Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Newt Favorability, get! (Bonus Chapter)

To Kate, magic was just like mathematics; theoretically, it held infinite possibilities for exploration.

It was just that in her past life, she was bad at math and didn't know magic, so this infinite possibility could only be approximately equal to zero.

But this life was different!

Although her math was still not very good, Hogwarts didn't teach math, only magic!

If she didn't seize the opportunity to explore it now, she would only be thinking about how to survive until graduation once she entered Hogwarts later.

Therefore, as long as the understanding of every spell was based on the premise of the correct path, any practice method could be tried.

For example, this method of unlocking the Nine Linked Rings through a small wooden box.

Although the method was a bit rugged and the idea a bit unconstrained, facts proved it was feasible.

Not only could it accelerate the proficiency of the Unlocking Charm, but it could also exercise her focus.

She had a clear goal for her practice method. As for that sentence similar to "Learning magic is so f*ing fun"...

It was plagiarized from a certain mahjong girl who loved "blooming on the ridge."

But for Newt, this sentence was like a ton of TNT exploding in his heart.

Magic possesses the infinite joy of exploration.

This sentence was something the vast majority of young wizards still studying at Hogwarts could absolutely not comprehend on their own.

Because the fixed schedules, the fixed teaching content, and the textbooks that had been fixed in the magical world for who knows how many years limited their thinking.

He had seen too many young wizards who, during their school years, only learned magic to pass the annual final exams.

Those in slightly higher years only wanted to pass their O.W.L. or N.E.W.T. exams so they could find a decent job after graduation.

With so many people graduating from Hogwarts every year, how many young wizards continued to climb upward purely because they wanted to explore the fun of magic?

Actually, Newt himself knew that although wizards were wizards, aside from knowing magic, they were no different from ordinary Muggles.

Everyone had their own life, and magic was just a part of life.

No one could demand that every wizard sacrifice their life to deeply research magic.

But undoubtedly, from ancient times to the present, any great wizard capable of achieving major success must have always held a heart of exploration and enterprise toward magic.

Even the Dark Lord of that era, and the mysterious person from a decade ago, were no exceptions.

Newt asked himself; when he was resisting the Dark Lord back then, he had also wavered regarding the magical power he mastered.

He wasn't shaken by the Dark Lord's words, but simply felt confused about his original intention for learning magic.

It wasn't until the Dark Lord was defeated and imprisoned in the high tower that he found his original intention for learning magic again in his later life.

And now, his newly accepted disciple could actually articulate such an insight.

Connecting this to the child's magic power, which was comparable to an adult wizard, and her high talent of understanding magic instantly...

Newt could almost confirm that a new star of the magical world was already rising!

It was just unknown whether this future star would illuminate the magical world like Dumbledore, or be stained by darkness, causing the entire magical world to fall into darkness once again.

Looking with a complex expression at the child with pure eyes before him, he slowly reached out his withered, old hand and gently touched her hair.

"Teacher, what's wrong?"

Kate didn't understand what his expression meant and confusedly reached out to grab his palm.

"...I'm fine." After a long silence, Newt finally came back to his senses. Looking at his disciple's worried face, a smile appeared on his own.

He bent down and asked cheerfully, "Little Kate, do you like magic very much?"

Kate blinked hesitantly. "Can I tell the truth?"

"Of course. Here with me, you can say whatever you want." He nodded seriously.

"Alright."

Kate weighed her words in her heart. "Actually, at first, I was both afraid of magic and wanted to be close to it. Teacher, you also know that my family..."

She paused, turning her head away, feeling a bit bitter.

Living things all seek advantage and avoid harm, and someone like her, who had experienced death once, was even more so.

After transmigrating, she had watched a huge family of nearly ten people gradually wither away.

Finally, only she, a child, and the old butler over seventy were left. How could she not be afraid?

But fear was just fear. In her past life, she was an adult after all; she knew that when it was time to face things, nothing could be dodged.

She had stayed at home next to Hermione's house for many years, but was finally told she had to return to the magical world. At this point, blindly fearing and avoiding it was no longer of any use.

So she changed her past attitude, agreed to accept Newt as her teacher, worked hard to complete every task released by the System, and strove to make herself strong.

Even if she couldn't kill Voldemort, at least she wouldn't be killed by him.

"When I decided to return to the magical world, I knew magic would be the only weapon I could rely on."

"Before, it was the old butler who always protected me. But he will eventually age, and I will eventually grow up. One day, it will be my turn to protect him, and everyone around me that I want to protect."

"I like magic. I like its mystery, I like its infinite possibilities, and I like the sense of security it brings me after learning it even more."

Kate raised her head, her eyes having turned red around the rims at some point. "Teacher, do you think my reason for learning magic is too utilitarian?"

"How could it be?" Newt immediately leaned down and hugged her. "Learning magic to protect yourself and others shows that you are the best kind of child."

So, now he understood why Kate would think of unconstrained ideas to practice spells.

Essentially, she still wanted to make herself strong quickly.

It was just that this desire to become strong wasn't for some ambition or greed, but because she had a heart that wanted to protect others.

Newt knew a lot about this child from Rand and Dumbledore.

He knew her character was introverted and closed off, and he knew she had exceptional talent but couldn't control it.

When accepting her as a disciple, Newt had already anticipated the worst-case scenario.

But, in the few days Kate had been at his home, the anticipated bad things hadn't happened. On the contrary, this child was indeed pure and kind.

To speak bluntly, she was much better than many young wizards who could attend school normally but caused trouble every day.

"Good child," Newt comforted gently, holding the tiny one in his arms. "Keep your innocent heart, and in the future, you can protect everyone you want to protect."

Kate sobbed softly as she drilled out of his arms, her red eyes wide open. "Really?"

"How would Teacher lie to you?" Newt lovingly pinched her face.

It looked like he would have to write a proper letter to Dumbledore later about this child's matters.
