Daniel turned toward the crowd.
"You're all blaming the wrong person."
Then he pointed directly at Nora.
My sister.
"She started everything."
Nora's face went pale.
"Shut up," she snapped.
Daniel smiled.
"Oh, now you're scared?"
The room was silent.
Then he dropped the biggest shock yet.
"She came to me first."
My heart skipped.
"What?" I whispered.
Daniel nodded.
"She told me about the inheritance."
My stomach twisted.
"And she suggested we marry you."
The room gasped.
I couldn't breathe.
My own sister planned my marriage?
For money?
Nora looked furious.
"You're lying."
Daniel laughed again.
"Am I?"
Then he said something that destroyed the last piece of my world.
"She hated you long before I met you."
