"That's how negotiations go, sweetheart. Unless…" he tugged her closer, his gaze dropping to her lips. "You can bribe the mediator."
Feeling her heart flutter, she yanked her hand back at once. "Let's go to bed, Roe! Your daddy needs to sleep too."
Little Roe clung tighter to Azrael.
"But I want to sleep with Daddy like Mommy," he said defensively.
Valerie stuttered. "I wasn't sleeping with him, Roe!"
"She was," Azrael chipped in.
"Mommy lying!"
Valerie's face exploded red. "I am not—!"
She huffed, stomped out of the room with her pillow and comforter.
Azrael leaned back once Little Roe fell asleep in his arms. His fingers came up to trace his small brows, to his little button, then the lips he was pouting even in his sleep.
He didn't even realize he was smiling till his eyes fell on the mirror opposite him. He quickly averted his eyes.
Putting his Little spendthrift rabbit to bed, he walked to his window.
