"Miss Feller, how did you even get in here?" I asked, biting my tongue to hold back a sharper retort.
"Money. That's how." Putting the sunglasses on again, she looked straight ahead, seemingly uninterested in me. "I didn't think I would meet you at the elevator."
"That makes two of us." I sighed, my voice trailing off as I looked away awkwardly.
"Tell me, is what you have with him real?" Suddenly, she asked the question out of nowhere, her eyes searching mine for a crack in the facade.
"Pardon?" I blinked, caught off guard by the bluntness of her inquiry.
"Tell me."
"It is." I lied. My voice was steady, but my heart gave a guilty thud against my ribs. It wasn't because of the favour this time. It was more because it seemed like she needed to hear that answer—I don't know why, but a strange sense of pity washed over me as I watched her expression crumble.
