Isla's POV
Two days.
She'd been avoiding Cassian for two days, and the safe house had somehow become a prison.
Isla spent most of her time in the garden, sitting under trees while the baby kicked inside her. The silver light had faded from her arms, which was either a good sign or a terrible one. She couldn't decide which. Everything felt uncertain now. Everything felt like it could shatter at any moment.
Kaia found her on the afternoon of the second day, sitting by the fountain with her feet in the water.
"You look like someone processing a philosophical crisis," Kaia said, dropping down beside her with zero grace. "Which means we're about to have a conversation you don't want to have."
"I'm fine," Isla said automatically.
"You're avoiding the man who's been in love with you since before you met him, and you're sitting alone in a garden looking like the world ended. You're not fine," Kaia said bluntly. "You're confused. There's a difference."
