Lord Septimus announced the procedure, and Ryan smiled as he bent down a little to whisper something into Sophia's ear.
For some reason, Sophia felt as though she was cheating on Lucien by letting him get too close. She moved away slightly so Ryan's mouth would not come too close to her ear, trying to limit the proximity between them without drawing too much attention.
Ryan noticed the movement but chose to ignore it. "One day I would like to mark you in front of everyone," he whispered.
A chill ran down Sophia's spine. Her eyes immediately went back to the crowd, and when she saw Lucien's eyes fixed on her, fear gripped her. She knew that any minute he could jump onto the stage.
Sophia began shaking her head vigorously, the fear of what might happen to Lucien consuming her whole.
