As the vibrant meadows of the Floaroma flower fields faded into the distance, the trio settled into a rhythmic pace toward Floaroma Town. The adrenaline from the encounter with Hunter J had cooled, leaving Dawn's mind spinning with questions about the crimson titan that had just dominated the field.

"Ash, seriously, how can Scizor do that?" Dawn asked, her eyes wide with lingering amazement. "I've never seen an evolution like that. It's like he became a completely different Pokémon for a few minutes!"

"It's called Mega Evolution," Ash explained, adjusting his cap. He felt a bit like a pioneer, knowing that the formal research by Professor Sycamore in the Kalos region wouldn't be public for years. "It's a temporary peak state. To reach it, a Pokémon must be in its final stage, and both the Trainer and the Pokémon need special stones—a Key Stone for the human and a Mega Stone for the Pokémon."

"So... could my Piplup do it?" Dawn's eyes sparkled with hope.

"Not Piplup," Ash replied gently. "But your Buneary's final form, Lopunny, definitely can. When it Mega Evolves, it gains the Fighting type and becomes a master of physical combat."

Dawn immediately checked her Pink Pokédex. Seeing the powerful silhouette of Mega Lopunny, she beamed. "I'll have to ask Buneary if she's ready for that kind of power!" Ash smiled, though he privately wondered if Buneary would ever want to grow that much larger than her beloved Pikachu.

"And Brock," Ash added, turning to the silent breeder, "your Steelix has one of the most defensive Mega forms in existence. If you ever find a Steelixite, you'll be nearly unstoppable."

Brock's eyes widened slightly, then he nodded with a knowing smile. The bond between them meant he didn't need to ask how Ash knew these things; he simply trusted the veteran's insight.

"Okay, but Ash... how did you know Hunter J was a criminal?" Dawn's curiosity shifted to his detective work. "Even I didn't recognize her, and I grew up here!"

"You're just not reading enough news, Dawn!" Ash lied smoothly, gently flicking her forehead. "Infamous hunters like her are always in the weeklies. You should spend less time on hair magazines and more on the headlines!"

"Ow! That's mean!" Dawn squeaked, covering her forehead with teary eyes before launching a playful punch at his shoulder.

The two began a spirited game of tag, weaving through the tall grass. Ash, utilizing his "Super True Human" stamina, stayed just out of her reach, leading her on a chase that eventually brought them to the outskirts of a small hamlet.

By the time they reached the village gates, Dawn was out of breath and thoroughly "pouting." She sat down on a mossy log, crossing her arms and looking away with a huff. "I'm not talking to you anymore. I'm staying right here."

"Hahaha! I'm going on ahead with the only other single guy here!" Brock laughed, hoisting his pack.

"Pikachu!" The mouse waved a paw at Ash, choosing the promise of village snacks over his Trainer's flirting, and trotted after Brock.

"Look, even Pikachu thinks you're being stubborn," Ash said, walking over to the girl. "Come on, get up."

"No!"

"Do I have to carry you?"

"You wouldn't dare!"

Ash didn't argue. He reached down and, in one fluid motion, swept her up. Dawn let out a startled yelp, her hands instinctively locking behind his neck.

"Ash! Put me down! This is embarrassing!" she hissed, though her grip didn't loosen. She was acutely aware of how short her skirt was, pressing her hand against the fabric as Ash began walking toward the village.

"You said you weren't moving," Ash teased, shifting his grip. To make it easier for the long walk, he transitioned from a princess carry to a more secure hold at his waist, supporting her with one arm wrapped firmly around her back and the other resting near the hem of her skirt to keep it in place.

"Hmph!" Dawn's face was now a deep shade of scarlet, looking like a steam engine about to overheat. She squeezed his waist with her legs to keep from slipping, her heart racing. "Just... just don't move around too much, okay?"

"I'm just walking, Dawn," Ash said, his tone innocent despite the playful glint in his eyes.

Dawn fell silent, her hand covering her mouth as she hid her face against his shoulder. As they entered the village, the "Narrative Architect" knew that while the badges were important, these moments of growing affection were the real milestones of the journey.
