Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Bath and Secrets

The bathroom was spacious and elegantly appointed, with a large sunken tub big enough to accommodate three people comfortably. Eleanor had prepared the water perfectly — warm but not scalding, with a light scent of lavender that was soothing rather than overpowering. Steam rose gently from the surface, creating a hazy, intimate atmosphere.

Kael stepped into the tub first, sinking into the warm water with a sigh of satisfaction. Sera and Eleanor followed him, settling on either side as he spread his arms along the tub's edge. Both women leaned into him, their bodies relaxing against his as the heat soaked into their muscles and began to ease the lingering fatigue from their earlier activities.

"This is wonderful," Eleanor murmured, closing her eyes as she rested her head against Kael's shoulder. "I don't think I've ever felt this relaxed."

Sera nodded in agreement, her body melting against his other side. The warm water felt incredible against her skin, soothing the lingering sensitivity from being penetrated anally, while Kael's solid presence provided a sense of security and comfort. It was strange, feeling so at ease with a man who had dominated her so thoroughly only an hour ago, but somehow it felt right.

Her eyes wandered over Kael's body as they rested together in the water. She'd seen him naked before, of course, during their sexual encounters, but this was the first time she had the opportunity to really study him without the urgency of passion demanding her attention.

What she saw surprised her. Kael's body was incredibly well-defined — his muscles were lean and corded, clearly built through years of rigorous physical training rather than the bulk of a bodybuilder. But what caught her attention most were the scars that marked his skin.

There were dozens of them, ranging from small, faded white lines to larger, more prominent ridges of tissue. Some were clearly from blade wounds — sword or dagger cuts that had healed over time. Others looked like burn marks, or the remnants of claw wounds from some beast. They covered his arms, his chest, even his back, a map of battles fought and survived.

"You have so many scars," Sera said softly, her fingers tracing one particularly prominent line that ran diagonally across his left pectoral. "It's not something you see on ordinary commoners. Even knights, who train for combat regularly, don't have this many battle scars."

Kael looked down at her hand on his chest, then at the network of old wounds that covered his body. "That's because I wasn't a knight. I was an adventurer."

Both women perked up at this revelation, their interest piqued.

"An adventurer?" Eleanor repeated, her eyes wide with curiosity. "You mean you traveled the kingdom, completed quests, fought monsters for a living?"

"For nearly a decade," Kael confirmed. "I started young, worked my way up from the lowest ranks to A-rank before I finally decided to take a break."

"That's incredible," Sera said, genuine admiration in her voice. "A-rank adventurers are rare, even among the most skilled fighters. You must have seen and done things most people can barely imagine."

She hesitated, then asked the question that had been bothering her since their first encounter. "But if you're such an accomplished adventurer, why become a janitor? It seems like such a… well, such a step down from what you could be doing."

Kael shrugged slightly in the water. "I needed a break from the constant danger, the endless cycle of fight or be killed. Adventuring takes a toll after a while, both physically and mentally. I wanted something quieter, more routine."

He paused, then continued, "The academy actually offered me a position as a combat instructor originally. Elara recommended me, and since I'm an alumni of the school, it seemed like a natural fit. But the noble faculty members blocked the appointment."

"They blocked you?" Eleanor asked, her brow furrowing in confusion. "Why would they do that? With your experience, you'd be perfect for teaching combat magic."

"Because of my background," Kael explained calmly. "I'm a commoner, and a former adventurer to boot. The noble teachers felt that someone of my social standing wasn't suitable for instructing students from noble families. They preferred someone with more… appropriate credentials."

Sera's expression darkened, her annoyance clear. "That's ridiculous. Combat instruction should be based on skill and experience, not on whether someone's parents have titles. Those arrogant nobles…" She shook her head, her lip curling slightly. "They never cease to amaze me with their prejudice."

She looked at Kael with sympathy. "I'm sorry you had to deal with that. You deserved better."

"It's not something I'm going to lose sleep over," Kael assured her. "I don't plan to stay at the academy forever anyway. The janitor position suits my current needs, and it gives me time to pursue other interests."

He shifted slightly in the water, changing the subject. "Which brings me to what I wanted to ask you. I need information about the student council president's closest followers — specifically, the ones who are always around him."

"The president's inner circle," Sera said immediately. "I can tell you about them. There are three who are always with him — Cedric, Marcus, and Adrian. Cedric is the one who typically acts as his second-in-command during council meetings. Why do you want to know about them?"

Kael focused on her, his expression serious. "It's the one named Cedric that I'm interested in. Can you tell me anything more about him?"

Sera thought for a moment, then shook her head. "Not much, I'm afraid. He's from a minor noble family — House Vane, I believe. He's been the president's closest friend since their first year at the academy. Quiet, dutiful, always doing whatever the president asks. Why the interest in him specifically?"

Kael considered how much to reveal, then decided that if he was going to trust these women with his body, he could trust them with this information at least.

"The tracking magic I placed on the recording devices I found in the student council chamber led me to him," Kael explained. "Whatever those devices are being used for, Cedric is somehow connected to it. He's carrying traces of the tracking spells, which means he's been in direct contact with the devices themselves."

Sera nodded slowly, following his logic. "That makes sense. If anyone is handling equipment for the president, it would be Cedric."

"But there's more," Kael continued, his voice dropping lower. "When I was observing him, when I focused my magical senses on him, I detected something unusual. Something dark."

He leaned forward slightly, his voice serious. "Beneath the normal magical signature of a student, beneath the trace of the tracking spell, I sensed dark magic — and not just any dark magic. Magic that carries the distinctive taint of demonic influence."

Both women stared at him in surprise, the water rippling around them as they shifted.

"Demonic magic?" Eleanor repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. "Are you certain?"

"Completely certain," Kael said. "I've fought demons before, battled creatures from other realms. I know what their magic feels like, how it differs from human magic. What I sensed from Cedric was unmistakably demonic in origin."

Sera absorbed this information, her mind racing with implications. "But that's… that's almost unheard of. Demons are rare in this part of the world, and demonic influence on a human is even rarer. How could a student have demonic magic?"

"I don't know yet," Kael admitted. "That's what I need to find out. But I do know that Cedric is connected to it somehow, and that makes him a person of interest."

Sera's brow furrowed as she considered this, then she looked at Kael with sudden realization. "Wait — the tracking magic you mentioned. You can track people through magic?"

"I can place tracking spells that attach to objects or people, and follow their magical signature," Kael confirmed. "It's a useful skill for an adventurer, especially when hunting targets that try to hide."

"So you've been using that to investigate the recording devices," Sera said. "Following where they've been, who's had contact with them."

"Precisely," Kael nodded. "And it led me to Cedric."

Sera considered this for a moment, then another question occurred to her. "But you said you sensed demonic magic in him. Are you sure that's what it was? Could it have been something else mistaken for demonic influence?"

Kael's expression was solemn. "I'm certain. I've fought enough demons in my time to recognize their magic without hesitation. The sensation is distinct — a cold, oily feeling that clings to the senses, unlike anything produced by human mages. What I sensed from Cedric matched that exactly."

He paused, then continued, "Demonic encounters are rare, but they do happen. The most recent expedition to the demon lands failed catastrophically — you know about that, don't you?"

"Of course," Sera said immediately. "The entire adventuring party was wiped out, except for a few survivors who made it back with horrifying tales. The official story was that they were overwhelmed by demon forces, but there were rumors of… something else. Something darker."

Her eyes met Kael's. "Do you think there's a connection between that failed expedition and whatever is happening with Cedric?"

"It's possible," Kael allowed. "Demons don't just appear in the kingdom without reason. If Cedric has demonic influence, there must be a source — someone or something that's transmitting that influence to him."

He looked at both women, his expression serious. "But this information needs to stay between us. I don't want word getting out that I'm investigating Cedric, or that demonic magic is involved. If there's something dangerous operating within the academy, I need to understand it before making a move."

Eleanor nodded vigorously, her hand gripping Kael's arm beneath the water. "We won't say a word, Master. Your secrets are safe with us."

"Absolutely," Sera agreed, her voice firm. "I won't breathe a word to anyone. If there's something dangerous happening in the council, if the president or his followers are involved in something they shouldn't be, I want to help you expose it."

She looked at Kael with determination. "Whatever you need, Master. Information, access, influence — I'll do whatever I can to assist you."

Kael studied her, appreciating her willingness to help. "For now, just keep your eyes open. If you notice anything unusual about Cedric or the president's activities, let me know. Small details might seem insignificant on their own, but they could add up to something important."

"I will," Sera promised.

Eleanor spoke up, her tone practical. "Perhaps we should finish our bath and get dressed. The water is starting to cool, and we don't want anyone wondering why we've been in here so long."

Both women moved to stand, water cascading from their bodies as they rose from the tub. Kael followed, stepping out onto the tiled floor as Eleanor reached for large, plush towels to dry them off.

The intimate atmosphere of the bathroom lingered even as they began the process of drying and dressing. Their conversation had shifted from pleasure and fantasy to serious matters, but the connection between them remained strong. Kael felt more comfortable sharing information with these two women than he had with anyone else in a long time.

Whatever came next — the investigation into Cedric, the mystery of the demonic influence, the dangerous undercurrents within the academy — he knew he wouldn't be facing it alone anymore.
