Marcus woke up from his bed at six o'clock in the morning. Although there was no clock in the room, he could tell he woke up at that exact time. It had been like that for years. His body just knew.
He lay there for a moment, staring at the ceiling.
The room was quiet.
No noise from outside.
No footsteps in the hallway.
Even the city, which had been lively the night before, felt distant at this hour.
As much as he wanted to get up, he couldn't. The bed felt too good.
The mattress had just the right firmness, soft enough to sink into but still holding his weight. The blanket was warm without being heavy, and the pillow supported his head in a way that made it hard to move at all.
Marcus let out a quiet breath and shifted slightly, pulling the blanket closer.
"…Yeah, this is dangerous," he muttered.
He hadn't slept like this in a while.
