Chapter 16 - Sabotage

The night was heavy with rain.

Vale Enterprises' headquarters, a glass and steel monolith, gleamed under the stormy sky. Inside, the building hummed with electricity, servers running, security systems online. But the calm was a lie.

Elara watched the monitors in the security room. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, eyes scanning camera feeds. Every door. Every corridor. Every elevator.

"Something's coming," she murmured.

Adrian leaned against the wall behind her, silent. He never raised his voice. He didn't need to. His presence was enough to make the employees tense.

"What makes you say that?" he asked quietly.

She pointed at the cameras. "Look at the south service entrance. Three figures, dressed as maintenance. Timing is perfect—synchronized with the building's low-security shift."

Adrian's jaw tightened. "Elijah."

Her pulse quickened. "He's testing us. Or worse—trying to hit the servers. If he disables communications or manipulates the data… the board will panic, and he can strike officially."

Adrian moved swiftly, checking his watch. "We have minutes."

South Entrance

The three figures approached. Two carried cases. One held a small device that beeped faintly.

Inside, Elara tapped into the building's sensors, mapping their every step.

"They're bypassing the first motion sensor," she said. "But the second one will trigger if they don't disable it manually."

Adrian didn't respond. He was already moving. In minutes, they would be inside the core of the building's security systems.

"Ready?" he whispered.

Elara nodded.

The maintenance crew reached the second checkpoint—a door leading directly to the server room. One of them began swiping a fake ID card. The door clicked open.

Adrian and Elara emerged from a hidden stairwell behind them.

Adrian's voice was soft, deadly. "Step away from the servers."

The intruders froze.

"Who are you?" one of them demanded, voice shaking.

Adrian didn't answer. He moved first, fast and precise, knocking the device from the nearest attacker's hand. Sparks flew.

Elara lunged at another, slamming him against the wall. The cases tumbled, tools scattering across the floor.

The third man tried to escape. Adrian caught him in one smooth motion, pinning him to the ground.

All three were immobilized before the building even realized they were inside.

Adrian's gaze swept the room. "Check the devices. See what he planned."

Elara examined the small device that had fallen. It wasn't just a timer. It was a signal jammer designed to shut down communications. The other cases contained plans, blueprints, and external hard drives.

"Elijah isn't just attacking legally," she whispered. "He's trying to destroy us."

Adrian's hands tightened into fists. "This is more than power. This is personal. And now he's shown his hand again."

Elara looked at him. The storm outside mirrored the tension between them. Their hearts raced—not just from adrenaline, but because every moment together in danger was electric.

Adrian stepped closer. "You stayed close," he said quietly.

She met his eyes, breath uneven. "Of course."

He tilted his head. "Good. Because the next time, he might not fail."

Outside, rain poured like a warning.

Inside, Vale Enterprises had survived—but just barely.

Elijah had made his first direct attack.

And now, the real war had begun.
