JASMINE
I woke up with a sudden jolt. My heart pounded hard against my ribs as I sat up in bed. The room was still dim, with early morning light just beginning to creep through the heavy curtains. Something felt deeply wrong. I moved slowly at first, expecting the familiar tightness of the neck brace around my throat and the dull ache in my body from the fall. But there was nothing.
But there was no pain, nor braces or even crutches waiting beside the bed. My body felt light and normal, as if the injuries from the rooftop incident had never happened.
I touched my neck with trembling fingers. The skin was smooth, with no bruising or soreness. The constant pain that had followed me for days had completely vanished.
