"Do I… know you? Who are you?"
Genbu Akimichi was utterly confused. He had no memory of ever meeting Mito Uzumaki before.
"Don't be so surprised," said the woman calmly. "I am Mito Uzumaki, the grandmother of Tsunade. The Third Hokage mentioned you to me, and I have known your mother for a long time. It's late now—go home first. If you ever want to ask about your mother, you may come see me anytime."
Genbu nodded respectfully, bowed, and left the courtyard.
Back at home, he lay on his bed, replaying the events of the day. "What a busy day…"
Reflecting on Mito's words, he fell into deep thought. "The tree wants to rest, yet the wind refuses to stop. With my identity… wherever I go, I always stir up trouble."
He had been different since birth—not only because he was a time traveler.
His mother, Rin, had been born into the Uchiha clan. But in the Uchiha world, where strength and talent were everything, Rin had no natural aptitude for ninjutsu. She was frail, her chakra barely reaching the level of a Genin. All her life, she had studied the Uchiha clan's pride—the Sharingan—but she had never awakened it.
She became known as the shame of the Uchiha. Aside from Uchiha Kagami, no one in the clan respected her.
By chance, she met Toudou Akimichi, heir of the Akimichi clan, and quickly fell in love.
However, their union was vehemently opposed by the Uchiha. They even threatened to kill Rin and Toudou to protect the clan's honor.
The incident nearly sparked a war between the Sarutobi, Inuzuka, and Uchiha clans, catching the attention of the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama.
To prevent bloodshed, Tobirama established the Konoha Guard, assigning the Uchiha to oversee it, granting them surveillance authority over the entire village.
The Uchiha were given a designated settlement alongside a prison, gaining official control over monitoring and guarding prisoners.
Thus, the Uchiha became Konoha's de facto police force.
Tobirama agreed to the Uchiha's requests, appointing Uchiha Kagami as the ANBU leader, with all team members from the Uchiha clan. Ultimately, the clan reluctantly allowed Toudou Akimichi and Uchiha Rin to marry.
This incident cemented the Uchiha's power in Konoha—but they were unaware that Tobirama's true intention was to place the entire clan under strict surveillance.
Still, the arrogant Uchiha made one strict demand: if an Akimichi ever awakened a Sharingan, they would have to join the Uchiha unconditionally.
And so, Toudou Akimichi and Uchiha Rin navigated a perilous path together.
Twenty years after Konoha's founding, Tobirama formed an alliance with the Second Raikage, Ao Shigure, to end ongoing conflicts. Yet the Raikage's subordinates, Kinko and Ginko, rebelled, killing the Raikage. To cover Tobirama's retreat, Toudou Akimichi was slain by Kinko.
Hearing the news of Toudou's death, Rin—pregnant at the time—miscarried and prematurely gave birth to Akimichi Genbu.
Tragically, Rin, frail as ever, passed away three days after Genbu's birth.
On that very day, in another world, a 21-year-old biochemistry PhD student from Blue Star, Chen Genbu, finished his experiments and went for a walk on campus. A sudden flash of lightning inexplicably transported his consciousness into the newborn Akimichi Genbu's body.
The soul of Chen Genbu merged with the infant Akimichi Genbu's fragile consciousness. With almost no self-awareness, the original Genbu's mind was easily absorbed, making Chen Genbu the new occupant of his body. Fifteen years had passed since that fateful event.
Today, Genbu was graduating from the Ninja Academy—a feat made possible by the Uchiha's contributions. His two close friends had also studied for three extra years to accompany him.
Lying on his bed, Genbu suddenly sat up, walked to the basement entrance, and opened the seal. He stepped inside.
The basement wasn't really a basement—it was more of an underground facility, entirely hollowed out and filled with equipment for experiments. Several figures in white lab coats were observing an instrument. As Genbu approached, they all turned to face him. He realized… they all looked exactly like him. These were his Shadow Clones.
He had come because one of his clones had reported a change that needed to be undone.
"Boss," said Clone #1, "we finally got the full genome sequencer. From now on, we can monitor gene edits, syntheses, and mutations. We can finally move to the next stage."
"Not bad… not bad at all. It took me four years to pull this off," Genbu said with satisfaction.
While the military power of the Ninja World was immense, its technological level lagged far behind. Unlike in Naruto's later era, where tech advanced explosively, today's world had barely decent screens, let alone genome sequencers. Chen Genbu had had to invent equipment himself just to survive.
Fortunately, this world had a foundation in programming and instrument theory. Combined with the clones' rapid-learning abilities and his prior expertise, a variety of gene-engineering devices were developed ahead of schedule. The genome sequencer was the final crucial piece—and it was finally operational.
"Everyone, rest tonight. Tomorrow, we resume work," Genbu said, though he was bluffing to let the clones relax.
"Awesome!!!" The clones instantly dissolved themselves.
Genbu was suddenly flooded with information, almost fainting.
"Shadow Clones are useful, but they take too much time… that nearly killed me," he muttered.
Then he activated multiple Shadow Clones. Ten identical versions of himself appeared.
"Next, we divide the tasks. Five of you handle gene synthesis and extraction. Two alter chakra properties. Three train in taijutsu and ninjutsu. The remaining two stay with me for combat training."
Each clone carried out its role diligently. Genbu also took two clones to the surface training ground for specialized sparring sessions.
Why would he purposely let himself get hit? Did he have some illness causing self-harm?
Of course not. He wanted to experience one universal truth—what everyone has—the manifestation of willpower and dominance.
Do you really think Genbu would foolishly tank Tsunade's insane strength with his stomach? Or that he's indestructible without strategy? No. Every move was calculated.
