~Some traps are designed to capture enemies.
But the most dangerous ones…
Are designed to reveal the truth.
Tonight—
Ares Valentino and Elara were walking straight into one.
---
Rain fell heavily over the dark industrial district outside the city.
Old warehouses stood like ghosts in the night.
Broken windows.
Rusty gates.
Empty streets.
The place had been abandoned for years.
But tonight—
Lights from black security vehicles cut through the darkness.
Marcus stepped out of the first car, scanning the surroundings.
"Perimeter looks clear."
Luca checked the tablet in his hands.
"No movement detected inside the building."
Ares stepped out of the car calmly.
His black coat moved slightly in the wind.
His eyes were already studying the building.
Tall.
Silent.
Watching.
Elara stepped out beside him.
For a moment she simply stared.
"This place…"
The memories felt distant.
Blurry.
But something about the building felt familiar.
Like a forgotten piece of her past waiting to return.
Marcus approached them.
"We can send the team inside first."
Ares shook his head.
"No."
Marcus frowned.
"Why?"
Ares's voice remained calm.
"Because if this is Volkov's trap…"
"Then he wants us inside."
Elara looked at him.
"You still want to go in?"
Ares met her gaze.
"Yes."
"Why?"
Ares answered quietly.
"Because he also wants something from you."
Silence followed that statement.
Marcus signaled the team.
Four armed security members spread around the building.
"Perimeter secured," one of them reported.
Ares walked toward the entrance.
The old metal door creaked as it opened.
Dust filled the air.
The inside was dark.
Cold.
Empty.
Or at least—
It looked empty.
---
Inside the Warehouse
Their footsteps echoed through the large hall.
Broken machinery sat covered in dust.
Old containers lined the walls.
The place smelled like rust and forgotten memories.
Luca whispered through the comm device.
"Still no signals detected."
Marcus moved carefully.
"Stay alert."
Elara walked slowly behind Ares.
Her eyes moved across the building.
Then she suddenly stopped.
Ares noticed immediately.
"What is it?"
She pointed toward the far wall.
"There used to be stairs there."
Marcus looked.
"There's nothing there now."
But Elara shook her head.
"I remember it."
She walked closer.
Running her fingers across the wall.
Dust fell away.
And suddenly—
Her hand stopped.
"There."
A hidden line in the wall.
Ares stepped forward.
Marcus pushed against the surface.
The wall moved slightly.
A hidden door slowly opened.
Everyone froze.
Behind the door—
A narrow staircase went down into darkness.
Luca's voice came through the comms again.
"That wasn't on any building blueprint."
Ares looked at Elara.
"Your father built this."
Elara whispered.
"I think so."
Marcus checked his weapon.
"Well…"
"This just became interesting."
---
The Hidden Basement
The stairs led deep underground.
Each step echoed through the narrow space.
The deeper they went—
The colder the air became.
Finally they reached the bottom.
A single metal door stood in front of them.
Ares opened it slowly.
Inside—
Was a hidden room.
Clean.
Organized.
Untouched by time.
Files.
Computers.
Documents.
It looked like someone had preserved the room exactly as it was years ago.
Elara walked inside slowly.
Her heart was racing.
"This was my father's secret office…"
Marcus looked around.
"So Daniel Hart was hiding something here."
Luca suddenly spoke through the comm.
"Wait."
"What?"
"I just detected something activating."
Ares's eyes narrowed.
"What do you mean activating?"
Before Luca could answer—
The lights in the room suddenly turned on.
Bright.
Blinding.
Everyone froze.
Then a large screen on the wall flickered to life.
Static filled the display.
And then—
A face appeared.
Marcus whispered immediately.
"Volkov."
The man on the screen smiled slowly.
Calm.
Confident.
Like he had been expecting them.
"Good evening," Volkov said smoothly.
"I was wondering how long it would take."
Ares's expression didn't change.
"You knew we'd come."
Volkov chuckled.
"Of course."
He looked directly at Elara.
"Hello, Elara."
Her chest tightened.
"You killed my father."
Volkov tilted his head slightly.
"Did I?"
Ares stepped forward.
"Stop playing games."
Volkov's smile grew wider.
"Oh, this isn't a game."
He gestured toward the room.
"This place was very important to your father."
Elara whispered.
"Why?"
Volkov leaned closer to the camera.
"Because everything he was hiding…"
"Was meant for you."
Marcus looked around the room again.
"Meaning what?"
Volkov's eyes sparkled with amusement.
"You still don't understand?"
He laughed softly.
"Your father wasn't protecting you from me."
Elara's heart skipped.
"Then who?"
Volkov answered calmly.
"He was protecting the world…"
"From you."
Silence exploded inside the room.
Ares's eyes turned dangerously cold.
"That's impossible."
Volkov simply smiled.
"Oh, Ares."
"You still think you know who she is."
The screen flickered again.
Files suddenly began appearing across the monitors in the room.
Classified documents.
Old experiments.
Secret projects.
Elara stared at the screen in shock.
"What is this…"
Volkov's voice echoed through the speakers.
"Your real story."
"And the reason your father died."
Then the screen went black.
The lights shut off.
Darkness swallowed the room again.
Luca shouted through the comm.
"Systems just crashed!"
Marcus cursed.
"That wasn't a message."
"That was a warning."
Ares looked at Elara.
His expression darker than ever before.
"Volkov wanted us to find this place."
Elara whispered.
"Why?"
Ares answered quietly.
"Because whatever your father was hiding here…"
"Is about to change everything."
----
~Elara's father kept a secret hidden for years.
Volkov just revealed part of it.
But the most terrifying truth is still locked inside the files.
And once Ares opens them—
He may discover the woman he loves…
Is far more dangerous than anyone imagined.
