The drive to Clearwater Bay took nearly five hours.
By the time Alexander Hale and Elena Hale reached the town, the sun was already low over the ocean.
Clearwater Bay was quiet.
Small.
Nothing like the powerful corporate world of Hale Enterprises.
Fishing boats rocked gently in the harbor, and a salty breeze moved through the narrow streets lined with old houses and small cafés.
Elena looked out the window as Alexander parked the car near the waterfront.
"This place feels peaceful," she said softly.
Alexander nodded.
"Which is probably why someone hiding from the past would choose it."
Elena glanced at him.
"You think Victor Langford has been hiding all these years?"
Alexander opened the car door.
"If he helped cover up the truth about that accident…"
He paused.
"…then disappearing would make sense."
They stepped out of the car.
Alexander checked the address his research team had sent earlier that morning.
A small white house near the edge of town.
Only a few blocks away.
The walk there was quiet.
Elena noticed how different Alexander seemed outside the city. He was still focused, but the tension around him had softened slightly.
After several minutes, they reached the address.
The house was modest.
A wooden porch.
A small garden.
Wind chimes moving gently in the breeze.
Elena looked at the name on the mailbox.
"Langford."
Alexander stepped onto the porch and knocked.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then footsteps approached from inside.
The door opened slowly.
An older man stood there.
His hair was gray now, and his posture slightly bent with age, but his eyes were sharp.
Alexander spoke first.
"Victor Langford?"
The man looked at them carefully.
"Yes."
Alexander took a slow breath.
"My name is Alexander Hale."
For a brief moment—
Victor Langford froze.
Recognition flashed across his face.
"Richard Hale's son."
Alexander nodded.
"Yes."
Victor looked past him at Elena, then back at Alexander again.
"I wondered if this day would come."
Elena blinked.
"You knew someone would find you?"
Victor sighed and opened the door wider.
"Come inside."
They stepped into the small living room.
Old engineering books filled the shelves.
Newspaper clippings were neatly arranged on a table.
Victor motioned for them to sit.
"I assume you're here because of the accident."
Alexander didn't waste time.
"Yes."
Victor nodded slowly.
"I've been waiting twenty-five years for someone to ask the right questions."
Elena leaned forward.
"Then tell us the truth."
Victor looked at Alexander for a long moment.
"Your father didn't destroy Daniel Vance."
Alexander's chest tightened.
"What happened?"
Victor exhaled heavily.
"That project was sabotaged."
The room went silent.
Elena frowned.
"Sabotaged?"
Victor nodded.
"The steel Daniel supplied was perfectly safe."
Alexander felt his heart pounding.
"Then why did the structure collapse?"
Victor's voice lowered.
"Because someone altered the design without authorization."
Alexander remembered the report.
"But the documents say you approved the change."
Victor laughed bitterly.
"That's the lie."
Elena's eyes widened.
"You're saying your signature was forged?"
Victor nodded slowly.
"Yes."
Alexander leaned forward.
"Then who did it?"
Victor's face grew serious.
"I never proved it…"
He paused.
"But I always believed it was someone inside the company."
Alexander's stomach tightened.
"Inside Hale Enterprises?"
Victor shook his head.
"No."
His eyes darkened.
"Inside Daniel Vance's investor group."
Elena blinked in shock.
"You mean someone betrayed Daniel?"
Victor nodded.
"Yes."
Alexander's voice became quieter.
"Do you know who?"
Victor looked at him carefully.
"There was one man who benefited the most after the accident."
Alexander waited.
Victor finally said the name.
"Marcus Vance's uncle."
The room fell silent again.
Elena looked at Alexander in disbelief.
"Marcus has been blaming the wrong person."
Alexander's expression hardened slowly.
"Yes."
Across the city, in his penthouse office, Marcus Vance stood in front of several reporters.
A press conference had just begun.
Documents were spread across the table.
"Today," Marcus announced confidently, "I will finally reveal the truth about the Hale family."
But hundreds of miles away—
Alexander Hale had just learned the truth Marcus had never discovered.
And if Alexander didn't return to the city soon—
Marcus was about to expose a lie to the entire world.
