Chapter 28 - Episode 28: The Man Behind the Door

The TechWave elevator moved slowly.

Too slowly.

Daevyd stood inside with his hands in his pockets, staring at the glowing floor numbers above the door.

12.

13.

14.

His reflection in the elevator mirror looked calm, but inside his chest something heavy had settled.

The name on the screen in the server room still echoed in his mind.

He had trusted that person.

More than almost anyone in the company.

The elevator dinged softly.

Floor 16.

The doors opened.

This was the executive level.

Quiet.

Glass offices lined the hallway.

Employees walked by with tablets and laptops, unaware that something inside the building had already cracked.

Daevyd stepped out and walked down the corridor.

His destination was the last office.

The door with the frosted glass.

The one belonging to Adrian Cole.

Adrian was TechWave's Chief Technology Officer.

The man who had helped build the company's entire system architecture.

The man who had been with Daevyd from the beginning.

Daevyd stopped outside the office door.

Then pushed it open.

Adrian looked up from his desk.

He was in his mid-thirties, sharp dressed, calm eyes behind thin glasses.

"Daevyd."

His tone sounded genuinely surprised.

"I thought the board suspended you."

"They did."

Adrian leaned back in his chair.

"Then this visit must be important."

Daevyd closed the door behind him.

"It is."

He walked forward slowly.

Adrian studied him carefully.

"You look like someone who found something he wasn't supposed to."

Daevyd placed his phone on the desk.

The security log glowed on the screen.

Adrian glanced down.

Then back up.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Finally Adrian sighed.

"So you found it."

Daevyd's voice was quiet.

"Why?"

Adrian leaned back again.

"Because Tunde pays better."

The answer came so easily that it almost felt unreal.

Daevyd stared at him.

"You sold the company."

"I sold information."

"You sabotaged Shemmy."

Adrian shrugged.

"Collateral damage."

The calmness in his voice made Daevyd's jaw tighten.

"You helped steal her designs."

"Yes."

"You accessed her studio cameras."

"Yes."

"You framed Ruth."

Adrian smiled slightly.

"That was a nice touch, wasn't it?"

Daevyd stepped closer to the desk.

"You've been working with Tunde the whole time."

Adrian folded his hands.

"Not the whole time."

"When?"

Adrian's eyes glittered.

"Since the moment TechWave started becoming bigger than you."

Daevyd's expression hardened.

"You betrayed me."

Adrian shook his head slowly.

"No."

"I evolved."

He leaned forward slightly.

"You built a great company, Daevyd. But you were always too emotional."

"Too loyal."

"You trusted people."

"And in business that's a weakness."

Daevyd's voice dropped.

"You sold out your own company."

Adrian smiled.

"I invested in the future."

Suddenly the office door opened.

Two security guards stepped inside.

Adrian had already pressed the alarm under his desk.

"Mr. Kng is no longer authorized to be on this floor," Adrian said calmly.

"Escort him out."

The guards moved toward Daevyd.

Daevyd didn't resist.

But before leaving, he looked back at Adrian.

"This isn't over."

Adrian tilted his head.

"Oh it is."

"You already lost your company."

"You lost your board."

"You lost your reputation."

He smiled slowly.

"And soon you'll lose Shemmy too."

The guards escorted Daevyd out of the office.

But Adrian's smile faded the moment the door closed.

Because his phone buzzed.

A message from Tunde appeared.

"Why is Daevyd still breathing?"

Adrian frowned slightly.

He typed back.

"Relax. He's finished."

Three seconds later another message appeared.

"You misunderstand."

Then the final text came.

"Phase three begins tonight."

Across the city, Shemmy and Ruth sat in the apartment staring at the studio footage.

Shemmy replayed the video again.

The hood slipped.

The face became clearer.

And now there was no doubt.

"That's him," Ruth whispered.

Shemmy nodded slowly.

"Yes."

Her phone rang.

Daevyd.

She answered immediately.

"Tell me you found something."

Daevyd's voice was calm.

"I found the spy."

"Who is it?"

"Adrian."

Shemmy's stomach dropped.

"The CTO?"

"Yes."

Ruth leaned forward.

"That means Tunde had access to TechWave's systems."

"Exactly," Daevyd said.

"But that's not the worst part."

"What do you mean?"

Daevyd took a breath.

"Adrian just triggered the next phase of Tunde's plan."

Silence filled the room.

Then Shemmy asked the question quietly.

"What next phase?"

Across Lagos Island, inside the TechWave server room, every monitor suddenly went black.

Then red warning text appeared across the screens.

SYSTEM BREACH DETECTED

Files began deleting rapidly.

User data.

Company code.

Everything.

Within seconds the emergency alarms started screaming.

Inside his office, Adrian stared at the alerts in shock.

Because he hadn't triggered this.

He grabbed his phone and called Tunde.

"What did you do?"

Tunde's voice came through calmly.

"I told you."

"Phase three."

"You didn't say you were destroying TechWave."

"I'm not."

A pause.

Then Tunde said quietly,

"I'm destroying Daevyd."

Adrian's face went pale.

Because the system breach had already started spreading.

And within minutes…

TechWave's entire platform would collapse.
