Chapter 8 - The Fragile Art of Believing

Seth hadn't moved from his exhausted spot on the chair and didn't seem to want to for the time being as the other two entered the elevator. The glass doors stayed parted as the woman stared at the tall metal tube, taking a cautious step inside she jumped a bit as the doors closed.

" Don't like tight spaces?" Marshall asked. The woman shrugged as the elevators moving caused her to stand a bit sturdier. " No, I am just not used to magic like this, I also would prefer not to be cut in half again." She said matter of factly.

" I'm sorry, what did you say again?" Maives british accent coming in clearer than it has in a long time. He chuckles nervously hoping it was a phobia and nothing more. The woman turned and smiled mischievously, " yes again" her voice smoothing out to a more serious tone despite her smile.

The elevator opened up to a busy main floor of the organization, hallways stretched off the main circle making it seem like the building stretched wider than ever. Athanasia stopped to look at her reflection in the polished marble floor, scrunching her nose at the state of her attire.

Marshall noticed people slowing down to peek at the beautiful unknown woman. He couldn't blame them though, besides the annoying tickle in his brain couldn't help but make him aware of her. His body just seemed to naturally want to touch her but the rational side of his head was still in control.

Marshall started to walk in the direction of the woman's dressing area, while Maive started to stare at the woman who was following along. " if you must stare, at least go ahead and ask me all those questions that are obviously on the tip of your tongue." Athanasia said as her long white hair dragged on the floor behind her.

Maiven's eyes lit up like a child on their birthday surrounded by gifts. His red hair swaying with his excited motion. " how long were you in that coffin? How did you survive without anything to eat or drink?" He asks quickly almost getting tongue tied with the process.

" You said it was the year 2025 correct?" she pauses more for the eager face that Maive was giving her. " well I have been in there for about 4 or 5 centuries, possibly more, time does seem to blend when all you do is sleep." Maives eyes widened with the new information as he pulled a small notebook from the back pocket of his black crew pants.

Passing people still stared or paused their task as the three of them walked by and turned down one of the many branching hallways. Pictures of landscapes and old elders lined the walls as Maive couldn't help himself. " but how did you survive that long without anything? Even the vampire king needs blood to survive."

This earned a chuckle from the woman, causing Marshall to peak behind him for a moment from the sound. " that's where your research is wrong, my 'sibling' and I are not vampires, in human terms we are more like demi gods." she spoke intelligently. We feed off of life essence or anything with life in it, such as blood, souls or the body, but I prefer to live off of energy from humans more then their lives."

" His vampire creatures he created feed from blood only and shrivel up into mummies if they are left without it for too long because they themselves are not alive. Myself and Lucius are alive, we have beating hearts and working organs, just like all living things." she says as Maiven scribbles all of it down.

" Well what happens when you don't get life essence?" Marshall was the one to ask this time as he stopped walking. " early on it was hard, we would go on rampages and kill anything in sight but after time and practice, I have learned at least to resist that urge until absolutely necessary." she responds before looking up at the sign that read women only.

Marshall looks at her quizzically before motioning to the open doorway. " everyone should be at training right now so just grab a pair of extra clothes and meet us back here" he said but blocked the entrance for a moment. " don't try anything, we have alarms set everywhere for your kind " he warns before moving out of the way.

Maiven starts to follow Athanasia inside before he is tugged back by the collar of his shirt by Marshall. " awe come on, I have more questions for her" he whines before pouting and yanking Marshall's hand off.

" I don't care whether she is evil or not, men don't need to go into the women's changing room" Marshall glared at Maive. " when did you become such a traitor?" He asks leaning against the wall next to the open entrance. Maiven crossed his arms.

" look I value information and with her we could get a lot of info about her, Lucius and other supernaturals. She obviously isn't like Lucius so catch her a break and stop being such a meanie" Maive said causing Marshall to chuckle. " did you just say meanie? How old are you?"

Maive sighs, " look Marshall, I know you have a strong opinion about those creatures but we need to stay open minded if we want peace in the long run. She just might help us with that, and if not we take as much information as we can from her."

Marshall blows a raspberry as he leans against the wall. His past fights with similar creatures has led him to not trust any of them, they were capable of so much evil that there couldn't be enough good in them to make up for that. Though something about this new tingle in his head made him want to know more about the creature he just met.

" I know, I know, I just have never seen Solomon act so kind towards one of them before. I can't help a feeling that the elders know a lot more then they let on before I was sent on this mission." Marshall sighs loudly before both of the men see a glimmer of white hair walk back out into the hallway.
