"Sir…" Rick tapped my shoulder gently, pulling me back to reality.
Only then did I regain myself quickly, blinking at the large conference screen where one of the department heads had just finished his presentation.
"Sir… what do you think about his follow-up discussion?" Rick asked, pointing to the screen. The entire room was silent, all eyes on me.
Damn it… I had been so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even realize I was still in the middle of a board meeting.
"Reschedule it…" I stated, my voice coming out colder than I intended. I stood up abruptly, the chair scraping loudly against the floor, and headed straight for the door without another word.
"Sir…" Rick called after me, his tone hesitant. "Is there anything you don't like about it so we…"
"Do you want it scrapped off at once?" I asked, stopping in the doorway. My words were sharp, edged with the frustration I couldn't contain. Rick swallowed hard and turned to the rest of the staff, shaking his head quickly.
