Chapter 15 - The Announcement

Morning came heavy with tension.

Vale Enterprises was unusually quiet. The board members whispered behind closed doors. Security moved like shadows. The city outside glimmered, unaware of the storm brewing above.

Elara followed Adrian into the boardroom. The glass walls reflected both of them, sharp and deliberate, two pieces in a dangerous chess game.

He didn't speak at first. He walked straight to the center of the room, hands clasped behind his back. His posture was rigid. Controlled. Deadly.

Elara noticed the phone in his hand. A live broadcast was ready.

"Today," Adrian began, voice calm but resonant, "I address a matter that threatens both my family and this company."

The cameras in the room were for the employees, for the press, for social media streams that were already trending. He didn't flinch.

Elara's pulse quickened. This was bold—so public that Elijah could not ignore it.

"We are aware of irregular financial transfers tied to Ardent Holdings and Vale Enterprises subsidiaries," Adrian continued, eyes sweeping the room. "We are also aware of deliberate attempts to frame innocent individuals to cover corporate misconduct."

Murmurs rippled through the board. Elara could see Victor shifting slightly.

He paused. "I am taking full responsibility for investigating this matter. But let me be clear—anyone who attempts to manipulate, falsify, or compromise our integrity will be held accountable. No exceptions."

The cameras caught every word. The room was silent. Employees stared. Board members froze.

Elijah's name remained unspoken. But the implication was clear.

Elara leaned forward slightly. Her voice came out without planning.

"And for the record," she said softly, "I had no part in these transfers. But I have discovered evidence that points to deliberate corruption."

The room went colder. The press cameras swiveled toward her. Employees turned their heads. She met Adrian's eyes.

He gave her the tiniest nod. Not encouragement. Not approval. A warning: stay sharp.

Adrian resumed.

"We are cooperating with international regulators to audit all holdings. We will not allow anyone, even family, to compromise our company's ethics or safety. This includes executives who may have abused access to manipulate outcomes."

A subtle shift in the room: a few board members exchanged uneasy glances. The power dynamics were changing.

Elara felt a thrill of danger—and control. They had forced the game into daylight. Elijah could no longer strike from the shadows without being exposed.

The meeting ended. Cameras off. Phones silenced. The room emptied, leaving only Adrian and Elara.

"You just made him angry," she said quietly.

"Good," he replied, eyes dark. "Because now he's desperate."

She frowned. "Desperate is dangerous."

"Exactly," he said. "And desperate men make mistakes."

Elara smiled faintly, a mixture of fear and thrill. She realized something crucial: they weren't just surviving anymore. They were forcing the hand of the enemy.

But the danger had only just begun.

Outside, the city sparkled like nothing was happening. Inside, the war had officially gone public.

And now Elijah had no choice but to respond.
