Chapter 145 - Chapter 145: Encounter with Roxy’s Former Teammate

Dan Feng watched the ghosts continuously rushing into the range of the Heavy Abyss Pearl's golden light, gaining a new understanding of the ghosts in this world.

Hm… they're masochists—no, that's not right! They probably have no consciousness at all, more like mere projections.

"Roxy, let's keep going deeper. Since there are so many ghosts here, it probably means no one has successfully explored this floor yet," Dan Feng said as he took Roxy's hand and continued walking inward.

"Other adventurers probably don't know Divine Strike magic, so they might have just taken one look at the ghosts and run away," Roxy guessed.

Afterward, the two wandered around the fourth floor and actually found an unopened treasure chest.

When they opened it, the contents left Dan Feng and Roxy somewhat dumbfounded.

Because inside were only some rusted iron implements.

Dan Feng slowly picked one up and examined it carefully. In labyrinths, metal items were almost always magically enchanted objects, and using them could produce unexpected effects.

Sure enough, after Dan Feng infused a trace of mana into it, the iron implement emitted a faint blue glow.

Immediately afterward, frost began forming on its surface.

"Dan Feng, it's a magically enchanted item!" Roxy said in pleasant surprise as she looked at the chest full of them.

The abilities of magically enchanted items are random—some good, some bad. They're slightly inferior to controllable magic tools, and some even have a limited number of uses.

People who buy magically enchanted items are usually those without much money who want to gamble on getting a good ability.

"It looks like this enchanted item's effect is freezing. What a terrible ability," Dan Feng commented expressionlessly as he evaluated the iron implement.

Afterward, Dan Feng and Roxy checked the abilities of all the enchanted items. Apart from one iron piece that increased the user's movement speed, there weren't any particularly good ones.

"Let's put these away for now. They're still magically enchanted items—at least we can sell them for some money later."

Hearing Dan Feng's words, Roxy decisively stored all the enchanted items into her storage scroll.

After that, the two continued wandering around but found no more treasure chests.

They then prepared to leave. The ghosts on this floor had all been eradicated by the golden light from the Heavy Abyss Pearl and would take a long time to fully regenerate.

By the time Dan Feng and Roxy returned to the surface, it was already close to noon—lunchtime.

Dan Feng and Roxy decided to head back to Wind Port for lunch first, stay one more night, and then set off toward Rikarisu Town the next day.

When they boarded the riding lizard again, Roxy's gaze was suddenly drawn to the place where her former captain had died.

She looked closely and spotted a very familiar figure.

Since the distance wasn't too great, Roxy could clearly make out the person's appearance.

"Wait a moment!" Just as the riding lizard's driver was about to urge the lizard forward, Roxy hurriedly called out.

The driver stopped at the sound, turned his head, and looked at Roxy with slight puzzlement, as if asking what else she needed to handle.

"What's wrong?" Dan Feng asked, feeling a trace of confusion when he saw Roxy stop them so abruptly.

"Dan Feng, I saw someone familiar!" Roxy's voice was somewhat urgent. As she spoke, she pointed toward the pile of rubble.

Following the direction of her finger, Dan Feng indeed saw a fat pig-headed demon standing there.

Before her words even finished, Roxy unhesitatingly pulled Dan Feng and leaped off the riding lizard, rushing toward that direction.

Seeing this, the driver had no choice but to let the riding lizard wait on the spot, secretly wondering what was going on with these two.

"Brez!" Roxy shouted toward that place.

She still cared quite a bit about her former adventurer party teammates. Without them, Roxy might still be adventuring alone on the Demon Continent right now.

The pig-headed demon heard the familiar voice and thought he was hallucinating from missing Drew too much. He stood in front of the huge rock, tears of pain streaming down his face.

"Drew, the days after you left have been really hard for me. Even though I come to visit you every once in a while, how could you leave so carelessly?"

"You always said you wanted to become the strongest adventurer in the world. I believed you would succeed, but how could you leave first?"

Brez said while sobbing uncontrollably, his voice trembling.

"After you were gone, the people in the tribe still looked down on me. Even after I became an adventurer, it couldn't change my cowardly nature without you around."

"After you left, Nokubara went back to Rikarisu Town, and Roxy disappeared without a trace."

"I miss you so much. Do you remember the days we adventured together?"

Just like that, Brez talked to himself in front of the giant rock, completely unaware that Roxy and Dan Feng had approached.

Hearing what Brez said, Roxy couldn't help but feel a trace of regret for Drew in her heart.

"Brez." Roxy called out to him from behind.

Hearing that familiar voice again, Brez whipped his head around this time and discovered Roxy and Dan Feng standing behind him at some point.

Seeing Brez's tear-streaked face, Roxy felt a pang in her heart.

In their adventurer party, Drew and Brez had the closest relationship—they were the kind who could share the same pair of pants.

"Roxy?" Brez's originally blurred eyes suddenly became clear the moment he saw that head of water-blue hair.

Then, hearing that familiar voice again, he finally confirmed that the person calling his name was indeed Roxy, who had been missing for so many years.

"It's me." Roxy nodded with a smile, then looked around with a puzzled expression. "Why are you here alone? Where's Nokubara?"

Hearing this question, tears welled up in Brez's eyes again.

He choked out, "That guy… he's already forgotten all of us…"

Seeing this, Roxy's heart filled with confusion. She quickly pressed, "What happened?"

Brez held back his grief and told Roxy everything about how he had gone to Rikarisu Town to find Nokubara, especially emphasizing Nokubara's cold attitude toward him.

"That guy even said… since Drew is already dead, the party is disbanded. Everyone go back to their own homes, find their own moms…" Brez said while sobbing nonstop, as if the whole world had collapsed.

This demon who once served as the tank in their party now looked so fragile and vulnerable.

Only when Drew was around did he become incomparably strong.

"Something like that actually happened?!" Roxy couldn't believe it. It was hard to accept that a former comrade who had faced life and death together could be so heartless.
