Chapter 301 - Confused

"I never imagined our school had such a big-hearted student. Please convey my gratitude to him; every cent of this money will be transparently posted on the School Forum. I'll also have the administration draft a formal thank-you letter to Jiang Cheng, and this generous donation will be publicly announced." Chen Jin said earnestly.

Wang Congcong nodded in satisfaction. "Then thank you, Principal Chen."

"Haha, it's I who should thank you two."

After the two exchanged a few more words, Wang Congcong left the principal's office.

Chen Jin quickly had someone pull Jiang Cheng's file.

He even summoned the Dean of Student Affairs and Jiang Cheng's Class Advisor.

When the dean heard the news, he was shocked and broke into a cold sweat.

Because he knew exactly who Jiang Cheng was.

Yesterday the Student-Affairs Office had received an anonymous tip from the Student Union claiming that the Freshman Jiang Cheng had broken rules, used back-door connections, skipped Military Training, and more.

Plenty of photos were attached.

As dean, he naturally had to deal with such a letter.

The office had planned to act today.

Luckily he'd stalled all morning; otherwise he might have ruined everything.

The dean silently added the Student Union to his blacklist.

That morning he'd also seen black posts about Jiang Cheng flooding the School Forum.

After thinking it over, he decided to tell Chen Jin.

Chen Jin frowned slightly, then said, "Slander posts are forbidden. The school will publicly commend Jiang Cheng; if we don't promote this, how will we attract sponsors— ahem, donations? These people might succeed and later give back to their alma mater."

Ten million yuan is no small sum; Jiang Cheng is only a Freshman yet could donate that much.

With that kind of backing, his future is limitless.

"Yes, yes, I understand. Once the website is fixed we'll delete the posts and put Jiang Cheng's donation on the homepage."

Chen Jin nodded approvingly. "Get the site repaired ASAP."

"Rest assured, we've found an expert. He says our site was hit by a Trojan; the IDs point to students here. Many Accounts were hijacked—course materials, test scores, transcripts, all inaccessible. Some teachers hadn't backed anything up…"

Chen Jin erupted: "Our own students? Found who yet? Attacking the school like this is insane—find them and expel them immediately!"

The dean agreed: "Exactly. Some students are cancers, bent on destruction."

Neither knew the Trojan IDs were the Security Team's handiwork.

The super-computer whiz had routed the trail straight to Zhang Wei and Hao Liang's Accounts.

All evidence said they'd attacked the school site.

Chen Jin told Jiang Cheng's Class Advisor: "This student is outstanding—transferred the donation in minutes. Treasure such talent. I hear he's already running a start-up. Be flexible: award Credits in other ways and fully support his entrepreneurship. He may become a tycoon who brings glory to our school."

"…Understood, Principal. I'll speak with the teachers."

Once the Security Team stopped, the website returned to normal.

But the Accounts that had flamed Jiang Cheng were permanently blacklisted.

Seeing Jiang Cheng's donation headline the homepage,

those who'd joined the online outrage felt their cheeks burn.

The school announced the funds would renovate Teaching Buildings and upgrade dorms—benefits every student enjoys.

Why trash someone who does so much good?

In the end they'd still reap the conveniences Jiang Cheng provided.

Some even regretted bashing him online.

They'd lost their Accounts, had to retake exams, and now faced the news in utter shame, wishing they could vanish.

The school publicly named Zhang Wei and Hao Liang as the culprits and ordered them to withdraw immediately.

Meanwhile Jiang Cheng slacked off toward the cafeteria.

Along the way people kept giving him thumbs-ups.

"Bro, well done!"

"Junior, you're amazing—love ya!"

"Thanks, man."

Basking in praise, Jiang Cheng looked utterly stupefied.

The Smear Posts had only buzzed for a few hours,

and only a handful followed the forum constantly.

Besides, the students praising him now were seniors he barely knew, leaving him baffled.

After buying a drink he checked his phone.

The Security Team sent him their final report.

Reading the school notice, he replied with two words.

"Noted."

He then opened Lin Qingxue's messages.

She still didn't know and kept comforting him, telling him to ignore the haters.

Jiang Cheng chuckled and typed: "Why worry? Got good news for you."

He screenshotted the notice and sent it to her.

Lin Qingxue's mouth fell open at the image.

In one afternoon the school had expelled Zhang Wei and Hao Liang?

She replied: "Was it because of the posts?"

"Yes and no—they attacked the school site and hijacked Accounts."

Qingxue knew about the hack; luckily her Account was untouched.

She sensed it wasn't simple, but glad it was over.

"Good. Have you eaten? I'm working extra hours today because I was late."

"Still working??"

"Mhm, I'm used to it. If I don't, I'll get bored and pester you every day—aren't you scared?"
