Chapter 10 - Ten

The Crokun had made its presence known around the orbit of the Azran planet. Snarling sounds could be heard in a black swirling vortex glued together. Thousands of hands that reached out as if to grab and consume anything in their way, faceless heads that tilt as if to sniff out their prey.

It was so grotesque and inhuman beyond imagination. The inhabitants of the Azran planet are being warned of the impending danger. Alarms were blasting through the air as citizens of Azran rushed towards the evacuating mother spacecraft.

Bram had given Tan orders to pack up the lab and transfer the test subjects in a cargo going to the base of the Unified Federation.

Hopping off his hovercraft, he made his way into the mansion. Nuit was outside looking calm as ever with the butler by his side.

"We need to leave,' Bram announced coldly as he brushed past them. "The Crokun would soon descend on Azran in fifteen minutes.

"I'm ready to go, I'll just bring Misha along,' Nuit deliberately stated with a smile on his face.

This made Bram pause a bit as if recalling a forgotten item. "Misha…

Suddenly, Misha popped out from the hallway in front of Bram. As Misha looked up at him with hesitation, Bram noticed the subtle changes in Misha. He looked... fed? His appearance was cleaner and well taken care of.

'What has Nuit been up to these few days?'

"He's not coming with us; he's already a burden as it is. I don't want him being a burden, dragging us down,' Bram snarled as he looked away, making his way up to the forbidden wing.

Nuit frowned at Bram's harsh words. "He's coming with me.

"And why is that?' Bram asked as he halted. "Are your motherly instincts awakening or something? He is my product, and I'll do what I see fit with it. Do not test me, Nuit. You have done a lot for me to lose trust in you.

"But Misha is just a little child,' Nuit tried to reason with Bram. "Are you going to leave your flesh and blood here to be consumed by something so repulsive like the Crokun?'

Nuit knew this day would come, but not this early. He must do everything in his power to prevent Misha's death.

Bram snorted, feeling frustrated and drained. He looked at Misha, who was already trembling. All he saw was a useless, unwanted charity case trying to drag him down. This really irritated him to no end.

In his eyes, Misha was a failed product. Despite being the one to carry the boy for nine good months in his womb. The boy was of no use to him…. Yet why does he feel so reluctant?

He has never done anything based on his feelings before, and he wasn't going to start now?'

"We have fifteen minutes to evacuate,' Tan's voice suddenly sounded in the communication device on Bram's wrist.

Not wasting any time, Bram made his way upstairs for his most prized possession. Nuit watched Bram as he disappeared into the dark stairs. He narrowed his eyes at Misha, "Don't worry, dear, he's not that heartless.

Misha stared blankly at Nuit, wondering if it was the same Bram they both knew or if he was talking about someone else.

His attention was once again drawn to the forbidden wing. His thoughts are unknown, yet his eyes said a lot.

The butler had packed up the necessary stuff for evacuation. Well, he may or may not have locked up the family robot in a box around the kitchen storage.

"Let's wait in the hover,' Nuit suggested, patting Misha on the head.

Though reluctant, Misha gave in, constantly looking back. Already settled in, Misha was amazed at the intricate design of the hovercraft. Looking at Nuit's cold face and the sheepish look on the butler's face, Misha felt fuzzy.

To ease his boredom, he unconsciously played with the control buttons on the hovercraft. Suddenly, he pressed a green glowing button, which immediately shut down all the doors on the hovercraft, startling Nuit and the butler.

"What the fuck', Nuit yelled as the hovercraft rose from the ground. "What happened?

Misha was so scared that he couldn't mutter a word. He trembled as he moved away from the control panel.

The butler panicked, silently cursing at Misha.

"I-I… It was an accident', Misha tried to defend, but Nuit's expression was black.

"Don't touch anything else,' Nuit groaned in annoyance. "I need to land the hovercraft back on the ground. It's almost ten minutes, and they are not here yet.

Nuit was visibly worried about the changing weather and the constant screams coming from outside the mansion's gate.

'What's the hold up?' Nuit thought worriedly as he fiddled with the control panel. The hovercraft slowly goes back down to the ground. At the same time, Bram appeared with Asier behind him. Both kept a detached expression as they entered the hovercraft.

Crowds of humans banged at the mansion gate with all the ferocity fueled by the instincts for survival. No matter how strongly they banged, pushed, and shoved, they still couldn't make it to the black hovercraft at the center of the mansion.

Suddenly, people desperately trying to survive were climbing over the fence's stronghold, using their powers to breach the security checkpoint.

Still, Bram couldn't care less about those unfortunate souls struggling to get to the hovercraft.

Misha swallowed thickly as he watched from the window. The Crokun was already dropping from the sky.

His Papa wanted to leave him here? To end up like this, pity people fighting to survive?'

Misha felt hurt and weak when he thought of this. He understood that his Papa might not value him, but to think of abandoning him here. It made his heart ache and his body tremble.

"I saw this hover suspended in the air, care to tell me what was running through your dirty mind?' Bram asked coldly as he took control of the panel, ready to deploy.

Nuit knew he was talking to him. Considering that Bram always suspected him of any dirty schemes, he smirked as a response.

Misha was deeply worried that Nuit would tell on him; surprisingly, the man kept mum.

"Seatbelt, everyone,' Bram announced coldly. "Else you turn into minced meat.

Misha fumbles as he clumsily tries to grab onto the seatbelt, not knowing what to do.

"Haven't boarded a craft before?' A small, nonchalant voice came from the front.

Startled, Misha looked up. All the resentment he had for Asier almost erupted within him. Yet he kept his cool.

Misha ignores him as he continues to drag the seatbelt with difficulty.

Asier raised an eyebrow. He watched as Misha struggled to fix it in the seatbelt.

"Let me help,' Nuit came to his rescue while giving Asier a side-long glance.

Asier stared at him; his silver eyes filled with curiosity.

"I have seen you before,' Asier stated calmly.

Nuit turned to him after fixing Misha's seatbelt. "Is that so?' I wonder where that was.

"At the Bratva clan,' Asier ruthlessly answered.

Nuit stiffened, his face turned pale. Misha was already nervous at the suffocating tension between Asier and Nuit.

The hovercraft shook tensely, pushing Nuit back with force.

"Uncle!!,' Misha yelled in panic.

"Dammit, Bram,' Nuit growled. "Are you trying to kill me?'

They were now out of the Azran orbit. Floating asteroids float past them.

Looking from the window, the Azran planet was being swallowed up by the Crokun.

It was spreading like a virus, pulsing with black veins that beat within its repulsive form. Gently, the planet was being swallowed up.

Misha secretly sneaked a peek at Bram. 'This time I survived, Papa. I will make you pay for all my demise.
