Far north of the peaceful towns of the south, the land slowly changed.
The green plains and open roads gradually gave way to rugged hills and thick forests. The air became colder, and the mountains on the horizon stood tall like silent giants watching over the land. This region belonged to the powerful dwarven kingdom of Stormvale Kingdom.
Unlike many human cities, Stormvale was not built across open land.
It was carved into the mountains themselves. Massive stone halls, underground forges, and towering gates shaped the kingdom. Smoke from countless furnaces rose into the sky every day, and the sound of hammers striking metal could often be heard even from far away. Dwarves were known across the continent for two things. Their unmatched craftsmanship and their unbreakable pride.
For centuries, Stormvale had maintained its independence. While trade existed between kingdoms, the dwarves rarely involved themselves in the political struggles of other nations.
But recently, things had begun to change. The human kingdom of Rivergate had decided to strengthen diplomatic relations with its neighbors.
And so, a small delegation had been sent north.
Their destination Stormvale...
The road leading toward the mountains was long and uneven. Several figures traveled along the path, their cloaks moving gently with the cold wind.
At the front walked a young woman with long silver hair tied behind her shoulders, Selva , her sharp eyes scanned the road ahead calmly as she walked.
Behind her followed two companions.
One was a tall young man with broad shoulders and short dark hair.
Darien carried a heavy sword strapped across his back and walked with the relaxed confidence of someone used to battle.
The third member of the group, Torin, was slightly shorter but much more energetic. Unlike Darien, Torin carried two smaller blades at his waist and constantly looked around with curiosity.
Followed by Rivergate Kingdom's diplomatic minister and a few knights.
They had already been traveling for several days.
Torin stretched his arms as they walked,
"Another mountain road," he muttered "My legs are starting to hate this journey"
Darien chuckled
"You're complaining already? We haven't even reached Stormvale yet..."
Torin sighed
"That's exactly my point."
Selva continued walking without slowing down.
"The sooner we reach the kingdom, the sooner we can rest"
Torin rubbed his neck
"Easy for you to say…"
Despite his complaints, he continued walking, others followed .
The road grew steeper as they moved closer to the mountains.
Large trees surrounded the path, their branches forming shadows across the ground. For a while, the three travelers walked in silence, escorted by the knights.
Then Darien suddenly stopped
"Wait…!"
Selva turned slightly
"What is it?"
Darien pointed toward the forest
"Something moved"
Torin immediately placed a hand near one of his blades.
Knights formed a circle around them.
The bushes near the road rustled.
A low growl echoed through the trees.
Three wolf like creatures slowly stepped out onto the road. Their fur was dark gray, and their eyes glowed faintly in the dim forest light.
Torin sighed
"Of course"
"Traveling monsters," Darien muttered.
The beasts snarled and lowered their bodies, preparing to attack.
Selva calmly stepped aside
"You two handle it…"
Torin grinned
"Gladly"
The first monster lunged forward. Torin moved instantly.
His blade flashed once through the air.
The creature collapsed before it even reached him.
Darien stepped forward as the second beast attacked. With a single powerful swing of his sword, he struck the monster aside and finished it with another strike. The third creature hesitated for a moment before charging.
But Selva moved this time, her sword left its sheath with a quiet metallic sound. One precise motion. The beast fell before it could even reach her.
Silence returned to the forest.
Knights and the minister spoke nothing but were amazed by the strength of the heroes.
Torin wiped his blade
"Well," he said casually, "that was quick"
Darien nodded
"Too easy….."
Selva sheathed her weapon.
"They were just wandering monsters"
Torin looked around
"Still, the forest feels a bit more active than usual."
Darien shrugged
"Maybe the northern regions are changing "
Selva did not comment. But she quietly noted the same thing. After a short rest, the group continued their journey.
By the afternoon, the road had climbed much higher into the mountains.
The air had grown noticeably colder.
Snow covered parts of the rocky path, and the trees slowly disappeared as the terrain became steeper.
Torin whistled softly
"Now this looks more like dwarven territory."
Massive stone formations surrounded them. Ancient carvings were visible on some of the rocks, marking old dwarven trade routes that had existed for centuries.
Darien looked ahead
"Stormvale should be close…."
The Minister spoke,"Stormvale should be about an hour away…."
They continued walking for another hour.
Then, finally the mountains opened before them.
Torin stopped walking
"…Whoa."
In the distance, an enormous structure stood against the mountain cliffs.
A massive stone gate...
The entrance to Stormvale...
The gate itself was carved directly into the mountain wall, easily several times taller than any human building.
Huge iron doors stood open, guarded by heavily armored dwarven soldiers.
Above the entrance, glowing runes were etched into the stone.
Even from far away, the kingdom looked powerful.
Ancient...
Unshakable....
Torin crossed his arms
"Now that… is impressive"
Darien nodded slowly
"Dwarves don't build small things…."
Selva looked at the massive gate quietly. Their long journey had finally reached its destination. The dwarven guards noticed the approaching travelers. One of them stepped forward as the group reached the entrance.
"State your purpose "
Selva calmly stepped ahead.
"We come as representatives of Rivergate," she said clearly.
"We seek entry to Stormvale for diplomatic discussions."
The Minister came forward and handed them an official letter from the king of Rivergate .
The guard studied them for a moment. Then he nodded slowly.
"Follow the road inside"
The massive gates stood open.
And beyond them the great dwarven kingdom awaited.
Selva stepped forward first.
Darien, Torin and others followed behind her. As the travelers entered Stormvale, the towering stone walls closed around them like the heart of a living mountain.
Their mission has finally begun but a new adventure awaits...!!!
