Chapter 65 - Flames From The All-Mother

Just when he was a few paces from the blonde haired man, he threw one of his two daggers, aiming for Ramius's right eye.

'He'll either duck or move to the side to avoid losing his sight. And that is when my window of opportunity would present itself.' Dargo thought as he dashed forward with enthusiasm.

With bored movements, Ramius caught the dagger with his right hand instead, stabbing it into the spot between his neck and shoulder.

Dargo had no time to react, in one fluid motion, the blonde haired man caught the dagger and lunged forward, catching him off guard.

Now, in a last desperate attempt to take Ramius down with him, Dargo grabbed onto the hand that stabbed him, yelling in the process.

"He can't move, now's your chance." On his signal, Moseah and Kromel both attacked, coming from both sides.

"I can't move, you say." With his right hand being held by Dargo, he drew the sword at his belt with his left, servering the head of the Thornsleeper halfway in a simple arc.

Every eye bore witness to the grotesque sight of the cartilages and bones now hanging open. The blood that was supposed to flow from the heart to the brain and the blood that was supposed to return from the brain to the heart all gushed out in fury.

Dargo's head slumped backwards, letting go off the blonde haired man's arm as he fell to the ground in a dull thud.

Ignoring the gore, the two men lunged from the sides aiming at vital parts as they targeted Ramius.

Ramius ducked, evading the double stab attack from Moseah while blocking the incoming blow aimed at his ribs from his other side.

With the two Thornsleepers now preparing for a counter attack, Ramius had long since planned his. He slammed the hilt of his sword into the forehead of Kromel, forcing the man to stumble backwards as thick red line oozed into his left eye.

'He'll use his loss of balance to deliver a decisive blow, and that would be his last mistake.' Moseah thought as he observed how Ramius charged towards the stumbling Kromel.

He dashed forwards, following closely behind Ramius, however, it wasn't Kromel the blonde haired man attacked.

Just after he had slammed the hilt of his sword into the forehead of Kromel, he feint attacking him again, baiting Moseah. When he suddenly spun around to attack, the Thornsleeper behind him could not react in time.

Ramius stabbed his long sword into the chest area, plunging the sword straight into his heart, forcing the man to the ground in the process.

'In just a few moments, he took out two of them. He really lives up to his name.' Zilel watched the man in admiration, his hope rising.

"Did they think they could take him down when they needed a sneak attack to beat me.' Migard whispered, staring at Ramius stab Moseah's heart multiple times.

All this while, the caster only watched but never joined in.

Using the moment of distraction, Kromel threw the last paralysis pill he had, aiming for the back of Ramius's head. The pill connected and exploded into a cloud of dust.

'Looks like the situation isn't entirely hopeless after all. I hired a maid to poison him, but looking at him now, it would appear she failed. Now that he has inhaled the dust of the pill, all I need to do is take my time in severing his head while I wait for Dargo and Moseah to recover. We are Thornsleepers and without the interference of a protector, we will not die easily. They should be getting up right about now.' Kromel had a smug grin on his face as he eased the tension in his shoulders.

Cough, cough. Ramius interrupted his thoughts as he coughed violently, walking away from the dust caused by the pill.

"Seriously, what's with you Thornsleepers and poison. Did you want me to go blind by spraying dust in my eyes?" Ramius cursed as he stumbled away in fury.

"What is happening? Dargo, Moseah, quick, we may not be able able to beat him, but we can at least escape." Kromel shouted as he turned to run when he noticed the pill had no effect on the blonde haired man.

However, something felt off.

"Why are you calling on the dead?" Ramius asked, stabilizing his stance.

'The pill has no effect on him, but how? And what does he mean by dead?' It was only then that Kromel observed and noticed that his companions were showing no signs of getting up.

"They say Thornsleepers can only be harmed by a protector. Well, that's only true for the rest of the world. With the power the All-mother has given me, there is no one I wanted dead who had lived. Do you now understand why your companion never joined you in attacking me?" Ramius's gaze shifted to the caster as he spoke.

"Did you betray us?" Kromel was overwhelmed by a number of emotion as he asked the caster, unable to react to the sword that buried itself in his throat.

Blood oozed from his nose and eyes as he knelt to the ground.

Ramius pulled out the weapon, turning to face the caster.

"I suppose you chose the first choice?"

"I did." The caster replied. 'Idiots, did you even know the person you tried to fight? I wonder what faces you'll make when you realize he wasn't even taking you seriously. He never used the rumored cursed tongue after all.' The caster observed his companions in their own pools of blood.

"Give me the cure."

"The cure to the paralysis pill, I can give. As for the black liquid the Protector was fed, I'm afraid it has no cure. He has about a day left until the pill takes effect." Hearing those words, Aeloria turned her gaze to Ramius pleadingly.

"And the flames, they'll burn until the Cannibal dies. She can resist for only so long." The caster said with detached interest as he observed the Protector, then Aeloria.

Ramius slid his blood stained sword back into its sheat. He then took gentle steps towards Aeloria.

Looking down at the Maiden, he knelt and placed both hands on her burning flesh.

"Nökhrin flämä œrä Väl-Morîth,

("Dark flames from the All-mother.

The fire that burns fire.

In fear all other flames shall cower.

The fire that burns without pyre.

Engulf her and swallow the hell flame,

Grand eternal devourer, let them know your name.

Primal Genesis: Mother Gluttony of flames.")
