Chapter 26: Let's Test It Out

Unable to figure it out, Suyan simply abandoned the thought.

After all, he was just a filthy weeb before he transmigrated into this world. What the hell did he know about Nen? After awakening as a Specialist, he had been blindly fumbling through his training based entirely on his memories of Gon and Killua.

Without any formal guidance, he was a complete, self-taught amateur. If he posted his training methods online, people would definitely flame him: "Have you ever even been a Nen user? You're just making things up and teaching garbage!"

Suyan used Gyo to focus his aura into his eyes and glanced at Saeko.

Because Saeko wasn't using Zetsu to conceal her aura from him, Suyan easily noticed that her aura reserves had increased significantly compared to yesterday.

No wonder my own Nen violently surged last night, Suyan mused.

He hadn't paid much attention to it at the time, assuming the sudden spike was simply the result of his intense 'activities' with Shizuka the night before. Since his Vow and Limitation acted like a marriage contract, it made perfect sense that physical intimacy would rapidly increase his Nen.

This was exactly why he rarely pushed Shizuka to train. With the massive boost provided by his Vow and Limitation, his aura grew even faster than it would through regular training. Thus, Shizuka was free to comfortably slack off, becoming an absolutely lazy woman.

However, Suyan hadn't expected that more than half of last night's Nen surge had actually come from Saeko.

It seemed conjuring a special weapon truly did grant a Conjurer a massive aura boost.

"Whatever. Let's just test it," Suyan said to Saeko.

"Test what out?" Saeko asked, bewildered.

"I was going to wait until you completely mastered Ten, Zetsu, and Ren before explaining the applications of Hatsu," Suyan explained. "But since you've already developed a Conjuration ability, there's no point in hiding it."

"There are two ways for a Nen user to grow stronger after mastering their aura."

"First, mastering the advanced applications of the Four Major Principles. For example, Shu is the advanced application of Ten, In for Zetsu, and Gyo for Ren."

"Second, discovering their natural Nen affinity. From there, they focus on that category to develop their own unique techniques."

As he spoke, Suyan conjured a piece of paper and a pen. He quickly drew a regular hexagon, writing the name of a Nen category at each point.

Enhancement, Transmutation, Conjuration, Specialization, Manipulation, Emission.

"Enhancers use aura to maximize the physical limits of their bodies or their weapons."

"Transmuters can freely alter the properties of their aura, like turning it into electricity or making it sticky and elastic like chewing gum."

"Conjurers can materialize incredible weapons or items from their aura, just like your Reizan."

"Specialization is the exception. Any ability that doesn't fit into the other five categories falls here."

"Manipulators use aura to control living or non-living things, similar to telekinesis."

"Emitters can detach their aura from their bodies, maintaining its power for extended periods over long distances."

Suyan tapped the six categories on the paper as he concluded his explanation.

"So, I must be a Conjurer?" Saeko nodded.

It was a perfectly logical assumption. After all, she had already developed a special weapon, the typical hallmark of a Conjurer. Making it easy to conclude she belonged to that category.

Suyan shook his head. "Not necessarily. You can still develop abilities outside your natural affinity. However, your success rate and overall power will never match a natural user's."

"Then how do I find out my affinity?" Saeko asked, her curiosity piqued.

"That's exactly why we need to test it," Suyan said with a knowing smile. "First is the personality test, created by a highly experienced Nen user based on his past opponents."

"Enhancers are simple-minded and stubborn."

"Transmuters are fickle and prone to deceit."

"Manipulators are argumentative and march to the beat of their own drum."

"Emitters are impatient and careless."

"Specialists are individualistic and possess natural charisma."

"Conjurers are high-strung and neurotic."

"This is just a baseline, though. I wouldn't recommend taking it as absolute fact," Suyan clarified. "If anything, it'd be far stranger if a person never changed as they grew."

Take Zheng Zha from Infinite Horror, for example. Who could have predicted the clever, hot-blooded kid would devolve into a total meathead roaring, "I'm going to punch you into two little meat patties!"?

Shaking the absurd thought away, Suyan continued, "While judging by personality isn't entirely accurate, it's a useful tool to guess your opponent's affinity and gain the upper hand. Your opponent isn't going to politely announce their Nen category, after all."

"To precisely determine your affinity, we use the Water Divination test."

"Wait here a second."

Suyan returned from the kitchen with a glass full of water. He then plucked a single leaf from a potted plant on the balcony and carefully placed it on the surface of the water.

Setting it down, Suyan took his seat. "The test is simple. You just float a leaf on a full glass of water."

"Then, you project your aura into the water. The reaction determines your attribute."

"Enhancers make the water overflow. Transmuters change its taste. Emitters change its color. Manipulators move the leaf. Conjurers create crystals in the water."

"Specialists? The leaf might burn or rot. Basically, anything goes."

Suyan chuckled. "So, Senior Saeko, do you want to know which Nen category you belong to? Let's test it out."
