Aveline stared into the maid's eyes in surprise. This wasn't the maid who usually served her dinner.
And the woman wasn't even holding a tray.
"Hi…" Aveline said quietly, her meek voice trembling slightly with uncertainty.
Nyssa looked at her with gentle affection before kneeling down so they were at the same height.
"Hello, Your Highness," she said warmly. "You must be wondering who I am, since you've never seen me before."
Aveline blinked, then nodded slowly.
"I'm Nyssa… a new maid," she introduced softly. "Would you mind if I come in?"
Aveline stared at her for a moment, thinking. Then she stepped aside and gave her space. Nyssa's smile widened as she walked into the room.
Her eyes slowly took in the surroundings, and a strange sense of nostalgia washed over her.
Once upon a time… she had slept in rooms like this.
"Why are you here?"
Nyssa turned at the sudden question. The little princess was still standing near the door, watching her carefully.
