Chapter 128 - The Heritage of a Prestigious School

On his third day in the Imperial Capital, Owen finally had the opportunity to enter Imperial Capital University for a tour. As one of the top two universities in the country, Owen had admired this institution for a long time.

Unlike Renmin University, there were no student volunteers stationed outside to guide tourists. Owen wandered in alone, clutching his letter of recommendation.

After asking for directions along the way, he eventually found the university's External Affairs Building.

"A recommendation letter from the Suzhou Province, Fairview Trainer Association?"

Director Lewis, the head of the External Affairs Office, ran a department whose sole purpose was to receive important visitors from across the country. After verifying the authenticity of the letter, Director Lewis nodded toward Owen.

"Hello, Student Owen."

"Hello, Director," Owen replied politely.

This type of recommendation letter was typically only given by local Trainer Associations to students they believed had the potential and talent to actually get into such a university.

In other words, by holding this letter, Owen was officially recognized as a genius trainer capable of reaching the heights of Imperial Capital University.

Director Lewis had received several rookie trainers with similar letters recently, so once Owen's identity was confirmed, he immediately assigned someone to take him on a tour of the campus.

A young woman from the office, acting as his guide, opened a handbook and began introducing the facilities to Owen.

"This is the Solar House. It maintains a permanent 'Sunny Day' state 24 hours a day. It's an excellent location for training Grass and Fire-type Pokémon, and it has miraculous effects for practicing moves like Solar Beam."

"This is the Flight Plaza, specifically built for maneuvers like Acrobatics and Aerial Ace. Even those with zero foundation can systematically learn various Flying-type moves here."

"The Botanical Garden—don't let the name fool you. It primarily cultivates toxic plants suitable for Poison-types to absorb toxins. There are eleven different types of toxins here that can be integrated into the move Toxic."

"Over here is the Artificial Waterfall..."

"Here is the Underground Ice Cave..."

"And here is the Charging Room..."

As the guide, Ms. Wei, continued her introduction, Owen rubbed his eyes. Where do I even start? And this was just the tip of the iceberg.

"This is the Imperial Capital University Library. The third floor is the Move Secret Technique collection. You can borrow manuals for nearly a hundred different moves, as well as access foundational breeding methods for a vast array of Pokémon."

Owen finally understood why Imperial Capital University was such a legendary school. In the match videos Zoe had shown the New Star trio, trainers from ordinary universities were almost always "one-shot" by students from here. Looking at these facilities, it wasn't hard to see why.

With this kind of heritage, even a mediocre trainer polished here for three or four years would end up being formidable—provided they didn't get expelled first.

"Ms. Wei, I heard that some of the training facilities are open to the public. Is that true?" Owen asked, his heart itching to try them out.

"I'm not a teacher, you can just call me Ms. Wei or Guide Wei," she said with a smile. "Actually, you've picked a bit of an off-time. Currently, only the Gravity Training Field is open for external use. Would you like to experience it?"

"A Gravity Training Field?"

"Yes. It's generally where Fighting-type Pokémon go to train, though other types use it as well. It's mainly for tempering a Pokémon's physical constitution and willpower. Depending on the visitor's needs, you can choose between several times the normal gravity or even higher."

"I definitely want to try that," Owen said. It's like the gravity room from Dragon Ball!

"Alright, follow me," Ms. Wei said.

The Gravity Training Field at Imperial Capital University was massive—roughly the size of a football field—and partitioned into different zones. The area was enclosed, and while Owen suspected there might be Pokémon inside using the move Gravity, it was more likely a new technology developed after Pokémon integrated into the human world.

"A visiting rookie trainer?"

The person in charge of managing the field was an old man who looked remarkably like the security guard back at Fairview No. 1. However, Owen knew that anyone managing a facility like this at a top-tier university was likely a retired professional trainer.

The old man's voice was booming, not sounding like a senior's at all. Ms. Wei handed over her ID card and explained, "Yes, he's a rookie with a recommendation letter from a branch association, visiting during his winter break."

"Understood. Go on in," the manager said, glancing at Owen. "Since you're a rookie, we'll start the gravity at the lowest multiplier and work our way up."

"The experience lasts ten minutes... well, if you can even last that long."

"I'll do my best..." Owen scratched his head, feeling a bit nervous.

Entering the high-tech training room, Owen noticed the walls were made of a special crystal—transparent but tinted black, looking very mysterious. The manager led them to the nearest room and pressed a few buttons on the wall, causing a grid of options to appear like a computer screen.

Swish!

The walls became transparent, allowing Owen to see clearly into the training chamber from the outside.

"The trainer stays in this outer room; send the Pokémon inside. You can see everything from here, and your voice will be transmitted in, so you can communicate directly."

The old man continued, "There are many challenge modes for the gravity room, like 'Dodgeball' for beginners. But since you're new, I won't turn on the challenge modes. You can just experience the gravity itself."

"Thank you." Owen thought for a moment and pulled out Magnemite's Pokéball. Theoretically, Magnemite could learn the move Gravity itself; perhaps experiencing it would lead to a breakthrough.

At the same time, this environment would show the absolute limit of Magnemite's ability to use Thunder Wave to counter the pull of the earth.

Under the watchful eyes of the manager and Ms. Wei, Owen released Magnemite.

"Oh? A Magnemite?" The old man stroked his beard and smiled for the first time. "This will be interesting. The battle between electromagnetic waves and gravity—you don't see that very often here."

"Kuo-yi??"

Released into the room, Magnemite looked around blankly. Owen quickly explained the situation. As soon as it heard it was a "Gravity Challenge," Magnemite became eager to try.

After all, its initial struggle with flight was due to its inability to use electromagnetism to nullify gravity. Now that it could fly skillfully, normal gravity was no problem.

But normal gravity was one thing... what about double gravity? Or triple? Magnemite didn't know if it could succeed, but it was ready to find out.
