Chapter 31 - Blade Dancer

[Choice acknowledged. Integrating class blade dancer into system... Applying new trait… accessing new skill unlocks… blocking all restricted skills… adjusting level up procedures… integration complete. Congratulations! You are now a blade dancer.]

"Whoa whoa whoa, what is this about restricted skills?"

[Blade Dancers are light and nimble on their feet. They do not wear medium or heavy armor. They do not use large or two-handed weapons. As such, the skill associated with those items has been removed from your skill list to avoid clutter. Alternatively, you have been given access to new skills that will enhance your ability to fight as a blade dancer.]

"I guess that makes sense. I do appreciate having less to look at in the skills menu. I was a little overwhelmed when I looked at possible skills to level up. What is the new trait that I received?"

[It is called dance of blades. Would you like a description?]

"Dance of blades," Zane muttered. "Isn't that a little on the nose? Whatever, yes, I would like the description of this trait."

[Dance of Blades: The strength of Blade Dancers lies in their ability to avoid damage and controlling the flow of the battle. To accomplish this, they must be able to move faster they anyone else and not run out of stamina. +5 to Dex. +5 to Con. Dex and Con gains are doubled with every level.]

"That's quite a boost. If I had normal stats, that would be quite an advantage. Even with my stats, it's nice to have. Is this retroactive with my stat increases?"

[Yes.]

"Really? Open my stats."

Level: 8

Exp: 0/12800

Strength: 51

Dexterity: 115

Intelligence: 54

Wisdom: 32

Constitution: 106

Health: 1260/1260

Mana: 565/565

Skill Points: 40

Zane whistled as he looked at his stats. His health had already been good, but now he has almost 20% more. When he first came to this world, His stats were already much higher than. A normal level one would be. Now that he was level eight, his stats had jumped compared to what a normal level eight would have gained. His dexterity and constitution were insane. Now that he had his class, he was gaining 4 times as many stats as a normal person from this world would with every level.

He wondered how his stats compared to Gwen's. He looked over at her. "Gwen, do you have any idea what your stats are?"

Gwen looked at him, tilting her head. "What do you mean by stats?"

"I mean, how fast are you? How much health do you have? How strong you are?"

"You mean those numbers that your system assigns?"

Zane nodded.

"No, I don't need to see any numbers to know that I am strong."

Zane sighed. "I'm trying to figure out how my stats compare to other beings on this world. It's hard when I can't see somebody else's and have to go on what the gods told me."

"Well, I'm not a good comparison. I'm stronger than anybody else on this world, though I have been limited in order to not scare off our enemies. If I was here at my full power, you would never find this energy that you're supposed to."

"Maybe we could spar and I could see where we are compared to each other."

Gwen shrugged. "If you want to get humiliated by me, I would be happy to show you how far above you I am."

Zane and Gwen went to the center of the room and squared off against each other. Zane made the first move, dashing in at her with his shield bash. Gwen dodged easily and took a swipe at his back, which he avoided by leaping forward. He turned and darted back at her, slashing with his sword. She batted the sword away, calmly deflecting or dodging the swings as he attempted to hit her. After a few moments, she lashed out with her claws and hooked them on his shield. She yanked toward herself, pulling Zane along. As he flew towards her, she dug her other paw into his gut, not having her claws extended so that he wouldn't get hurt.

He bent over as he coughed, and she promptly pushed his face into the floor and then sat on his back. "You are as predictable as that Ratman knight was. You're lucky that all you were facing here was dungeon generated Ratmen. If you had been fighting a real Ratman champion from the southern continent, you would have had no chance of winning."

Zane tried to wheeze out a response, but he couldn't get out anything because of the weight on his back and chest. He could barely breathe. "Get... off... me..." Gwen rolled her eyes and stepped off of him, turning to face him.

Zane got up on his knees, leaning forward has he caught his breath. "What do you mean by dungeon generated?"

"I mean that these monsters you faced are composed of mana and created by the dungeon. They do not have the experience of a real-life monster. They may have the same stats as their real counterparts, but they don't have the experience." Gwen shook her head. "In many ways, they're just like you. Many of your skills and abilities come because they were given to you by the gods, but you don't have the experience to use them correctly. From what I could tell from our little fight, our stats are about the same, but I easily handled you because I have much more experience fighting than you do. If you want to be able to defeat the real denizens of this world, you're going to have to get more experience with your weapons and skills. I can help you with some training, but I don't use weapons. We need to find a human settlement and find you a teacher."

[You have received a new quest: Make your way to your first human settlement and find a weapons instructor.]

Zane stared at the notification in front of him. "Did you really just give me a quest?"

Gwen looked at him inquisitively. "How would I give you a quest? I may know about your system, but I don't have access to it."

"Then I guess whoever is controlling this system agrees with you. I just got a quest to find the human settlement and an instructor."

Gwen straightened, a pleased look on her face. "At least the system recognizes good ideas."

Zane rolled his eyes. "Well before we get started on this quest, I should probably look at my skill points and where to put them."
