Chapter 67 - Two Souls, One Doorframe

Rhett and Hazel stepped into his wing with quietness. Then, as the door closed behind them, Hazel broke the silence.

"Why didn't you say anything?" he asked.

Rhett didn't turn. "About what... the marriage or the bond?" he asked, and Hazel drew in a long breath.

"Both."

"That's funny... You didn't look at me the night of the bond," Rhett chuckled.

Hazel had no words. Another wave of quietness swept through them.

"When?" Hazel asked.

"Right now... at any moment."

Rhett walked over to his bedroom, and as his hand reached for the doorknob, he paused, his head tilted to the side.

"She won't be coming..."

Four words, and he turned the doorknob and walked inside like he hadn't just poured a bucket of cold water on Hazel.

Political marriages were a thing, but with the southern kingdom, one never expected the bride or groom to come to them; rather, they went over and married there. And now a few things made more sense.
