Chapter 27: He Needs Me

"Let's test it out, then."

Saeko brushed a strand of hair from her forehead with a graceful smile. "Is there anything I should know? What do I do?"

"Nothing special. Just cup the glass and slowly channel your Nen into the water. Just don't push too much aura at once," Suyan explained softly.

"That's it?"

Skeptical, Saeko cupped the glass and slowly fed her aura into the water.

She marveled at whoever invented the Water Divination test. The creator was an absolute genius. Creating such an accessible test using just a glass, water, and a leaf was brilliant.

Her own curiosity burned. What was her category?

Suyan watched unblinking as she channeled her aura.

He was just as curious. A Conjurer, since she'd already materialized a weapon? An Enhancer, given her Kendo mastery? Or something else entirely?

Just as both of them stared at the glass in anticipation...

It reacted!

A visible change occurred inside the water. Several tiny white particles manifested out of thin air. As Saeko continued to channel her Nen, the white particles rapidly multiplied and expanded.

Finally, all the water inside the glass vanished completely. In its place sat a cluster of diamond-shaped white crystals.

The crystallization of the water. This was the absolute defining trait of the Conjuration Type.

"Does this... mean my Nen affinity belongs to the Conjuration Type?" Saeko looked up at Suyan, waiting for his confirmation.

"Mhm." Suyan nodded.

It made sense. Since Saeko had managed to conjure a special weapon on her first try, the odds of her being a natural Conjurer were incredibly high. This result wasn't strange at all.

Hearing the definitive answer from Suyan's mouth, Saeko felt zero disappointment about being a Conjuration Type Nen user. If anything, a wave of intense relief washed over her.

Even though the other Nen categories had their own flashy, highly aggressive characteristics, making Conjuration seem like the weakest link on paper, she didn't care. She believed with absolute certainty that her conjured weapon, Reizan, was the perfect fit for her.

Slaughter?!

Was there anything else in this world capable of making her feel more exhilarated? Except for Suyan, of course...

If the test had revealed she was an Enhancer or an Emitter, she might have actually been given a headache.

Furthermore, remembering that Suyan had also casually conjured objects with his Nen earlier, Saeko immediately asked, "Junior Suyan, you must be a Conjuration Type user too, right? Can you teach me how to advance my Conjuration abilities?"

"Me?" Suyan's expression froze.

If it were any other category—whether it was Gon's Enhancement or Killua's Transmutation, or even the Emission and Manipulation types which weren't as heavily detailed in the anime—he could have smoothly spouted off paragraphs of theoretical training methods.

But Specialization and Conjuration?

He couldn't do it. He genuinely couldn't. Otherwise, he wouldn't have spent over a year training just to barely manage conjuring simple, mundane objects.

Therefore, to avoid leading her astray, Suyan had no choice but to tell her the truth.

"No, I'm not a Conjurer. I'm a Specialization Type Nen user."

"As for teaching you Conjuration abilities? You're asking way too much of me. Even after all my training, I can still only conjure basic items without any special properties."

"When it comes to the path of Conjuration, my progress is actually worse than yours, and you're just a beginner, Senior Saeko," Suyan explained with a bitter smile. "So the most I can do is offer you some general advice as someone who started slightly earlier."

"Is that so?"

Hearing this, Saeko felt a flicker of disappointment. Not because Suyan couldn't teach her, but because they didn't share the same Nen affinity.

However, that disappointment was fleeting, vanishing almost instantly as a thrilling realization struck her.

While Suyan wasn't a Conjurer and couldn't teach her the intricacies of her own type, the reverse was also true. Suyan was actively trying to improve his own Conjuration skills.

If she reached the absolute pinnacle of the Conjuration Type... wouldn't she be able to turn around and teach him?

Did this mean her junior...

Needed her?!

The moment she understood this, an electrifying wave of pure clarity violently struck her soul. Saeko shivered uncontrollably, a euphoric numbness rushing from the crown of her head all the way down to her toes.

Just as planned. Saeko stepped forward. Under Suyan's thoroughly confused gaze, she wrapped her arms around his head and pulled him deeply into her chest, comforting him in a gentle, silken whisper, "It's okay, Junior. Once I've mastered Conjuration, I'll be the one to teach you."

Faced with Saeko's "sudden ambush", Suyan couldn't react in time. One second he was wondering why she was stepping so close, and the next, his vision went entirely black.

As for what she had just whispered? He hadn't heard a single word. His entire world was currently consumed by the soft, overwhelmingly fragrant embrace of Senior Saeko.

It took a good while before Saeko finally released him, restoring his freedom.

Is it over already? Once released, Suyan's head was still spinning. He took a massive gasp of air. Perhaps because the quarters had been a bit too cramped, he was genuinely struggling to catch his breath.

Yet, Suyan desperately wanted to say: I wouldn't mind doing that again.

Saeko inquired, "Can I learn the advanced techniques beyond the Four Major Principles now?"

She hadn't forgotten what Suyan had just said about the other way Nen users grew stronger. If she wanted to be the one to teach Suyan, she first had to become stronger than him—at least in the field of Conjuration.

"No. Whether it's your proficiency with Ten, Zetsu, and Ren, or your total aura reserves, neither is sufficient to support learning new techniques yet." Suyan shook his head. "Building a solid foundation is more important than anything else. All the advanced Nen techniques are simply extensions of the fundamental Four Major Principles."

In gacha game terms, Saeko's situation was a classic case of low account level. She had the SSR character, she had the signature weapon, but she hadn't leveled up enough to unlock the skill tree.

"Then what should I do now?" Saeko pressed.

"Now?" Suyan glanced at the clock ticking on the wall and ruthlessly murdered the conversation with a single sentence: "Now, we need to go to school for class."
