irst, double gravity.
Magnemite, weighing 6kg, effectively became 12kg. Although the gravity field was invisible to the naked eye, Owen could sense the shift in the room's atmosphere.
Whoosh!
A heavy wave of pressure suddenly suppressed everything within the chamber.
"Kuo... yi!!"
Magnemite plummeted rapidly. In mid-air, it frantically released a surge of even stronger electromagnetic waves. Finally, just before hitting the floor, it wobbled and ground to a halt, hovering precariously.
Magnemite let out a breath of relief, clumsily manipulating its waves to counteract the crushing force. Its awkward flight posture made it look as though it had reverted to the day it first learned to fly.
"Looks like triple gravity might be its limit. Want to let it try?" the old manager asked.
"Let Magnemite adapt for two minutes first," Owen replied.
Enduring the double gravity, Magnemite rapidly increased its electromagnetic output. During this process, it began to sense the fluctuations of the gravity field itself. Unlike natural gravity, the force in this room felt familiar to Magnemite.
It felt as though it could control a similar type of energy.
"Kuo-yi!" Magnemite's eye swiveled. This was clearly the power of psychic energy. Earth's gravity was being amplified through psychokinetic force.
"Magnemite, want to try triple gravity?" Owen's voice rang out after two minutes.
"Kuo-yi," Magnemite signaled its readiness.
When the triple gravity was applied, Magnemite dropped straight to the floor this time. Then... it began to move slowly by using its side magnets like legs. It even moved with a surprising amount of grace.
"Uh..." The manager and Ms. Wei stared with wide eyes.
Triple gravity was indeed hard to bear, but usually, if a Pokémon couldn't fly, it just stayed down. What was this?
Owen caught their looks. A walking Magnemite—never seen one before? Believe it or not, it walks better than it flies!
Magnemite moved about, sensing the gravity field in different parts of the room and attempting to overcome it with its waves.
The triple gravity was nearly equal to Magnemite's maximum electromagnetic output; it couldn't fully nullify the pull, and every time it managed to lift off, a slight slip in control sent it crashing back down.
"What a place," Owen muttered, regretful that they only had ten minutes. This was a goldmine for training. He definitely had to get into a university with a gravity field!
Three minutes later, Magnemite managed a steady hover. The manager nodded, acknowledging Magnemite's talent.
Good control over electromagnetic waves. It can't fly high, but matching the field's intensity in just a few minutes is impressive, the old man thought calmly.
"Excuse me... how many Pokémon are allowed in the room at once?" Owen suddenly asked in a low voice.
"What do you mean?" the manager asked, puzzled.
"I want my starter to go in and try it too," Owen said, taking out Eevee's Pokéball.
Manager: "..." Ms. Wei: "..."
They had both assumed Magnemite was his starter. You have two Pokémon already? After the initial shock, the manager chuckled. A rookie who earned the right to two Pokémon in his first year—that was rare.
"Go ahead. As long as there's space, you can stuff as many in as you like."
Owen grinned and called out Eevee. Emerging from her ball, Eevee looked at Magnemite—who was alternating between low-altitude hovering and crawling—and her expression turned sour.
"Vee??" Eevee pointed to herself, asking Owen if he really wanted her to go in there.
"Yes..."
Eevee: (⊙_⊙)
She walked to the entrance and began "talking" to Magnemite. After whatever Magnemite said to her, Eevee took a deep breath and stepped inside.
Her expression froze. Her physical conditioning was much better than Magnemite's electromagnetic control, so enduring triple gravity wasn't as agonizing for her. However, it certainly wasn't comfortable.
Eevee gritted her teeth and began to walk, then transitioned into a slow run. She adapted to triple gravity with startling speed.
"This..." The manager looked surprised. "This Eevee's physical constitution is outstanding. Her foundation is rock-solid. Regardless of what she evolves into, she'll have incredible combat power."
He was genuinely impressed. For a rookie to train a Pokémon's overall fitness to this level—not just focusing on one or two body parts—was something to be proud of.
A moment later, Magnemite and Eevee began mumbling to each other again. Eevee frowned, then nodded.
Both Pokémon wanted Owen to turn it up to quadruple gravity.
"Are you sure?" the manager asked, stunned. "Four times gravity?"
"Yes, they want to try."
Owen didn't know what they had discussed, but he wasn't going to say no. The manager hit the switch.
Immediately, Magnemite slammed into the floor. It couldn't fly; it couldn't even crawl. Eevee fared little better, collapsing onto the floor before trembling violently as she tried to stand up.
Under the crushing weight, both Pokémon struggled with all their might. Owen watched silently. If they ever face an opponent with the move Gravity, even three or four times, will be hard to handle... unless they use energy or specific moves.
Just as the thought crossed his mind, Owen noticed a change in Magnemite.
Crushed by the pressure, Magnemite felt the flow of the gravity field and finally realized a new way to use its psychic power.
To block the suppression, its mental energy manifested as a protective layer above its body.
Then, it adjusted the structure of that layer.
Swish!
The weight of the gravity field on its body noticeably weakened. It had successfully used psychic power to counter psychic power.
Reflect and Light Screen—learned simultaneously!
With the pressure eased, Magnemite stood up, albeit slowly, and let out a grateful cry toward Eevee.
Eevee: ???
Seeing Magnemite learn two moves at once under pressure, Eevee was stunned. Magnemite... is actually this capable?
Owen was just as shocked. It's been studying Reflect for a while, and Light Screen is the first psychic move it can learn naturally through leveling up... is this a double blessing?
The manager looked at Owen with a strange expression. "Looks like it learned a new move under pressure... You lucky kid."
Owen scratched his head. It was within reason, but still a complete surprise.
