The world crashed to a stop when we all turned to see the box open.
"She knew the password." Shock colored even Karn's growl.
"No shit." But even in my head, I was left gasping and grappling with the fact that Aurora had just turned the situation around in under ten seconds.
Zayne's astonishment was the first to wear off as he took a careful step towards the now open box. His body coiled for attack and retreat while he drew closer.
I rose quickly, apprehension prickling my skin.
"What if it is something precious? What if it belongs to Aurora and Zayne takes it like he took her tears?" My thoughts muddled with growing jealousy.
So I pushed, putting Aurora behind me, shielding her with my back as I followed Zayne to the box.
We both peeked in at the same time to find… more mundane things. A strange pen, and a rolled-up old parchment that was unlike any piece of paper I had ever seen.
