Evelyn's POV
"We have to go back for her." I'm shaking in the car, watching Dad's house disappear behind us. "We can't leave Sophia there."
"We go back now, they'll take you too." Damien's voice is hard. "We need leverage first."
"Leverage? My best friend is in there with a madman!"
"Which is why we need something to trade." He pulls out his phone. "James, did Sophia's contact confirm?"
"Yes sir. Dr. Rebecca Lin agreed to meet. But only for thirty minutes. She's scared."
My brain catches up. "Sophia set up a meeting?"
"Before she got taken. She found the researcher who tried to blow the whistle three years ago." Damien looks at me. "Rebecca Lin worked for your father. Knows everything about Project Transfer. If we get her testimony, we have proof. Real proof we can use to destroy him and get Sophia back."
Hope flickers in my chest. "Where is she?"
"Some motel in Queens. Hiding. She thinks your father will kill her if he finds out she's talking."
