbing them lazily, Jihan and Mahira were standing right in front of them, staring.
"Wow," Mahira said sarcastically. "You two work in perfect partnership."
Aarshi quickly defended herself. "You both look better together. If you had sat with us, you would've kept talking and never let us sleep."
Jihan raised an eyebrow. "Is sleep really that precious to you two?"
Aarshi replied, "More precious than you."
Ayaan added calmly, "Same to you."
Jihan and Mahira exchanged knowing glances. They had already understood that these two were going to act exactly like this throughout the trip.
The Hotel
After reaching the hill station, they checked into their hotel.
Room arrangements were simple:
Jihan and Ayaan shared one room with two single beds for comfort.
Aarshi and Mahira shared another room with one large bed.
As soon as they arrived, Mahira and Jihan collapsed into deep sleep, exhausted from travel.
Meanwhile, Aarshi and Ayaan felt completely refreshed — after all, they had slept through most of the flight.
Once the others were asleep, Aarshi and Ayaan quietly stepped out of their rooms to explore the hotel together. They wandered through corridors, admired the decor, and even explored the surrounding area.
Discoveries & Similarities
While walking, Aarshi suddenly realized something.
"We don't even have each other's numbers," she said. "What if we get lost?"
"Don't you have a phone?" Ayaan asked.
"No."
Ayaan sighed in disappointment. "Same."
"But last time you had one," Aarshi reminded him.
"That wasn't mine," he explained. "It was my mom's old phone. I only have a Mac tablet."
Aarshi blinked in surprise. "Same."
"You weren't given a phone either?" he asked.
"I live in a hostel," she said. "Phones aren't allowed there. Only tablets — and only for special rank holders."
Ayaan looked impressed. "Those are the same rules in my school."
As they talked further, they discovered something surprising — they studied in the same school, just in different branches. Even more shocking, they were in the same grade.
Aarshi teased him, "Are you a topper? Is that why you got a tablet?"
Ayaan replied in a slightly arrogant tone, "Hmm."
She folded her arms. "What's there to be proud of? I'm also a topper — first rank holder."
Ayaan smirked. "Same."
Soon, a light academic rivalry began between them, filled with playful arguments.
After a moment of silence, Ayaan asked, "Where's your tablet?"
"It broke," she replied casually.
"You got it only a few months ago, and it's already broken?"
She shrugged. "What do you expect? Should I frame it like a diamond? It broke — so what?"
Ayaan shook his head but didn't argue further.
The Night
They continued exploring together until late evening and eventually returned to their rooms.
Later at night:
Ayaan used his mother's old phone to call his friends.
Aarshi borrowed her brother's spare phone to talk to hers.
The conversations stretched long into the night until exhaustion finally caught up with them.
And so, on their very first day at the hill station, while Mahira and Jihan dreamed peacefully in deep sleep, Aarshi and Ayaan — the two reluctant travelers, the two toppers, the two quiet masterminds — drifted into sleep after sharing secrets, laughter, rivalry, and an unexpected friendship that neither of them had planned.
Little did they know, this trip would test their patience, their partnership, and perhaps even their carefully guarded hearts.
