Chapter 23 - Mage Apprentice

Chapter 23: Mage Apprentice

"Ugh…"

Kyriaki pressed her palm against the floor and wiped away blood from nose with the back of her free hand. A grin widely blooming on her face.

Notifications were pouring down, just like a few hours ago at Atlas' Spellcasting & skill education class.

[Your reward will be moved to the temporary inventory]

"Oh! Finally!! A reward for all the bloodshed!!!" Kyriaki's eyes twinkled in a rare light. Her genuine happiness seemed to make her look like a true five year old human as she sat there while golden particles surrounded her like fireflies.

She summoned a piece of cake that was decorated with moonberries, which looked like the gothic version of strawberries with a fancy golden fork stabbed on it.

'But what the hell is a Fragment of a star? I got Essence of Cosmo before too. What am I supposed to do with those?' She frowned as she took a big bite of the cake.

Whether it was because she hated the taste of sweetness despite eating it or she was in a dilemma of what to do with her rewards, not even gods would know that.

Her fingers skipped all notifications and opened the temporary inventory while she took another bite from her cake with the same expression.

[Temporary inventory]

Kyriaki studied the strange material on her hand. It looked like a tiny Galaxy was formed on her palm. It looked visually stunning.

'A piece of the universe's purest energy? And also a main ingredient to make Divine Diamonds? Isn't that the steel Durandal made of?' Her golden eyebrows rose up in surprise. 'No wonder its rank cannot be measured.'

Kyriaki carefully placed the precious material back in the inventory, taking out her new reward.

[Fragment of a star

The Dragon Princess paused on the spot.

Then without a word, she put the material that looked like a big chunk of mystic topaz back in her inventory and blinked a few times.

"Wow…" She then muttered. "..I literally struck Divine Diamond?" She blinked again.

A God ranked material and a material that cannot be measured by the standards of this world was in her hands, and she can create even better material by combining those two with few others. Kyriaki exhaled sharply and shook off the light in her eyes.

"Anyway, System, show me my status window."

'Let's hide this fancy title. It sounds too grand for me.' She touched the title with an indifferent expression.

'It's totally useless.' She barely managed to hold back her sigh as she hid the title. Her title section now appeared to others as just an empty slot.

'Let's hide my abnormality too. I didn't do it before so that they can take notes that I'm not dangerous.'

Her abnormality; Stigma of Chaos activated the moment she awakened her elements and came back to her reality. And her emotion was set to "Caution". That was one of two pieces of information she got at the end of her awakening ceremony.

She heard she was a cautious person from Thanasios, and before even half an hour passed, it was set as her unconditional emotion. That meant Thanasios was probably true. The most emotion she used was Caution, that's why it was set as her weakness.

She was puzzled at that moment because she thought her emotion would be set as "Indifference". Nevertheless, the emotion she was bound to didn't feel too disadvantaged for her future plans.

"Strawberry cake, sweet hameun fake, ne mareun nal slowly, Saeokyeo nal badly~" She mummered a cheerful song that kind of felt distant as last she heard that kind of song was aeons ago. Nonetheless, she didn't forget to take another bite from her cake as she sang.

"Show me details about my authority. Last time I checked, it was under title effects so I couldn't see more details." Kyriaki pointed her fork at the golden screen.

[Ding] As a response, a new notification popped up right under her nose.

'Hmmm…I see. This one is OP.' She calmly thought as if she was identifying vegetables in a market.

'I have one unlocked sub-authority. The third authority is locked and the second was partly unlocked at the end of Awakening Ceremony. There are three more Sub authorities that I can't see yet. But judging by the hints, they'll either become visible or unlocked with my growth.'

Kyriaki didn't look disappointed. Nor was she impatient. She calmly analyzed her cards, her future plans and her decisions based on those.

'The problem is the rest of abilities…It says I'm forbidden from accessing even information about those. It seems useless. For now.' She nodded inwardly. Not in acknowledgment, but in clear recognition.

Recognition leads to acceptance, always.

'So I can use only half of my authority by the time that crazy war breaks out? Well, it doesn't matter. I wasn't expecting this kind of power in the first place anyway.'

Kyriaki's eyes landed on the Rank slot of each of her Sub authorities.

'My authority's rank cannot be measured. But my Sub-authorities are at the level of God, Semi-God and Deity ranks. Deity is the highest ranking a mortal can get, and I have two authorities above those limits. History tells me that even Thanasios had only reached Deity rank in this world for now.'

She rubbed her chin, taking the last bite of her cake.

'Well, the higher the ranking of a skill I have, the better my survival and success of my plans... and, ugh, this is too sweet, I don't know how Rio eats these things.'

Her nose wrinkled and she gazed at the empty plate, silently making an oath to never eat her own food again. Her analytic thought vanished like a defeated ghost.

"Ria!!!" Without a second passed, the door opened loudly and her one and only twin walked in with excited eyes.

'Ah, talking about the devil.'

Kyriaki smiled gently. "Yeah?"

"I did it! I did the Mage imprinting!!"

"Oh? It has only been 06 hours…aren't you catching up with Thanasios too fast?"

"Right? He also took 06 hours to finish his imprint. But he was able to finish his warrior imprint in that time frame as well, unlike me." For the first time since he entered the room, the light in his eyes dimmed.

'Ah no way, his tail and ears are dropping.' Kyriaki, who was looking at his invisible puppy tail and ears that she put on him in her imagination, hurriedly opened her mouth.

"Want to bet on something?"

"...a bet?" His invisible puppy ears twitched.

"Yep…by tomorrow morning, you'll have not only both imprints, but your first mage circle as well." Kyriaki patted his head as she slowly, deliberately uttered those words.

Her tone was far from jest, it held an unwavering trust deep inside.

"Wha-no way…" Kyrios' eyes widened like a full moon.

"Yes way, and not only that, you are going to form your warrior ring before our first class ends."

"Is-isn't that just like Thanasios?!"

"It is. Aren't you his chosen one anyway?"

Kyrios' eyes seemed like they would pop out at any moment.

"H-how did you…"

"Hmm? Just a guess? Anyway, wanna bet on that?" She grinned, taking her hand off of his soft hair with disappointment hidden beneath her gentle smile.

"I-I don't…" Kyrios stuttered, lowering his head as he clenched the hem of his shirt.

"I'll bet one pile of gold bars. How about it?" When Kyriaki offered an opinion-shaking amount of gold, Kyriosi paused.

"Where did you get that much?!" He exclaimed in surprise.

"Hmm? I bet on you getting the Dragon calendar right with Grandpa the day we came here." Kyriaki shrugged her shoulders and sat on the sofa nonchalantly.

"...you had a bet like that? No wonder you pointed out all the loopholes that day."

"But didn't you win two piles of Diamonds anyway?"

"Ahem…anyway! I'll do it!! I'm gonna bet on my two piles of Diamonds that I won't achieve any of the things you bet on!!!" Kyriaki extended his hands with blazing eyes.

"Good. It's a done deal." Kyriaki grabbed his hand and shook it, as if she was a boss of an infamous gang, making a deal with a drug dealer.

BANG!

The door to her room wide opened with a loud bang.

Swish!

Someone entered the room with the speed of light, startling Kyrios and giving Kyriaki a reason to frown.

"MY GOLDEN SUNFLOWER!!!"

"Sigh…why do all the men in my family like to brag into my room unannounced?" Kyriaki turned around, facing her Father while still holding Kyrios' soft and squishy hand.

"IS THAT TRUE?! IT ISN'T, RIGHT?! IT CAN'T BE THAT MY DAZZLING TREASURE HAD BECOME THE MASTER OF THAT DISGUSTING SWORD!!! I'LL—"

Elysium stood there, hair deshelved, eyes blood shot, chest falling up and down as if he had a seizure.

"Please stop your useless rampage or else I'm going to offer grandpa a kiss every morning for one hundred years, all the while not letting you brush my hair."

"Oh…Ahem- that-that's too cruel, don't you think my darling?" Elysium immediately calmed down, slumped his head, hands and even his shoulders as if he was carrying the weight of the whole world.

"I'd love that, should I beat you up until you scream, my dear son?"

"Gasp!!! Dad?! Don't scare me like that!!!"

Endymion, who appeared behind him out of the blue, offered him a deal with a bright and gentle smile on his lips. Elysium clenched his heart and jumped back very comically.

Kyrios couldn't help but giggle at the sight of father-son due having the time of their life. Kyriaki, on the other hand, held back a sigh as she crossed her arms.

"For your information, yes, I did become the master of that disgusting sword. If you want more details, please ask from Grandpa." Kyriaki gestured to Endymion with a nonchalant expression, summoning popcorn out of her smart watch inventory.

Because dragon family drama, which no one asked for, was about to begin once again.

"Oh my, my head.." Elysium grabbed his forehead, which was covered by his crown and staggered. His brilliant yellow diamond like eyes squinted as he glanced at Kyriaki and Endymion.

It looked like he had been hit in the head with a giant hammer, unable to keep his balance.

"...Ria" Witnessing this dramatic move that screamed 'Oh I'm so surprised, I'm so sad, I'm so pitiful', Endymion sighed a heavy sigh.

"We had a deal, didn't we? You have to keep your word grandpa."

"...I know. That's why I'm here." He pouted, then with another sigh, He turned to face Elysium.

"As a Professor, I am in favor of keeping Cadmus' Dragon Slayer in possession of Student Kyriaki. The sword will be helpful in her future missions. And as a member of the royal family, I am allowing her to keep the sword in check for the time being. Will you allow that, Your Majesty? I offer you the Golden card in return for your understanding."

Snap!

Endymion bowed down, snapping his fingers. On his palms, a golden card manifested with a faint hum and began to float with a dim golden hue.

"Ohhhh~"

"Cool…"

As Endymion declared with a serious tone to Elysium, who was pressing his beautiful lips together without saying a word, The twins exclaimed in unison while putting popcorn in their mouths. They looked like they were treating it like some stage play.

"Father, this is foul play." Elysium took a sharp breath, glaring at the Golden card Endymion summoned.

It was a card the size of an ID card. With a unique pattern of the sun in tiny details framing the card, the symbol of the royal family; The six winged golden Arch-dragon wielded the sun instead of the usual galaxy on its extended hand. While the dragon was golden, the sun it held was in the hue of bright orange, like the color of bird's paradise, and looked especially luxurious.

The Golden card.

In the Royal Family, everyone, including the consorts has one of those.

A Royal dragon has the authority to issue these Golden cards to show their favor and sincerity to another person. This card has the power to grant almost anything within the power of the royal that issued the card.

Made of dragon scales as the main ingredient, it has the sturdiness of a dragon defense that would even survive a bomb. And it also helps to give off the exclusive smell an individual dragon emits, making it easier to recognize.

If one shows it to a higher race like a celestial spirit, dwarf, titan or a fairy, they'll immediately gain their trust and support. If they show it to a dragon or a dark elf, they'll instantly get the royal treatment. If they show it to another royal dragon, they'll get the same treatment as a close friend.

However, if you offer it back to the royal who issued it, asking for a favor, you'll get what you want with a very high possibility. But in return, you'll lose the card.

Each card has a different pattern that was exclusive to the position of the royal dragon and a different color exclusive to the color of their unique Mana. For example, Elysium's mana color was bright orange. And as the monarch, he has the sun pattern. And in Kyriaki's case, her pattern is a star, symbolizing the heir to the throne. But since she hadn't gained a unique Mana color yet, she was given the standard golden color.

That was what the meaning of the card on Endymion's hand meant.

"How did you come up with the idea to use the monarch card I gave to you after my coronation in this kind of situation?"

"Haha…if I don't pull this out now, you'll surely take away Dragon Slayer with you." Endymion laughed, it seemed he was experiencing a human body reaction called "Sweating" at the moment.

"I want to rip it up, step on it, whisper to it how it was adopted and then make a potion out of it to travel back in time and throw it at past me's face."

"Wow!"

"Amazing!"

Clap clap clap.

When Elysium replied in a calm voice, Kyriaki couldn't contain her amazement anymore and let out an excited exclamation. Kyrios clapped with all his might, nodding his head adorably.

"But I can't do it, can I? Instead…" His unwavering golden yellow eyes, like those of a black panther aiming for a prey, fixed on Endymion.

With a smug expression, he declared in an authoritative voice;

"For the crime of encouraging dangerous activities to the heir of the throne, from this moment on, Former Dragon King Endymion Fotis Eleftherios is banned from choosing the twin's outfits for two centuries. This is a royal decree."

"Wh-what?!!! That's too much Ellie!!!" When he exclaimed in horror, Elysium looked at him with an expression that said "So what? What are you gonna do?"

It was so ridiculous and childish that it reminded Kyriaki of Kim Shin from the K-drama "Gobxin". When he flicked Ji Eun-tak's hair in an argument, and in return when she asked "Mister, did you just flick my hair?" With wide eyes, Kim Shin's expression was exactly the same as Elysium's right now.

'Wow…what in the K-drama is happening here?' Although she questioned it rationally, she was halfway through the popcorn bucket she summoned with twinkling eyes.

"I'm not done yet," Then Elysium's maniacing gaze landed on Kyrios. The hatchling froze like a statue the moment he made eye contact with his father.

"For the crime of hiding such crucial information, Prince Kyrios will be banned from eating moonberry pies and Elixir lollipops for two decades."

"Noooooooooo!!!!!!" Kyrios fell onto his knees, pulling out his hair. "I can't live without lollipops!!!" His painful screaming as background, Elysium turned to look at the last culprit who was the center player of it all.

Kyriaki leaned back, already horrified of what punishment she'd receive. She got goosebumps as her head went wild imagining all sorts of disadvantaged punishments.

She desperately tried to send a distressed signal to Endymion, but he was still in shock by the ridiculous punishment he was sentenced to.

"And the Crown Princess Kyriaki, for the crime of—wait a minute… Did you level up?! My goodness, you have achieved your first mage circle too!!!" The fierce eyes vanished, replaced by bewilderment. Then in a few seconds, it turned into a father's proud expression.

Kyriaki just blinked.

It was ironic how his smug look vanished like nothing happened.

"What?!" Endymion and Kyrios also joined in to the unbelievable mood change.

'Bloody hell, look at this. Aren't they the dragon version of Fittonia Albivenis plants?'

"Umm…I did it 30 minutes ago?" Contrary to her true thoughts, Kyriaki replied with indifference.

"My sister is awesome!" Kyriaki lifted his clenched fists up in the air and exclaimed like he won a war.

"Ah, I'm so proud….my daughter is a genius." Elysium pulled out a handkerchief from his dimensional pocket and wiped his tears away.

"... genius? As if. At this point she's a monster." Endymion mumbled in a daze. "She'll reach Mythic rank before her third growth pace at this rate. Is this why Thanasios told us to hand over the throne to her at that time?"

"Sniff…you should be rewarded for this record breaking growth." Elysium threw the handkerchief over his shoulder and knelt down in front of the sofa she was sitting on.

"Should we go on a light walk, My dazzling sunshine? And you too, my lovely amber dust."

∆ ∆ ∆

"Umm…Ria. Aren't we supposed to go on a light walk?"

"We are."

"Then why are we here?"

The twins stood before the massive door with a blank look on their faces.

Kyrios, who looked so bright and cheerful 24/7 a day, looked like he was just told his lollipop ban was removed. Not because he hated the moment, but because he was too shocked to even come to his senses.

They were standing in front of the "Monarch's Archives" after all.

"You might be wondering why we have a separate archive when we already have the Royal Archives back in my lair." Elysium showed off his admirable visuals and looked back at the twins with a mesmerizing smile, trusting his chest forward.

"The Royal Archives is the personal treasury of the King, whereas the Monarch's Archives is the treasury of the legitimate monarch, passed down from generation to generation. This is where the treasures of deceased dragons who passed away without handing down their possession to a successor move to. And this is also where every legal cost and maintenance of the Selene Palace and the missions we usually complete comes from."

Indeed, it was that kind of palace.

The former treasuries Kyriaki had seen so far couldn't even come near this one in terms of wealth.

Gold, silver, jewels, books, artworks, rare materials, elixirs…. Everything was there.

The space that seemed to have no end was a place as much as valuable as Akashic records itself.

'Wow, this place probably has the cure for the disease I had in my previous life.' Kyriaki marveled at herself.

'And is that the One…two…three...ten…twenty… hah…there are more than fifty pieces. Isn't that supposed to be extremely rare and invaluable?'

"This is insane." Kyrios muttered right next to her.

"I agree." Kyriaki nodded, returning to her poker face.

They walked past countless neatly organized materials that had occupied the sky-high golden racks. Yes, everything was made of pure gold. It was so blinding Kyriaki had to narrow her eyes from time to time, secretly blaming her overly good dragon vision.

Placing his hands behind, Elysium turned around, the diamonds and jewel chains on his crown jingled as he moved his head.

"Since the two of you are so outstanding, I'll give you an encouragement-gift. How about it? You can choose one weapon technique and a grimoire from here unconditionally."

"Wait unconditionally?! Even if I chose something like [The Sovereign's Rage], you wouldn't mind?" Kyrios looked at Elysium with sparkling golden eyes. They looked so precious the treasures around him appeared like pebbles on the side of the road.

"Ahem, of course." Elysium nodded, his chest sticking out as if he was the monarch of the entire world. Well he was, but anyway.

"But if one wants something personal from the Monarch's Archives, they have to pay a similar price to obtain it." Speaking in a clear voice Kyriaki looked around.

「Oh, you already know the rules!」

"Woah!"

"What in Thanasios' toe are you doing here, Selene! You scared my soft and squishy treasure!"

Selene, like always, appeared right in the middle of the conversation with the brightest smile she could muster, scaring Kyrios like a cautious kitten. It all ended with Elysium's firm scolding.

「Wow, Your Majesty. I'm supposed to be here for the exchange, did you already forget who I am? And don't glare at me like that, Lemonaria, it's creepy」

"I told you not to mess with my brother, I'm seriously considering blackmailing Dad to turn off your >Friendly Mood< right now."

「Oh my how scary, anyway…Your Majesty, you should probably go now. An important guest has arrived」

Elysium narrowed his eyes with a mixture of suspicious and deep thinking when he heard Selene's message.

"...A guest at this hour?"

「Yes, from the Fenghuang Volcanic Belt」

"Ah!" Elysium's eyes immediately turned sharp. "My dear children, I'll be right back. Hmmm…request help from Selene if you must, she's not completely worthless after all." With that statement, a bright orange light enveloped him and he vanished at the speed of light.

'If it's Fenghuang Volcanic Belt, then it must be her.' Kyriaki narrowed her eyes. 'But it's not time for her to appear'

"It's a dimensional shift, right? It's 5th circle space magic." Kyrios stared at the spot where Elysium disappeared with awe.

Elysium usually didn't use much strength or magic in front of the twins. Everything was usually done by someone else, or a magical tool. Thus, his usage of magic was always minimal. But when he used it, he always looked amazing.

If Elysium knew his children looked at him with such eyes when he used magic, he'd have used magic to even lift his spoon at dinner.

Kyriaki shook her head, realizing that fact.

「Alright, we are here!」Selene announced their arrival in an excited tone.

「What attribute are you planning to evolve first, my little twins?」 She asked, glancing at the endless sea of grimoires, neatly categorized into 14 elements.

No, not only 14 elements, grimoires of the 02 demon-exclusive attributes and the 02 angel-exclusive attributes were also there. The dragons must have collected them to restrict their power.

"I'm going with the space attribute, of course!" Kyrios grinned as he ran towards the Space attribute section.

「Aha, just like His Majesty」Selene crossed her arms, watching him browsing through hundreds of space related spell books in minutes using his excellent dragon abilities.

「How about you, little Lemonaria?」

Selene was dutifully carrying out her vow to call Kyriaki by the ridiculous nickname. And her family ignored it since Selene's antics are always like this.

Kyriaki too, refrain from even giving any attention to the nickname.

Attention meant more pranks, and more pranks meant an inconvenient future. Kyriaki hated to waste time that way.

"...I'll just go with the Light attribute."

「That's surprising」 When Kyriaki replied after a moment of hesitation, Selene's eyes widened.

"I hope you'll be surprised by my choices in the future as well." Kyriaki immediately covered her displeasure towards the system as she accepted the reality once again.

Both about her ridiculous nickname and ridiculous situation where she couldn't use any other attribute except for Light.

「Hah…I don't know if you're threatening me or what. Anyway, if you are honing your Light magic, then does that mean your main focus would be on your weapon art?」

Kyriaki glanced at Selene from the corner of her eyes. She knew what this AI had come to a conclusion with. In her eyes, Kyriaki had all elements in her possession. But her choice was to evolve the light attribute, an element that was relatively weak at the start. Any analysis would point at that conclusion. Only Kyriaki knew she had no choice but to do it that way.

"Well, who knows?" And so, she walked towards the Light attribute section, replying to her in a calm and graceful voice.

Selene parted into two, one Selene followed Kyrios while the other followed Kyriaki with cheerful steps.

That was one of her functions.

If there were 1000 people, there would be 1000 Selenes to match them. She was an AI after all.

Kyriaki sighed at the absurd technology of the dragons while studying the titles of grimoires with keen eyes.

'Useless for a dragon with tough scales and the ability to regenerate'

'Dragons have the superior version of this. The ability to detect all living and non-living objects.'

'Useless…useless…useless…Tsk, being a first circle light mage is like being a chicken among hawks.' Kyriaki kicked her tongue softly.

「Why not take ? It'll at least make you less lonely when your missions start」 Selene grinned with a smug expression.

"Why not shut up before I actually blackmail Dad?" Kyriaki nonchalantly dismissed her. Then her eyes caught a thin book with a plain white cover, stuck between two old looking spell books of unknown origin.

'Found it.'

Kyriaki's indifferent gaze shifted, now tinted with sly intent as she picked up the book with elegance.

"I'll take this." She showed it to Selene, although she still had a poker face, her eyes were already shining with scams and wicked plots.

「What?! This?!」When Selene asked with disturbed expression, Kyriaki nodded without wasting her words.

「Are you sure?」 Selene asked once again and got the same reply.

「...I was instructed to give away anything. So I'll just follow that order without questioning the sanity of the future monarch」 She glanced at the grimoire on Kyriaki's tiny hands with a skeptical look, yet still nodded.

One corner of Kyriaki's lips twitched slightly. She glanced at the grimoire with wickedness deep inside her heart.

The golden letters on the book glittered slightly as if responding to her true feelings.

'I'll win fights with foul play'

She followed Selene to the Whip art section with that circling in her mind. And she didn't forget to give a command to her system as she did so.

'System, hide my warrior and mage imprint skills. I don't care if adults get a heart attack from not being able to see my status. I must hide the fact that my Elements are locked.'
