When Elara left, Vealor finally had time to sit down and think.
Her words refused to leave his mind.
Was there really a prophecy, or was she simply playing with him? How had he never heard of such an important prophecy before? If it truly existed, then the King had gathered all of their daughters into the palace while never intending to make any of them his Luna.
The realization sent a chill through him.
No wonder his daughter had died because of another man's manipulation.
And now Adrian wanted to manipulate him too.
If Adrian could betray Elara after keeping her by his side for centuries, and if he could discard Victor the moment he was no longer useful, then there was no one Adrian would not betray.
Not even him.
Vealor leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping lightly against the armrest.
Sleep abandoned him completely.
His thoughts chased one another throughout the night, but they always returned to a single sentence.
"Don't you want to be king?"
