The night light seemed to dim a little after Rhett's words. Rain and Cealan glanced at each other, not sure of how to react. For a moment, they let the words sink in like it was a passover meal.
"But still... what does that have to do with Rain?" Cealan was first to speak. He was not new to such bargains. At war, he had seen too many, and most times it came without sincerity.
"I don't know... I just want something better and a possibly better environment for someone." Rhett's gaze flickered towards Hazel, but quickly directed back to Rain, but it wasn't quick enough for Cealan to notice.
"You won't use my mate as a stepping stone," Cealan said firmly.
