The sanctuary shook like the world itself was cracking open.
Lucien's voice echoed through the chamber — faint, distorted, but unmistakably furious.
"This isn't over."
Rylan pulled me closer, golden light flickering around him like a shield. Rowan and Kade stood on either side of us, both panting, both bloodied, both staring at the ceiling as new fractures split across the stone.
The Heart chamber pulsed with unstable magic. The altar's runes flickered, struggling to hold their glow.
Rylan whispered, "He's trying to collapse the sanctuary."
Rowan cursed. "Of course he is. Why fight us when he can just drop a mountain on our heads."
Kade growled, "We need to move."
Rylan shook his head. "We can't leave. Not yet."
I swallowed. "Why?"
He turned to me — and the fear in his eyes wasn't for himself.
It was for me.
"The seal isn't finished."
My breath caught. "What do you mean?"
Rylan cupped my face, his hands trembling. "You anchored the bond. You broke the curse. But the seal — the final protection — it needs one more thing."
The altar pulsed behind us.
"Complete the bond."
Rowan blinked. "What does that mean?"
Kade muttered, "I swear if it says 'sacrifice' again—"
The altar glowed brighter.
"Not sacrifice. Choice."
Rylan swallowed hard. "Lyra… the seal needs a vow."
I frowned. "A vow?"
He nodded. "A promise. A declaration. Something the moon can bind."
Rowan raised a brow. "Like a wedding vow?"
Rylan glared. "Not helping."
Kade snorted. "Actually, that's exactly what it sounds like."
Rylan ignored them, turning back to me. "Lyra… the moon needs to know we're united. That we're choosing each other. That we're not afraid."
The bond pulsed — warm, steady, certain.
I whispered, "I'm not afraid."
Rylan's breath hitched. "Then say it."
The sanctuary trembled again — harder this time. Dust rained from the ceiling. A massive crack split across the chamber, glowing with black shadow.
Lucien's voice hissed through the fissure.
"You cannot seal what I will break."
Rylan snarled, "Lyra — now."
I stepped toward the altar.
The runes brightened, swirling into a circle of silver light around my feet. Rylan stepped into the circle with me, his golden glow merging with my silver.
The bond surged — hot, electric, overwhelming.
The altar whispered.
"Speak your truth."
Rylan took my hands, his voice shaking. "Lyra… I choose you."
The bond pulsed — bright, fierce.
"I choose you," he repeated, louder. "Not because the moon marked us. Not because fate demands it. But because you are my equal. My strength. My future."
My chest tightened.
Rylan's voice softened. "I choose you in every world. In every life. In every version of myself."
The bond flared — golden and silver intertwining.
The altar pulsed.
"And you?"
I swallowed hard, tears burning my eyes.
"I choose you," I whispered.
Rylan's breath caught.
"I choose you," I said again, stronger. "Not because the bond pulls me. Not because the moon chose us. But because I choose you. Every day. Every night. Every moment."
The bond surged — hot, bright, unbreakable.
"I choose your strength," I whispered. "Your darkness. Your light. Your past. Your future. I choose all of you."
Rylan's eyes shone.
The altar flared.
"The seal is complete."
A blast of silver and gold erupted from the altar, shooting upward like a pillar of fire. It slammed into the ceiling, spreading across the cracks, sealing them with glowing runes.
Lucien screamed.
The shadows recoiled.
The sanctuary stabilized.
Rowan exhaled. "Holy hell."
Kade whispered, "They did it."
Rylan pulled me into his arms, burying his face in my hair. "Lyra… gods… you did it."
I shook my head. "We did it."
The bond pulsed — warm, steady, eternal.
But the moment of peace didn't last.
Because Lucien's voice returned — faint, distant, but still alive.
"You think a seal will stop me?"
Rylan stiffened.
Lucien hissed,
"I will tear the world apart to get to you."
The sanctuary trembled — not from collapse, but from the echo of his rage.
Rowan growled. "He's retreating."
Kade nodded. "But he's not gone."
Rylan pulled back, eyes burning gold. "He's regrouping. Preparing. He'll come again."
I swallowed. "Then we'll be ready."
Rylan cupped my cheek. "We will. Together."
The altar pulsed one final time.
"Leave. The sanctuary has given all it can."
The runes dimmed.
The chamber quieted.
The Heart fell still.
Rylan took my hand. "Let's go."
We climbed back toward the upper chambers, the sanctuary guiding us with faint silver light. When we reached the entrance, the doors opened on their own.
Moonshadow and Bloodfang wolves waited outside — battered, bloodied, but alive. They bowed their heads as we stepped out.
Rowan smirked. "Took you long enough."
Kade added, "We thought you died."
Rylan rolled his eyes. "Not today."
I looked at the wolves — at two packs united, at warriors who had fought for us, at a future that suddenly felt possible.
Rylan squeezed my hand. "Lyra… this is just the beginning."
I nodded. "I know."
He leaned closer, voice low. "Volume 3 is going to be hell."
I smiled. "Good. I'm ready."
The bond pulsed — warm, fierce, unbreakable.
Rylan whispered, "Let's go home."
And together — two packs, one bond, one destiny — we stepped into the moonlight.
