"Is that really a necessary question, Florate? Well, if you must know, I am here to see my girlfriend, Rain."
"Your girlfriend?" Florate was now losing his cool.
"Let me remind you, Nexine, in case you are having some kind of memory loss, sight loss, or brain issues. That girl lying on that bed," he pointed at the bed where Rain lay, "is Rain Flake, my girlfriend. So you better get yourself out of here before I make you leave myself." He clenched his fists.
"Don't be ridiculous, Florate," he scoffed. "We both know that Rain truly loves me and not you. She has eyes only for me. She is only with you because I allowed her to be. But now, I want her all to myself, so just drop whatever moronic claim you have on her because she is mine! Isn't that right, Rain, love?" He touched her cheeks as he spoke, which got Florate really fired up.
He had purposely got himself disqualified with Lilith's help only so he could get the chance to see Rain, to be with her. But now this idiotic Nexine is here! Claiming that she was his! No! He was not going to take that.
With clenched fists, he made to launch an attack on him but cut his tracks when the nurse from earlier, followed by two other nurses, came into the room with a stretcher to take Rain out to the X-ray room.
"Oh, my boy. Florate, how are you?" one of the nurses patted his back.
"I am very well, nanny Adelaide," Florate answered, trying to cool off some steam. It was his nanny Adelaide; she came in with the nurse from earlier and it looked like they were about to move Rain.
"How have you been?"
"Very good, child. But you no longer have time to come see your nanny. I guess Rain now has all your attention," she smiled at him. "Oh, my boy. Look at you, all skin and bones." She pinched his cheeks. "I asked your parents to help me get this job so I can take good care of you, my boy, but all you do is fight all day and eat nothing." She looked worried.
"Nanny, there is no need to worry. I am perfectly fine and healthy. How is Rain?" he asked, not wanting to hear any more of her motherly talk. They made him feel like he was still the baby and needed her help to make life choices.
His parents dedicated their lives to Triven and its science arm and never had time to raise him. Nanny Adelaide was the one who brought him up, and even when he grew up to leave home for Nerwin, she had his parents get her a job here so she wouldn't lose sight of him. That was how much she loved and cared about him.
"She is very well, child. We just need to examine her first; she seems to have serious internal injuries," she said sadly.
She might be his nanny but she was a professional nurse as well. She actually got to know Florate's parents from this profession of hers since they all were under the science arm. She had suspended her job as a nurse just to nurse Florate alone, but now he was grown, she decided to nurse others as well with the mind of always being there for him.
"Besides that, you and Nex must be friends," she smiled to both of them but no one answered. "He is indeed a very sweet boy. I was told by nurse Sara that he was here for Rain while you were combating. You should thank him already." She fumbled his hair.
Nex was no longer comfortable staying there with the nurses' presence. Besides, he had a match against Dodge and he was no joke. He had to leave now and fast.
"That won't be necessary, nurse," he said cheerfully. "Like I said before, Rain is more than a friend to me. I did what I did for her, not for Florate. She is a very wonderful person." He looked down on her again before smiling at himself, which irritated Florate more, but he did not want to cause any commotion since the nurses were here. "Now if you will please excuse me, I have a match to attend to," he said seriously before finally stepping out of the room.
"Such a wonderful young man," nurse Adelaide commented again, but this time Florate didn't shut up at it.
"Trust me, nanny Adelaide, he is not. He is trying to steal my girlfriend. How can you call such a person nice?" He frowned.
"You, my boy, are just paranoid. He is just being a good boy. He is a very caring person. You should make him your friend too," she smiled sweetly.
"No, nanny. I am not agreeing to that. I have enough friends already," he turned away from her.
"Oh, you stubborn boy. You never listen." She sighed deeply before turning away from him too, to the nurses.
"Get her on the stretcher; we need to take her to the X-ray room. The doctor there will take over." They nodded and carried out her instructions.
Florate saw them go to carry Rain, so he helped them out by lifting her from the bed and placing her carefully on the stretcher. He made to follow them to the X-ray room but his nanny stopped him.
"And you. Where do you think you are going to?" she turned to him, looking at him with a deep frown on her face.
"What is it again, nanny? I want to be with Rain."
"That is not happening, child," she said sternly.
"What? Why? She needs me to be by her side." He bit his lip.
"No," she objected. "She needs you to fill this empty stomach—" She slapped his belly lightly, "with food, lots of it ."
"No, nanny, I can't eat anything till I am certain Rain is fine." He shook his head stubbornly.
"Are you trying to go against your nanny?"
"Of course not. But..." He scratched his forehead in frustration.
"No buts. Get something to eat first and pack some for her too. Till you have done that, do not return here." She made sure her orders were clear before she left him in there, shutting the door behind her.
Florate scratched his head in annoyance. He knew nanny Adelaide only wanted the best for him and if he didn't want her to get ill out of worrying about him, then he must do as she just said.
However, it would give him the opportunity to deal with that Nex for touching Rain. He just could not understand the kind of obsession Nex had with Rain since four years ago and it still looked like he wasn't over it. He must find out what it was and get rid of it before he kills him with bare hands for getting close to Rain again.
'Psych!'…
