Chapter 23 - Chapter 22 – The Peak of Power

The wind swept across the shattered battlefield, carrying dust and the scent of scorched earth. Kaido stood tall despite the bruises and blood staining his skin, his laughter booming across the wasteland. Ren rolled his shoulders once, his expression shifting from amused mentor to something far more serious.

"Well, enough fun. Now let me show you the peak, Kaido," Ren said calmly.

Kaido's grin widened, wild and fearless. "Worororororoo! Come at me then!" he roared, his eyes blazing with anticipation rather than fear.

In a surge of power, Kaido transformed into his Beast-Human form. His muscles expanded, scales rippling across his body as horns curved toward the sky. The air trembled under the weight of his presence, lightning crackling faintly around his kanabo.

Ren vanished in a burst of Soru, reappearing directly before Kaido. Without flourish, without wasted motion, he launched a straight punch into Kaido's stomach. This time, there was no intent to train, no measured restraint.

His fist was wrapped in Conqueror's Haki infusion, black lightning spiraling violently around his arm. Beneath it layered Internal Destruction Ryou, the advanced flow that bypassed external defenses entirely. This was not a push. This was a demonstration.

The impact did not create an outward explosion like before. Instead, the force sank inward, detonating within Kaido's body. His eyes rolled back instantly as the shock tore through his organs, the Conqueror's infusion crushing his spirit while Internal Destruction shattered him from within.

Kaido was launched backward, crashing across the battlefield like a broken comet. The earth split and rose in jagged waves as his body skidded to a halt. Silence fell heavy.

He lay there unconscious.

For a moment, the scene mirrored a future battle Ren remembered all too well—Luffy striking Kaido atop Onigashima. But this was not a prolonged war of attrition. This was a single punch from the peak.

Ren lowered his arm slowly, exhaling. "That," he said quietly, "is the summit."

He walked toward Kaido's fallen form, studying him carefully. "You're strong," Ren admitted. "Stronger than most in this era. But you're not there yet."

With a subtle gesture, Ren used telekinesis to lift Kaido's massive body into the air. Yamato's face flashed in his mind. She was his friend. No matter what Kaido had done, Ren would not kill her father—not like this.

"I'll leave the rest to time," he murmured.

---

When Ren returned to the capital, the war was already over.

The streets were filled with wounded but victorious samurai. Beast Pirates and Orochi's loyalists were bound in chains, kneeling in defeat. The oppressive air that had suffocated Wano for decades felt lighter, as though the country itself could finally breathe.

Toki stood at the center of it all, her blade clean but her presence commanding. King was imprisoned in Seastone restraints nearby, his once-imposing aura reduced to silence.

Ren landed softly and released Kaido onto the ground before the gathered warriors. Gasps rippled through the crowd.

"He… defeated Kaido?" one samurai whispered.

Toki's eyes met Ren's, calm but searching. Ren gave a small nod. The message was clear.

One by one, the samurai knelt. Then all at once, the entire gathering bowed deeply.

"From this day forward," one elder declared, voice trembling with emotion, "Ren is the King of Wano!"

The declaration echoed across the capital.

Ren rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "Alright, alright… that's enough," he said, though his tone carried authority. He looked at toki. "You and Shakky will be running this country. I will protect it."

The samurai raised their heads in confusion. "My lord?" one asked cautiously.

Ren pointed toward the prisoners. "Take them and use them as labor to help purify the rivers and land. Stop the weapons factories immediately. Dismantle them. Focus on restoring the farmland."

"Yes!" the samurai answered in unison.

"I want every samurai who carries a sword to gather here in the capital tomorrow," Ren continued firmly. "We rebuild from the ground up."

"Yes!" they repeated, their voices stronger now, filled with hope.

"You can go now," Ren said.

The samurai dispersed swiftly, energized by purpose rather than fear for the first time in years.

---

Ren turned toward Toki, who was watching him with a faintly amused expression.

"As king, I appoint you Governor of Wano," Ren announced calmly. "You'll handle everything."

Toki's mouth twitched. "What do you mean?"

"Well," Ren began, looking slightly embarrassed, "I don't really know how to run a country. I'll protect it. Since Shakky is away, you'll have to manage it."

Toki blinked slowly. "You're declaring me governor because you don't want paperwork?"

Ren coughed lightly. "It's more complicated than that."

"It doesn't sound complicated," she replied dryly.

He stepped closer, lowering his voice. "You understand the people. You understand responsibility. I trust you."

Her expression softened slightly despite herself. "You're impossible," she muttered.

"Is that a yes?" Ren asked with a grin.

Toki sighed deeply. "Fine. I'll do it."

Relief washed across Ren's face. "Thank you."

Without hesitation, he pulled her into a hug. Toki stiffened for a second before relaxing slightly against him. Ren leaned down and kissed her gently.

Behind them, Kaido and King were carried away to heavily reinforced prison cells lined with Seastone. Even unconscious, Kaido's presence felt heavy, but it no longer dominated the land.

Ren turned serious again. "Send word to the remaining Beast Pirates. Hunt them down. Capture them. No unnecessary bloodshed."

"It will be done," one retainer answered firmly.

The retainers moved immediately, organizing search squads. For the first time, their movements were not driven by desperation but by faith.

---

As twilight settled over Wano, Ren stood at the edge of the capital walls.

He had dismantled the tyrant. He had defeated the strongest creature in this land. He had reshaped the future in a single day.

But one promise still remained.

"I need to go see someone," Ren said quietly.

Toki glanced at him knowingly. "Yamato?"

Ren nodded. "She deserves to know."

Toki folded her arms. "Be gentle."

Ren smiled faintly. "I always am."

With that, he stepped into the air, vanishing in a burst of Soru toward Onigashima. The war for Wano was over, but the bonds he had formed were far more complicated than any battlefield.

And waiting atop that island fortress was a girl who had just watched her father fall.
