Chapter 32 - Skills

The first thing he needed to figure out was whether he wanted to put his skill points into his existing skills or get some new skills. "Skills."

Skills

Martial arts (basic) 77%

Weapon training (Intermediate)+ 0%

Parkour (Intermediate) 10%

Cooking (basic) 26%

Monster Identification (basic) 25%

Life sense (basic) 10%

Summon Truck-Kun (Basic) 1%

Identify Item (basic) 10%.

As much as he wanted new skills, it made more sense to advance some of the existing skills to an intermediate level. First, he needed to figure out how much of an increase one skill point gave him. "Assign one skill point to martial arts." His skill points dropped to 39, and his martial arts increased to 87%. So, one skill point gave him 10%. "Assign one more skill point to martial arts." That put his martial arts at 97%. He would let the last 3% happen naturally. He didn't want to waste a point on 3%.

As he looked at his other skills, he wondered if the intermediate would receive a different increase than the basic. "Add one skill point to weapon training."

[Which sub skill do you wish to add a skill point to?]

"I don't wish to add to one of the sub skills. I want to add the skill point to the weapon training."

[When skills with sub skills reach intermediate, you cannot directly add skill points to the main skill. Increases to the main skill are only accomplished through increasing sub skills. Which sub skill do you wish to add a skill point to?]

Zane rubbed his head. "Never mind, add the skill point to parkour."

The skill point was added, and the percentage went from 10% to 15%. So, there was a difference between score points added to basic and intermediate. At the intermediate, a single skill point only gave 5%.

The real question now was how he wanted to distribute his 37 remaining skill points. 17 skill points would increase parkour to the next level. However, he didn't have enough to increase weapon training to the next level. He had to max out four different sub skills to do that. As he looked at the sub skills, he realized that the identify and life sense skills would give him an advantage in many ways. If he maxed out those three skills, he'd be left with only 10 Skill points left. After a moment of thought, he added all the skill points to those 3. The advantages they offered were too great, and he would continue to get skill points as he leveled up. Plus, I've been told that skill points could be rewarded for completing quests.

The first of the skills that he upgraded was monster identification. Before, it would only give him the health and name of the monster. Now, it gave him the name, level, health, one strength, and one weakness. This would give him an idea of estimated strength in how he could defeat it.

The next skill was life sense. Upgrading this one made it so he could detect life at greater distances. Also, it made it so that he could see any being on his map within 100 feet.

The last skill was identified item. This had allowed him to see the name of any magic item. Now it gave him basic information of its enchantment. He looked down at the ring that he was wearing and cast identify on it.

[Ring of strength: +2 to strength stat.]

Zane nodded, even though he knew this information already. It was just nice to get confirmation. He had 10 skill points left and decided to level up the summon truck Coon. " Put 10 skill points into summon truck-kun."

[Unable to add skill points to summon truck-kun.]

"What?" Zane said, confused. "System why am I unable to add skill points to this skill."

[This skill relates directly to the God Gzi'om. Only skills related to the God Érimón and those native to yourself can be upgraded with skill points.]

Zane was confused. It made sense why the truck-kun skill wasn't upgradable, but he had put points into parkour. Was this skill native to him? He thought that Gzi'om had given it to him. "System, is parkour a skill of my own magic?"

[The parkour skill originated within the host. It is not connected to any God. It manifested as a result of the magic contained within the host. Therefore, it can be upgraded using skill points obtained on this world.]

Zane laughed. Somehow, he had created his own skill so that he could parkour wherever he wanted to. That was a pretty awesome use of his magic. Too bad it was unconscious, which meant if he wanted to do it again, he'd have to get to know his magic a lot better than he did.

"Add remaining points to parkour." Zane was curious about what abilities would unlock if he continued to upgrade his parkour. It had already manifested some unexpected abilities. What more would show up if he upgraded it more. Now that he had used up all of his skill points, he looked at his skills.

Skills

Martial arts (basic) 97%

Weapon training (Intermediate)+ 0%

Parkour (Intermediate) 60%

Cooking (basic) 26%

Monster Identification (Intermediate) 0%

Life sense (Intermediate) 0%

Summon Truck-Kun (Basic) 1%

Identify Item (Intermediate) 0%

None of the skills that he had upgraded to intermediate had a plus by them. That meant that they were easier to upgrade, but they did not possess as much utility. Overall, he was happy with what he saw. Of course, he didn't know what was in the future. He was upgrading without any sort of guide. Only his own memories from the few games he played and stories he knew helped him in these times.

Zane looked over at Gwen, who was cleaning herself. He wondered what other sort of companions he would gain as they went into this world. He did wish he had some of his friends from back home, but he quickly pushed away that thought. That wasn't happening, so he had to open himself to new relationships. Who knows, maybe he would meet someone worth caring about
