Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Decision

And the other party was probably vaguely aware of this as well. Yet they still issued it as a C-rank mission. If the team that took this mission hadn't been Team 7 but some weaker squad, it could only be described as extremely dangerous more bad luck than good.

Of course, while she was complaining, Furina didn't actually feel much dissatisfaction in her heart. Due to economic constraints, Tazuna or rather, the common people of the Land of Waves could only afford to pay the price of a C-rank mission. Even that was already them doing their absolute best.

As for explaining the situation and directly asking Konoha Village for help? That would truly be the end. Furina didn't believe Konoha would provide assistance for free.

In this world, many things couldn't simply be judged as right or wrong. If there was anything truly wrong, it was this damn world itself one that forced ordinary people to seek a sliver of hope only through deception. She didn't like a world like this.

While Furina was lost in her various thoughts, Kakashi had finished gathering the mission details from Tazuna. Team 7's first high-level mission thus officially began.

"Haah, this is so boring. Nothing's happened on the whole road it's dead dull."

"Isn't it a good thing that nothing's happened? Or are you actually hoping someone will attack us, Naruto?"

Furina glanced at the two somewhat out-of-place puddles ahead, subtly shook her head, and then as if she hadn't noticed anything continued walking forward while teasing Naruto.

"Since those two have shown up, Zabuza probably isn't far away either."

At that moment, the group reached the edge of the two suspicious puddles. Suddenly, something unusual happened two figures burst out from the puddles and simultaneously attacked Kakashi. The weapons in their hands instantly bound him, and with a sharp pull

"First one down."

After sensing that the adult ninja who seemed to be the strongest had been taken care of, the two grinned widely at the same time. The biggest threat was dealt with; everything else would be easy now.

But before they could gloat for long, in the next instant, two Water Dragon Bullets shot toward them simultaneously. Cold sweat instantly poured down their backs. At the very last moment, they barely managed to dodge only for the Water Dragon Bullets to turn around and come rushing at them again.

"Nani?!"

This time, however, their luck had run out. Both were struck by the Water Dragon Bullets and sent flying backward, carried along until they crashed into a massive tree and finally came to a stop.

When everyone looked again, the two bodies were already mangled beyond recognition clearly dead beyond any doubt.

After delivering a finishing blow to confirm they were indeed the real bodies, Furina finally relaxed. At the same time, she scanned the surroundings but couldn't spot Kakashi anywhere, and she couldn't help but inwardly complain about his bad sense of humor.

"Kakashi-sensei… he couldn't really be dead, right?" Looking at Kakashi's "corpse," Naruto showed a worried expression. Clearly, he hadn't considered the possibility that Kakashi might be faking his death to mess with them.

"What are you saying, you idiot? Kakashi is a jōnin how could he die from such a simple attack?"

Seeing Furina just smirking off to the side with no intention of explaining, Sasuke while rubbing his forehead in exasperation could only explain it himself.

"Ohhh, right! I knew it someone as strong as Kakashi-sensei couldn't possibly die so easily!"

Once Naruto also realized what was going on, Kakashi's "corpse" turned into a wooden log. At the same time, Kakashi walked out from the other side of the bushes with a bored expression, as if the two attackers earlier hadn't affected him in the slightest.

"From their performance just now, they were probably two chūnin."

After Kakashi walked over to her side, Furina suddenly spoke up. While Naruto was still trying to figure out what she meant, Kakashi repeated it as well, then turned his gaze toward their client for this mission Tazuna.

"Yeah, two chūnin. This is already far beyond the scope of a C-rank mission. Tazuna-san, do you have anything to say about this?"

Facing Kakashi's scrutinizing look, Tazuna knew that if he didn't tell the truth, the other party probably wouldn't continue the mission. So he laid out the full details of the trip.

Everyone now knew exactly who wanted Tazuna dead: Gato, the big businessman of the Land of Waves. As one of the world's foremost tycoons with money to burn, the ninja he sent next would only be stronger and much stronger.

"If we continue the mission, there's a high chance we'll encounter jōnin-level opponents. This already far exceeds C-rank standards. As your captain, for safety reasons, my recommendation is to abandon it. But we're a team, so the final decision depends on what you all think."

Kakashi's meaning was simple: his suggestion was to give up. However, Furina and the other two were also team members and had the right to vote so majority rules.

"Of course we have to keep protecting Tazuna-oji-san and get him back to the Land of Waves to finish the bridge! Didn't you hear how badly that guy named Gato has messed up the people there? If we abandon them too, won't they have no hope left at all?"

After hearing Naruto's words, Sasuke's eyes flickered unconsciously. Clearly, he had taken Naruto's words to heart though what Kakashi said also…

"Whatever. I abstain I'm not participating. Whether you give up or continue, I'm fine with either."

With Sasuke abstaining, the direction of the mission ultimately fell to Furina. At this moment, everyone's eyes turned toward her, waiting for her next choice.

Especially Tazuna the hope of the Land of Waves now rested entirely on Furina's decision.

"To be honest, Tazuna-oji-san, I really don't like the way you spoke earlier with that subtle moral blackmail saying that if the people of the Land of Waves die, it'll all be our fault. Gato is clearly the real culprit behind everything. I genuinely dislike that kind of talk."

As soon as Furina opened her mouth, the hopeful look in Tazuna's eyes instantly turned to despair. If she really decided to abandon the mission because of his earlier inappropriate words, then he would truly become a sinner of the Land of Waves.

But just as he felt suffocated by the thought, Furina's next words made him breathe a sigh of relief.

"However, I can also understand. The reason you said that was mostly out of fear that we would abandon the mission, the bridge would never be finished, Gato would monopolize trade, and the people of the Land of Waves would be finished for good."

At this point, Furina turned her head toward Kakashi nearby and asked with a smile.

"By the way, Kakashi-sensei do you remember what I said my dream was when we were introducing ourselves to each other back then?"
