"My lord, Lady Elara is here to see you," the guard who had gone inside to report to Lord Vealor announced.
"They always seem to like visiting at the dead of night," Vealor muttered irritably.
"And yet, when you listen to them, every one of their plans ends in failure. The last time Victor and his man was in this very room at this hour, I bet my daughter's life on that fool's stupidity.
Now he has died at the hands of a young girl who had only just manifested her powers. So much for betting on the wrong horse."
He scoffed before taking another sip of his liquor. "To think I even planned to kill that fool myself after he gave me what I wanted."
"Should I send her away, my lord?" the guard asked.
"Bring her in. Let me hear what foolish thing she has to say. Continuing our agreement with Adrian is already beginning to feel like a mistake, and I was planning to pull out of our arrangement anyway," Vealor said as he calmly sipped his liquor.
