Chapter 73 - The Big Eater

Konoha Council Chamber

Hashirama sat in the main seat.

Tobirama, Minato, and Hiruzen were seated nearby.

Koharu Utatane, Homura MitoGato, Jiraiya, the various clan heads, and a number of jōnin filled the remaining seats.

Once most had arrived, Tobirama got straight to the point and announced the upcoming Five Kage Summit.

A few days earlier, Onoki and the other Kage had each sent letters requesting a summit.

Tobirama immediately selected KonohagaShiranui Kūre (Hidden Leaf Village) as the venue.

The other four Kage agreed without hesitation.

After all—the God of Shinobi was here. Who would dare insist Hashirama travel elsewhere?

Moreover, Hashirama needed to remain in Konoha in case of an attack on Nagi.

Although it was called a Five Kage Summit, smaller nations and villages had also caught wind of it. Many sent letters requesting permission to visit Konoha.

Tobirama's reply was firm:

Visits were permitted—but certain areas were strictly off-limits. Specifically, the vicinity of his disciple's residence and the Uchiha Clan Compound.

All visitors would undergo strict identity verification and remain under supervision. Otherwise, their requests would be denied outright.

Tobirama outlined the summit protocols and assigned responsibilities.

Hashirama simply nodded along.

Before the meeting, Tobirama had warned him:

"Whatever I say, do not contradict me. If you have objections, keep them to yourself and tell me afterward."

Thus, the Five Kage Summit was scheduled for the following week.

That Night — Naruto's Apartment

Minato was in the kitchen cooking.

Nagi, Sasuke, and Naruto sat in the living room.

Mostly, Nagi was explaining his insights on Yin–Yang Release to Naruto and Sasuke.

Sasuke listened attentively, occasionally asking questions.

Naruto nodded along… though he clearly understood none of it.

After a while, Nagi sighed and gave Sasuke a brief summary, then shifted the topic to the Rasengan.

Naruto immediately perked up.

"Now that's something I get!"

He began enthusiastically sharing his "training insights."

Nagi and Sasuke broke into cold sweats.

In the end, they asked Naruto to write down what he remembered from his future training.

Naruto pulled out paper and pen and began scribbling rapidly.

"I don't know why, but I always feel like I spent a lot of time writing this stuff…"

He muttered as he wrote.

Nagi and Sasuke leaned in to see.

Sasuke turned away immediately.

"Idiotic."

Nagi smacked Naruto on the head with a chop.

"Ow!"

"Naruto! What nonsense are you thinking about?! If Aunt Shiranui Kūshina sees that, you're dead!"

"Huh? What did I write?"

Naruto looked down—and instantly turned bright red.

"Hmph! This is definitely Pervy Sage's fault! Yep, totally his fault!"

At that moment, Minato entered carrying a pot of soup.

"Something happen?"

"Nothing happened!" ×3

All three shook their heads vigorously.

"Alright then. Dinner's almost ready."

"Thank you." ×2

Sasuke and Nagi responded politely.

Minato smiled.

"No need to be so formal. Treat this place like your home.

Naruto, you should learn some manners from Nagi and Sasuke."

Naruto puffed his cheeks.

Learning from Nagi was fine.

But Sasuke? Hmph.

Three Days Later — Hyūga Clan Compound

Minato, Naruto, and Nagi sat opposite Hiashi, Hinata, and Hanabi.

Minato had brought Naruto to formally visit.

Nagi, meanwhile, had been invited by Hiashi to discuss Hinata's condition.

It all began the day the Heavenly Screen disappeared.

Hiashi had told Hinata she could eat freely from then on.

Though shy, her hands moved astonishingly fast.

Bowl after bowl vanished.

Hyūga Natsu cooked pot after pot.

By the time Hinata felt satisfied, stacks of empty bowls towered on the table.

"…!?"

"B-Big Sister… that's amazing…"

Hanabi stared blankly.

Hiashi's eyelids twitched.

Is this about not eating enough… or about surviving starvation?

Hinata hurriedly explained:

"F-Father… I just haven't eaten this much in a long time. I got carried away…"

Silence.

Do you expect me to believe that?

Seeing the disbelief, Hinata blushed furiously—then fainted on the spot.

A few days later, the Hyūga father and daughters happened to "run into" Choza and Choji at IchiraShiranui Kū Ramen.

Choza invited Hinata to participate in IchiraShiranui Kū's eating contest.

Hinata initially refused due to the crowd.

But when she saw Naruto participating, she agreed.

Teuchi rolled up his sleeves.

"Let me see what you've got!"

Bowls of ramen were served.

Naruto and Choji devoured theirs lightning-fast.

Choza laughed.

"Slow down! If you rush, it'll backfire. Look at Hin—"

Hinata ate politely, in small bites.

Yet her bowl emptied at an alarming speed.

"…A master."

Choza's competitive spirit ignited.

Hours later—

Naruto and Choji slumped over the counter, faces pale. They wisely withdrew.

Choza had already been carried away by medics, muttering:

"I'm old… my era is over…"

Hinata remained calm. She didn't even look full.

Final tally:

Naruto: 25 bowls

Choji: 32 bowls

Choza: 41 bowls

Hinata: 50 bowls

Back to the Present

Having witnessed this firsthand, Hiashi had no choice but to believe Nagi's words.

After taking a sip of tea, Nagi said:

"The malnourishment in her childhood wasted a great deal of her talent. I believe you understand that."

Hiashi nodded.

"What should Hinata do going forward?"

Nagi rotated his teacup thoughtfully.

"What you truly wish to ask… is how to silence the clan elders."

Hiashi was unsurprised.

He placed a hand gently on Hinata's head—his expression no longer cold.

"I failed as a father. I didn't even know my daughter was going hungry.

My greatest wish is simply for Neji, Hinata, and Hanabi to grow up healthy.

But…"

"But the Caged Bird Seal, the Main House–Branch House system, and the elders' expectations have weighed on you all these years.

Being a father in that position isn't easy."
