Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Exercise

However, saying this wasn't purely just to make the audience like her more. If she had the ability in the future, she would also do her best to change the ninja world and make it less cruel.

"Furina's dream is actually something like that?" After hearing Furina's explanation, Naruto suddenly felt that her dream seemed even more impressive than his own.

But that was about it. With his limited experience, whether it was becoming Hokage or changing the world, he had no deep understanding of either he could only feel that it sounded really amazing.

Sasuke was similar. Right now, he only cared about revenge and had no interest in anything else. Kakashi, however, was different from them.

Having carried out missions in the Anbu for many years, he was naturally well aware of the main themes of the ninja world: killing, hatred. Even when he was young, freshly graduated students had to go to the battlefield.

To turn such a ninja world into something beautiful, into the way one hoped it could be this kind of dream was countless times harder than becoming Hokage.

He didn't know whether he should call his student arrogant and conceited, or say she had lofty ambitions. Sigh.

"If you really want to achieve a dream like that, you'll have to train hard, Furina."

Although in his heart he didn't believe Furina's dream had any chance of coming true, Kakashi had no intention of discouraging her. Instead, he encouraged her in return.

After all, she had spoken up for him in the classroom earlier, so naturally he should act like a proper teacher.

"Of course, Kakashi-sensei. I'll do my best."

Facing Kakashi's encouragement, Furina readily agreed. However, the main direction of her "effort" was quite different from what he imagined it was mostly about adding points.

"Alright, since the self-introductions are pretty much done, let's get to the main topic. There's one more thing I need to tell you."

Immediately after, Kakashi began intimidating the three of them: graduating from the ninja academy only meant you had the talent to be a ninja, there was a 66% elimination rate, and so on. If you didn't know the truth, it did sound quite frightening.

For example, Naruto and Sasuke sitting nearby their faces instantly turned ugly after hearing Kakashi's words, which made Furina secretly amused inside.

She knew the plot, so naturally she wasn't worried about this. After all, people like Naruto and Sasuke only needed to feel anxious and afraid, but for her who needed to be liked by even more people there were far more things to consider.

"So, tomorrow morning at 5 o'clock sharp, gather at the training ground. I'll give you a heads-up in advance: don't eat breakfast, or you'll throw up."

After saying that, Kakashi didn't give them a chance to ask more questions. He waved his hand and quickly left.

"Although Kakashi-sensei just told us to gather at the training ground bright and early, based on his previous behavior of showing up late, he probably won't arrive on time. So just a reminder you don't need to go too early~"

After subtly hinting to the two that Kakashi would stand them up and they didn't need to rush over too soon, Furina turned to leave. But before she could take more than a few steps, Naruto called out to her.

"But what if Kakashi-sensei doesn't show up late this time? Wouldn't we be screwed then, Furina?"

"Yeah, I still have my own ambitions to fulfill. I absolutely can't be sent back to the ninja academy."

Hearing this, Sasuke chimed in from the side. Although he didn't say it outright, he clearly agreed with Naruto's thinking.

"Then that's up to you guys. Didn't I say it was just a suggestion~?"

Seeing that the two hadn't taken her hint, Furina didn't force the issue. After all, their worries made sense. She couldn't exactly tell them outright that she knew Kakashi would definitely be late tomorrow that would be impossible to explain.

After Furina left as well, Naruto and Sasuke exchanged a glance and read the same thought in each other's eyes.

They would still go at 5 o'clock tomorrow morning as Kakashi said and they wouldn't eat breakfast.

...

"Yawn~ The weather's really nice today."

Since she knew Kakashi's tricks, Furina naturally wasn't going to foolishly head over at the crack of dawn. After sleeping in naturally and having breakfast, she leisurely made her way to the training ground.

Just as she had guessed, Kakashi still hadn't arrived. Only Naruto and Sasuke were there waiting bitterly, and their condition clearly wasn't great.

"I told you guys earlier, right? You just wouldn't listen. Now look at you tough luck. Here, eat this first. Don't let hunger mess you up during the test later."

As she spoke, Furina handed the bag in her hand to the two of them. Knowing they would probably be honest enough to skip breakfast and rush over early, she had bought a few onigiri while eating her own breakfast, just in case they got so hungry they couldn't even fight properly later.

"Didn't I tell you not to eat? But whatever, it doesn't matter. Alright survival exercise, starting now."

Not long after Furina arrived, Kakashi showed up right on the dot. As soon as he got there, he immediately announced the start of the assessment.

"Tch, Kakashi-sensei, what are you doing? You're already late, and now that we're in the middle of eating, you just start? Can't you at least wait until we finish?"

"Haha, that's because I got lost on the path of life on my way here, so I was a bit late. As for eating, you can take your time.

But you have until 12 o'clock to snatch the bells from me. Anyone who doesn't get a bell will go back to the academy for a redo."

As he spoke, Kakashi pulled out an alarm clock from who-knows-where, set it to 12 o'clock, and placed it on a nearby wooden post. Then he looked at them leisurely, not in a hurry at all.

Hearing this, Naruto and Sasuke noticeably sped up their eating. Kakashi's words had clearly put a lot of pressure on them.

"Hmph, Kakashi only brought two bells. That means at least one person has to go back for a redo. No way I absolutely can't go back. I have to get a bell."

After mentally analyzing the general situation, Sasuke swallowed the last bit of onigiri and prepared to call Furina and Naruto over to discuss a strategy.

After all, no matter what, Kakashi was a jōnin. Even with all his confidence, he didn't think he could snatch something from Kakashi all by himself.

"Discuss a strategy? I'm pretty good with large-scale Water Release ninjutsu, so individual combat suits me better. If we're cooperating, I can provide long-range support. You can decide the specific plan."

"Specializes in Water Release, long-range support? Got it."

Sasuke subconsciously ignored words like "large-scale" and "individual combat" in Furina's introduction. In his view, at their age, how large could someone's ninjutsu range possibly be?

Saying she was suited for individual combat was it because her range was so big it might affect them? How could that be possible! To Sasuke, Furina was just saying that to make herself sound better.
