Chapter 64 - Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Yang Jian didn't use super speed, but walked together with everyone.

Ten minutes later

The group stood in front of a vintage-style apartment building. Gwen looked at Yang Jian in confusion.

"What are we doing here?"

Deadpool exaggeratedly surveyed the building beside them.

"Whoa, this place looks like Grandma's backyard! Don't tell me you renovated it with heat vision?"

Yang Jian smiled at Coulson and the others: "This is where you'll live from now on."

"Live here?"

Coulson and Melinda exchanged glances. "But we don't even have identification."

Scarlet energy flickered in Wanda's eyes: "Do you need me to rewrite reality?"

Gwen quietly pulled Yang Jian aside: "What exactly did you do?"

"Don't worry," Yang Jian said casually.

"I just bought the place. You're the landlord now."

"What?!" Gwen's eyes widened.

Everyone present stared at Yang Jian in shock.

Deadpool clutched his chest dramatically: "Wait! I've seen this plot before!"

He suddenly leaned close to Yang Jian and whispered in imitation: "Bruce, how did you get the farm back? I bought the bank."

Bang!

Yang Jian punched Deadpool flat to the ground.

Gwen stared in disbelief: "Yang, how did you do that? You were with us the whole time."

Coulson mused thoughtfully: "Do you also have reality-warping abilities?"

Wanda immediately looked at Yang Jian with excitement.

"Not that complicated," Yang Jian shook his right hand.

"My AI just handled all the paperwork."

He shrugged: "Used a little money ability. The money kind."

Gwen looked puzzled: "But where did the money come from? You're not from this universe."

"Wall Street," Yang Jian said lightly.

"There's plenty of money there anyway."

At that moment Deadpool suddenly sprang back up like a zombie.

"Whoa! That ability is so cool! Can money fix my face? Honestly I've been putting up with this mug for way too long!"

God knows how much Deadpool missed his handsome face! Even though it wasn't handsome.

Yang Jian smirked: "No, you look better this way."

"Really?"

Deadpool immediately became coy: "You actually think I'm good-looking! I'll have your monkey babies! You're too hot, Superman!"

Slap!

This time Gwen couldn't take it anymore and slapped him flying.

"Ugh!"

Gwen awkwardly looked at the group: "He's too gross."

Coulson gave a tactical cough: "We didn't see anything."

Wanda held back laughter: "He's always like this."

"Indeed." Echo nodded in agreement.

Yang Jian pushed open the apartment building door and looked back at everyone: "Let's go up and take a look first."

Coulson leaned on the temporary crutch he'd found: "Come on, let's see the new home Superman prepared for us."

As the group was about to enter, Deadpool bounced back up again.

"Wait for me! I want the biggest room! Preferably with a jacuzzi!"

Gwen rolled her eyes and whispered to Yang Jian: "Can we throw him out?"

Yang Jian smiled and wrapped an arm around her waist: "After we settle them in, I'll take you somewhere nice."

Deadpool suddenly popped up between them: "Whoa! PG-13 topic! Should I step away?"

Shoo!

This time both Wanda and Gwen attacked simultaneously. Deadpool was bound into a cocoon with chaos magic and webs, hanging from the porch.

Echo held back laughter but still couldn't help chuckling.

The elevator dinged at the fifth floor. Everyone stepped out and surveyed the spacious, bright hallway.

"Whoa!"

Deadpool bounced around like an excited husky, touching everything.

"This decor is way too luxurious! My old apartment's wallpaper was literally newspaper I glued myself!"

Wanda nodded: "Good thing there's an elevator."

Echo agreed: "I've hated climbing stairs my whole life."

Melinda May touched the smooth wall, showing rare surprise.

"A lifetime at S.H.I.E.L.D. and I still couldn't afford a place like this."

Coulson looked at her curiously: "Where'd your salary go?"

"Beauty treatments."

Melinda answered calmly. "And clothes."

Coulson gave another tactical cough, pretending he didn't hear.

Gwen examined the delicate wall lamps and solid wood floors, whispering to Yang Jian.

"How much is the rent here? How much do the other tenants pay?"

"Normal people couldn't afford it."

Yang Jian smiled and pinched her hand: "But now you're the landlord. The whole building is yours."

Deadpool bounced to a high-tech fingerprint-locked door: "Ha! Biometric lock!"

He turned and grinned sleazily: "Do we need to cut off the manager's finger? I don't mind."

Yang Jian simply placed his hand on the scanner. The bio-field instantly simulated the correct fingerprint. The lock beeped green.

"That's not scientific!"

Deadpool dramatically threw himself against the door: "This is more advanced than S.H.I.E.L.D. security!"

Pushing the door open, the sight inside stunned everyone.

The spacious living room had soft carpets. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the New York skyline.

The open kitchen was fully equipped with smart appliances.

Three bedroom doors stood half-open, hinting at luxurious interiors.

"My God!"

Coulson turned a circle on his crutch: "This is more luxurious than the Director's safehouse."

Deadpool had already rushed into the master bedroom and rolled around on the soft king bed.

"I call this room! Anyone who fights me will regret it!"

Gwen's eyes sparkled as she looked at Yang Jian: "Yang, that AI of yours that can hack banks—I think we should install one here too!"

Wanda sat on the leather sofa with a laugh: "Looks like money power is way more practical than my chaos magic."

Yang Jian sat in the center of the living room sofa and patted the spot beside him.

Gwen naturally sat next to him. The others gradually took seats—except Deadpool, who was rummaging through the kitchen cabinets.

"Any snacks? I'm hungry enough to eat a zombie!"

"Listen up, everyone." Yang Jian looked around the group.

"This is your new home. Identity issues will be handled by my AI. Living expenses are already deposited into newly opened accounts. But there are conditions."

Melinda frowned: "We can't keep relying on you."

"Consider it employee dorms."

Yang Jian cut her off: "I need you to help me monitor abnormal situations in this universe."

Deadpool suddenly poked his head out from the kitchen.

"Wait! Are we forming a new team? What's the name? Superman's Harem Guard Squad?"

Shoo!

A heat vision beam grazed his ear and scorched a sticky note on the fridge.

"Okay okay," Deadpool raised his hands in surrender.

"The silent handsome sidekick position works too."

Gwen leaned on Yang Jian's shoulder, gazing at the sunset outside the window.

"So… this is our new beginning?"

Yang Jian held her hand: "Just the beginning."

Then he looked around at everyone, his gaze steady.

"Next, I need you to form a team in this universe, specifically to monitor and handle abnormal phenomena. Gwen will assist you."

Deadpool immediately sprang up from the floor like an excited groundhog.

"Whoa! New team! Let me think of names… Deadpool and His Little Minions? Or Red Spandex Alliance? Or…"

Slap!

Yang Jian slapped him back to the floor.

Gwen blinked: "So we're forming a superhero squad?"

"Exactly our old line of work."

Coulson smiled while adjusting his tattered suit cuffs.

Melinda May shrugged: "Just another day as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents."

Wanda nodded: "I was an Avenger anyway. Just switching universes to keep going."

Echo raised her hand: "Count me in."
