The first rows of my horde reached the convoy before the zombie finished pulling itself out from beneath the truck.
Three bodies fell on it at once, clawing through its back and shoulders as they dragged it onto the road. Red light flashed beneath its skin, followed by enough heat that all three zombies burst into flames.
Well, that explained the core.
The burning zombies continued attacking.
I had to admit, not caring whether they survived made them incredibly committed employees.
More bodies crawled out from beneath the vehicles. Some wore pieces of military uniforms, while others had been stripped down to skin darkened by years underground.
They hadn't wandered here.
The Devourer had left them beneath the convoy to wait for anything approaching downtown.
The bite in my leg pulled hard enough to make me step forward, and every zombie crawling into the road turned toward me.
"Of course," I muttered as Yuche moved in front of me. "Why would today stop being about me?"
